My grade right now is a 92.13 percent and I just took a quiz that is worth 20 percent and I got a 75.56 percent what is my new grade? And then I am taking a test that is worth 40 percent what do I need to make on that with my new grade to maintain an A in the class?

Roger: It depends on (1) how many tests/quizzes you’ve already taken, (2) your current test average and quiz average, and (3) whether you have any empty categories in your grade (like an empty “final exam” category that has no score yet). I’ll assume that was your first quiz and you haven’t taken any tests yet. I’ll also assume that you have a 20% “final exam” category. In that case, your overall grade should drop to a 83.8%. You’ll need to score at least a 96.2% on your test to raise your grade back to a 90%. (If you’ve already taken a few tests/quizzes, then it gets a lot better, so post a followup comment.)

I had the first quiz for my class today and quizzes are worth 1. Is it still possibly to get a 90% if I failed the quiz (40%)?

Roger: How much are your quizzes worth and how many quizzes do you have total?

Procrastination has been a huge problem for me these past years. I'm really struggling to get a B in math and chemistry so that the I can get into nursing school. I put everything off, right now I have a test tomorrow and I haven't even began studying and it's already late at night and I am STILL procrastinating to the point where I might not study at all. People always say "just do it" but it doesn't work like that, it's like I physically can not sit down and actually do the work. It's such a terrible habit that has been permanently engrained in me and I just don't know what to do with my life. If I struggle so much in highschool, how am I gonna be able to get through nursing school? Chemistry especially is going to be the death of me this year, I hate it so much, I'm worried about passing, let alone getting a B I feel so behind. I have at this. I don't know if there is anything else I want/can do after high school I'm so lost and a disappointment to my family.

Ok, so, I currently have a 98 in my English class... and I have an assignment that is worth 20 points of my grade. I think I'm going to get an "f". If I do, what would my final grade be?

Roger: It depends on how many points you have total.

PLEASE HELP
I really need an A in this chemistry class. As of now I have a 58% because I got a 59 on my first exam and 20% on first quiz. Our 4 exams are worth a cumulative 35%. Our final is worth 20%. Our homework is worth 5%.. quizzes are 15%(lowest grade dropped) and lab work is worth 25%. Assuming I do well in all other categories meaning 90 average, what do I need to get on my next three exams and final to average to a grade of 92 or higher!!!
I must get an A and so far not good at all

Roger: If your goal is to get a 92% overall, then you should aim higher than a 90% in your other categories (lab work and homework). But I’ll assume that you’ll average a 90% on your future lab work, homework, and quizzes as well. I’ll also assume you have 3 more quizzes to take. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 100.2% on your next 3 exams and your final to get a 92% overall. If you want a 90% overall, then you’ll need to average at least a 95.9% on your next 3 exams and final. Now, if we redo the calculations assuming you can average a 95% on your future lab work, homework, and quizzes, then you’ll only need to average a 95.3% on your next 3 exams and your final to get a 92% overall. (And if you want a 90% overall while averaging a 95% on your lab work, homework, and quizzes, then you’ll only need to average at least a 91.0% on your next 3 exams and final.) Good luck!

Roger: It depends on (1) how many quizzes you’ve taken so far, (2) your current quiz average, and (3) whether you have any empty categories in your grade, like a “participation” category that currently has no grade.

This is 100% accurate, you'd have to have all the grades to calculate it accurately. But it does give a really freaking good idea.

I have 26 lessons that are worth 1/3 of my grade and 7 tests that are worth 2/3 of my grade. If I make at least a 90 on each lesson, what's the lowest I can make on all 7 tests to pass with at least a 75?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 67.5% on your 7 tests to get a 75% overall.

The FitnessGram Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line and run as long possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound. Your test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

Hi Roger! It's the beginning of the marking period and I just failed my test with a 40. It's worth 80 percent of my grade so how many tests do I need if I get about an 80 in each upcoming test in order to get at least a B average?

Roger: I’ll assume that a B average means at least 80%. In that case, you won’t be able to raise your grade to a B by getting 80% on your future tests. (Even if you take a thousand tests and get 80% on all of them, your test average will still be less than 80%.) But if you get 85% on your next 8 tests, then you’ll be able to raise your grade to an 80%. Hope this helps.

Hey Kid who wanna take AP Comp Sci
Tue, 14 Feb 2017 23:56:27 GMT

You should take it as soon as possible if your main attention is landing in the fields of Computer Science. You should also take AP Comp Sci 2 as a Senior in order to catch up to the high school computer science courses.

Hey Roger,

I am thinking about taking AP Comp Sci junior year because I want to become a computer scientist. Could you please tell me whether that's a good idea or not?

Thanks

Roger: The primary purpose of an AP Computer Science course is to prepare you for the AP exam. That has the unfortunate consequence of deprioritizing all the things that get people excited about computer programming (which, I suppose, applies to some extent to all AP courses). If you’re interested in computer programming, go ahead and take the course, but be aware that the AP curriculum can be both more boring and more narrowly scoped than what an introductory computer science course could be. (Also, maybe ask around and see if your teacher is any good?)
