Roger: Well, Tumblr doesn’t provide an easy way to get a list of all blogs, so you’ll either need to start with a curated of ones you’re interested in, or you’ll need to crawl them either via the API, the web interface, or perhaps some third party that already has this information. From there, it’s a simple matter of using the same avatar fetching API that’s used on this page to download avatars. The endpoint supports 304 Not Modified responses if you populate ETag and last modified date headers correctly, which can save you a bunch of bandwidth. Then, all you need to do is store the avatars somewhere and provide an interface to look up avatars from the past. Of course, this doesn’t work for avatars from before you start scraping.

Could you try to do one this is kind of useless now since tumblr is dying a bit

EXAMPLE.tumblr.com
it should be
username.tumblr.com
NOTHING ELSE!
