I love your grade calculator. I've shared it with friends in my nursing program and they love it to. We are all obsessed with passing so we always see how low we can go but still pass. So I have this math problem that I think can be solved but I can't figure it out. For each exam we take we are told the high score, the lowest score and the median. Is there a way to create a curve out of that to see how many people got different grades?
Roger: The short answer is no. If you knew the mean and standard deviation, you could model the scores as a normal distribution. But if you only know the maximum, minimum, and the median, then all you can say is 50% of the grades are in [minimum, median] and the other 50% are in [median, maximum]. Even the normal distribution is just an approximation. If you want an exact answer, you’ll need to know the entire set of scores.

I'm not sure if I can get that, and I am freaking out because I don't want to have a 79 as my final grade. Nothing can be as upsetting as being so close to a borderline B.
