I have an 87% in my class, In order to not take the final i need an 89%. I recently took a test and received a 93%, why did my grade only go up one point (88%)?

Roger: That’s just how the world works (lots of hard work, tiny reward). Sorry. ☹

I am currently making a 78 in my philosophy class. I have a paper due which is 20% of my grade, though I also have a few more assignments and major paper and final which is worth 20% left. How many points will count against me if I do not finish the paper on time?

Roger: Well, you’d lose 20% of your grade. If your current “78%” consists of 60% of your grade, then your grade would decrease to a 58.5%. (I assumed that your 78% consisted of 60% of your grade, because the remaining 40% is made up of a 20% paper and a 20% paper.)

I have a 72 overall right now I have 3 more quizzes that weight 15% each and a final worth 25 I have to have an 80 to pass what do I need to get on the quizzes

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 83.4% on the remaining 3 quizzes and final exam to get a 80% overall. If you want to get an 80% overall with just the quizzes (so you’ll have an 80% before the final exam), then you’ll need to average at least a 85.3% on them.

I have one more test for math and the final. I have a 64 in the class and need a 70. Tests are 17.5% each and the final is 27.5%. What do I need to get on both to get a 70?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 77.3% on the last test and the final to get a 70% overall.

If right now I have a current grade of a 88% and my final exam I make an A and end up with an A in the class. If I have to take the final exam what do I need to make to keep my A.

Roger: It depends on how much your final exam is worth.

Roger,i have a 85 in my science and i got a 0/55 on an assignment thats not weighted, what will my grade go down to?

Roger: It depends on how many points you have total. Your current grade is an 85%, but is that an 85/100 or an 850/1000 or something else?

If I have a 66% in my anatomy and I got a 0 on an exam weighing 30% what is my grade for that class?

Test 1 - 65
Test 2- 68
Test 3 - 65

Roger: How much are each one of your tests worth? They can’t all be 30% (they would add up to 120% in that case). Did you mean that you have a test category that’s altogether worth 30%? Or is each test individually worth 30%?

My APUSH (AP US History) teacher has not entered in a grade in the writing section this entire half. Therefore, the DBQ I am writing tomorrow will count for 40% of my grade. The teacher is giving us the recommended time to write a DBQ in according to the college board, 55 minutes. She openly admits that this is not enough time to write a DBQ. With a 97% in the class right now, I need to get at least a 78% on the DBQ just to keep an A. Plus, the teacher only said the topic was from the second semester. This extends from 1876-1960 and encompasses the West, the New South, the Gilded Age, Progressive Era/WW1, the Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, WW2, and the beginning of the Cold War. In summary, I am required to get an 80% on an on demand essay with document analysis which I'm guaranteed not to finish on a mystery topic from a huge time span. I am screwed.

Hey Roger, I have a 69 percent in my math class. I need a 70 to pass the class and my final is worth 25% of my grade. However, I have two weeks left of class and homework is worth 15% and quizzes are worth 10%. I usually get 18/20 on the homework, and a 4/6 on the quizzes. If I have 3 more homeworks and quizzes left what do I need on those to get a 70% before the final even happens?

Roger: Well, it depends on how many homeworks and quizzes you’ve had so far. If we assume you’ve done 10 homework assignments and 10 quizzes, and you have 3 homeworks and 3 more quizzes, then you’ll need to average at least a 93.7% on the remaining 3 homeworks and 3 quizzes in order to raise your grade to a 70% before the final exam. (I assumed that your current homework average is a 90% and your current quiz average is a 66.7%, based on the numbers you provided.)

I got a 63% on my first midterm then I got a 69% on my second midterm (both worth 20%) and on my lab I have a 79% (worth 32%) and extra credit assignment (worth 1%) .... How much do I have thus far and how much would I need on my final (worth 28%) to get a 60% overall

Roger: Your current grade is a 73.2%. In order to get a 60% overall, you’ll need to get at least a 26.1% on the final. (Or, if you get at least a 61.9% on the final, you can get a 70% overall.)

Hi, I got a 74 on my first exam and a 67.5 on my second. There are three exams total in the semester (the 3rd is the Final). Exams are worth 75%, 15% are for a paper, and 10% is participation/attendance.

What would be my current grade and how would I have to do on my final exam and paper to end with a 80% in the class? (participation is about an 80)

Thanks so much!

Roger: Your current grade is a 72.3%. To get an 80% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 104.6% on the final exam and the paper. (I’m assuming that each one of your 3 exams is worth the same percentage of your grade.)

If I failed at quiz worth 5% of my grade, how badly would that hurt my grade?

Roger: It depends on what your current grade is. For example, if your current grade were 100%, then the quiz would bring your grade down to a 95% (assuming that the quiz is the last thing that goes into your grade). On the other hand, if your current grade is a 0%, then the quiz would not change your grade at all, because your grade would remain a 0%. So, depending on what your current grade is, the quiz will lower your grade by anywhere from 0% to 5%.

hey I have a 218.50 out of 466 I already did the final worth 25% I need a 50 to pass do I still have a chance to pass the course.

In my first semester, I did abysmally due to a family issue that really preoccupied me. With a semester 1 grade of a sorry 55%, (normally a 90-100% student) I fear I might fail my class. In semester 2, I don't think that I'll miss another assignment again, but am I too late? How can I tell if it will be possible to pass after the second semester? Sorry for this vague setup.

Roger: It depends on what overall percentage you need to pass. Is it a 60%? A 70%? If you get a 95% on your second semester, then your overall grade for the year would be a 75%, assuming that each semester is worth half of your overall grade.

Okay so I have a 78% currently in World History and I took a test that is 35% of my grade and I got a C- 14/20 what would my current grade be? Because I'm scared :(

Roger: Are there any remaining assignments in your grade? I’ll assume that there aren’t (so, that test would be the last thing that goes into your grade). If so, then your grade would go down to a 75.2%.

Currently I have a 3.71 GPA. I want to maintain a 3.7 and we are on a semester schedule. If I got 2 A's and the rest B's (out of like 6 classes) for the last part, what would I need to get per each class to keep my GPA? (i.e the B's were like 85's-86's)

Roger: Well, 2 A’s and 4 B’s would give you a GPA of 3.33 for the current semester. I can’t tell you how that would affect your overall GPA of 3.71, without knowing how many classes you’ve taken total.

I have a 28% in AP Calculus BC. Is it possible to get a D- (60%) if I do good on my finals which is worth 15% of my grade?

Roger: If you get 100% on your final, your grade will increase to a 38.8%. I don’t think it’s possible to raise your grade to a 60%.

Hi. I have a 78 in one of my courses. The only grades left for the semester are 10% for participation and 25% is our final. I'm not sure how he grades participation since we never have any type of class work or discussions, so let's do two scenarios. One where I have all 10% for participation and one where I have 0%. In both cases, what do I need to score on the final to stay at 70 average or above?
Thanks!!!

Roger: If you get full credit in participation, then your overall grade will increase to a 80.9%, and you’ll need to get at least a 37.2% on the final to get a 70% overall (or if you get at least a 77.2% on the final, you can get a 80% overall). If you get no credit in participation, then your overall grade will decrease to a 67.6%, and you’ll need at least a 77.2% on the final to get a 70% overall.

Hello I have a grade of 51.70% attendance is 10% assignments 20% extra credit 15% quizzes 25% and exams 30% at this point I just have a quiz and a final what would be my grade if I Ace them both

Roger: The exact answer depends on your current quiz average and how many quizzes you’ve taken so far. Also, does your final count in the exams category? Is it worth the same as any other exam? If so, I need to know your current exam average and how many exams you’ve taken so far.

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 04:48:35 GMT

I need to know my science grade currently and what I need on the 5th exam and the comprehensive final to get a D or C in the class.

I have 5 exams all together worth 55%, so each is worth 11% on my grade. On the first exam I got a 60, the second an 85, the third a 55, and the fourth a 66.

Then I have daily assignment grades which are 15% overall, so for five units 3% each. And I have and will get complete full points on those for the five units. So full points in this section.

Then I have 3 long term papers that constitute 7.5% of my course grade. I have turned in 2 LTO's and have received full credit for both. The last is not due yet, but let's assume for this I get full credit for it.

Then I have 3 control experiement papers that constitute 7.5% and have turned in two of them receiving full credit on both. The last isn't due yet, but again let's assume I receive full credit.

Then he says 5% for "professionalism" so let's assume that I will also get full credit. Becsuse I have no idea what that is. Probably participation.

Then I have a comprehensive final exam worth 10% of my grade that I have not taken.

I am wondering if you can tell me three things. My current score in the class with everything I have so far. What I need on exam five excluding the final exam to have a C or B, and what I need on the comprehensive final exam assuming I got a D on exam five to have a D or C in the course overall. With a D being 60-69% and a C being 70-79%.

Thank you for your help.

Roger: Your current grade is a 81.3%. In order to get a 70% (C) overall, you’ll need to average at least a 27.3% on your 5th exam and the final exam. In order to get a 80% (B) overall, you’ll need to average at least a 75.0% on your 5th exam and the final exam. If you got a 65% (D) on the 5th exam, then you’d need at least a -14.1 (that’s negative) on the final exam to get a 70% (C) overall. In the same scenario (65% on the 5th exam), you’d need to get a 85.9% on the final exam to get a 80% (B) overall. Hope that helps!

Roger: You’d need to get a 265.3% on the final to raise your grade to a 50%. (Are you sure your numbers are correct?)

Okay so here is my situation

Homework - 10%
Attendance - 5%
Exams (3 of them) - 60%
Final - 25%

This are the requirements. I checked and found that:

Homework: I got a 93.7%
Attendance: I got a 97%
Exams: 58.21%

What do I need to do to get a final grade. Also, apparently my class is the type where the lowest possible exam score is deleted. Sadly I did VERY poorly on my exams..
I got a 62%, 55% and 56%..only the 55% is deleted. Soo excluding that what should I get on the final..?

All I want is a high C (starting from 70%) or a low B (staring from a 80)..

Roger: Hmm.. your Exam score should be a 59%, after the lowest score is dropped. But I’ll use your “58.21%” number instead (you probably just omitted the decimals when you stated your exam scores). Your current grade is a 65.5%. To get a 70% overall, you’ll need to get at least an 83.4% on the final. To get a 80% overall, you’ll need to get at least a 123.4% on the final.

If I have a grade of 85% in the class and I have an assignment that is worth 15% and I get a 0 what would my grade turn into?

Roger: Assuming that you have no empty categories in your grade (like an empty Final Exam category), then your grade would drop to a 72.25%. (Also, did you mean that single assignment is worth 15%? Or it falls into a category that’s altogether worth 15%? I assumed the former.)

Hey, my final is worth 300 points and the overall points possible are 1113. I doubt the final is worth 20% because whenever I fail a 300 point test, my grade drops at least 2 letter grades. Just want to make sure. Thanks!

Roger: A course can’t use both a point system and a percentage breakdown. Either your final is worth 300 points out of 1113 points (which would be 26.9%), or the final is actually worth 20%, and it’s just a coincidence that it’s scored out of 300 points. The decision is ultimately up to your teacher, so you should confirm with them.

Hi Roger.
Just need some help figuring out my current weighted average and how much i need on my final to end with a 97%

There are 4 midterm exams all out of 30 and each are worth 10%. Here are my grades.

Midterm1- 29/30
Midtem2- 29/30
Midterm3- 28/30
Midterm4- 29/30

There are 11 tutorial quizes each worth 20% and at the end of the semester he drops out lowest tutorial quiz

I got 20/20 on all quizes except for turorial 1 and tutorial 8 which i got 19/20 in them both.

We did a group project worth 10% and i got 18/20 on that

Could you let me know what I current average is? And hiw much i need on my final exam?

My final exam is worth 30% of my overall grade.

Roger: Your current overall grade should be a 96.04%, including the policy where your lowest tutorial quiz is dropped. You’ll need to get at least a 99.22% on the final exam to get a 97% overall.

I use your calculator pretty frequently because it's great. I also use it because I love reading all the comments. Some people are pretty normal, but you have quite a few nuts on here too. That is also great. So this comment is just a shout out to you for putting up with all us wacky humans and helping us pass our classes (or not).

P.S. Last trimester you told me I needed an 88.45 on my AP Bio final for a 90.00 and guess what I got? 88.49. I got my A, and you're the bomb.

Roger: Congrats on the A!

Hi! So I am just looking to see what I need on the next test to pass the class. Not necessarily a final, but typically our tests are weighted 55% of our grade, and in order to pass, you need a 60% or higher. Right now I am at a 85 and have take 2 tests, that have added up to 70 points and have averaged a D. What would I need on the next test to get at least a D?

Roger: So, you meant that 85% is your overall grade right? To give you an exact answer, I need some more information about each of the categories in your grade (are there any empty categories? are all of your tests worth the same amount?). But, if you currently have a “D” average for your two exams, then getting another “D” means that your overall grade will stay the same. So, you should be able to get basically any grade on the 3rd test, and end up with at least a 60% overall (assuming your current overall grade really is an 85%).

I need you to calculate something for me.Okay so I am in calc 1.I need an A.It could be A,A-, A+, it doesn t matter.Okay so this is the breakdown of the grad.40% online homework.40% in class exams.20% final exam.A=93 and higher.A-: 90-92. B+: 87-89. B:83-86.B-:80-82.So on the first in class exam I got a 8/21.Second exam I got a 14/34. On the first homework assigmement : 51/63.Second : 41/44. Third : 90/114. Take home test online :
100/100. Hw #4: is out of 130 points and due on the 22 of April. What do I need to get on the final and he to get an A in the class. Please help.

Roger: I’ll assume that your “Take home test online” counts as a homework, since you listed it with the other homework assignments. So, your homework average is a 87.9% and your exam average is a 40%. That means your current overall grade is a 63.9%. In order to get a 90% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 155.4% on your Hw #4 and Final Exam. In order to get an 80% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 123.7%. To get a 70% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 92.0%.

I have a question my grade overall is 85% but I don't have time to do an assignment that is 66% of my grade what would be my grade if I don't do it

Roger: Is that one assignment worth 66% of your grade? Or is in a category that’s worth 66% of your grade? I’ll assume that it’s worth 66% by itself and that you have no remaining parts of your grade. If so, your overall grade will drop to a 28.3%.

So okay, the 1st quarter I had a 88 , 2nd I got a 85, and 3rd quarter is a 78, forth quarter I haven't finished yet but I am aiming to get and A or B. I haven't taken the final yet but what would I need to get to keep a B!! Final is worth 15%!

Roger: Okay, so let’s say you got an 85% on your fourth quarter. Then, your overall grade would be a 84%. So, you would need at least a 57.3% on the final to get a 80% (B) overall.

Here is the rundown.

Midterm worth: 25% of final grade, got a 100 out of 100%
Skills Exam: 15% of final grade, not yet taken
Final Exam: Not yet taken, worth 20% of final grade.
Labs 25% of final grade, got a 100 out of 100%
Quizzes 10% of final grade, grades as follows 100, 100, 100, 100, 86.66, 86.66, 100, 85, 93.33, 85, 100, 65, 100, 80, and 100%
Attendance 5% of final grade, 100%

What must I get on my final exam and skills exam to get a 90.

Roger: Your current grade is a 98.8%. To get a 90% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 73.7% on the final exam and skills exam.

My current percentage in my class is a 80% my semester percentage in my class is a 75%. I have a test tomorrow that is worth 100 points and is 50% of my grade... What do I need to get without my semester grade going down to a d+??????

Roger: How is your semester grade determined? Is it the average of 2 quarter grades? Is one of the quarter grades an 80%? If you have a single test that determines 50% of your quarter grade, then you’ll need to score at least a 60% on that test to get a semester grade of 70%, which I assume is a C-.
