So I'm guessing I'm going to need a 100%+ in order to achieve a proper grade in my class I can't afford to lose my 5.0 GPA... Fun I hate my life...

I just really need to vent rn bc I'm so stressed and like yeah sure I'm smart and like I know I can do good but just everything being piled up and my life is hectic and like why do schools do finals the week before Christmas like I'm supposed to just pretend in like 7 days when I see my grandma that I didn't diarrhea myself multiple times a day from the anxiety I endured?

Roger: You’re taking a lot of classes.

Oh my god. I am so overwhelmed by midterms this year. I literally feel like jumping off a cliff right now. I have an 86.3 in Chem and an 81.3 in APWH. My grades have literally never been this bad before (I used to be a straight A student) and it's just not possible to get them up at this point. I can feel my mental health and relationships deteriorating around me as I become more and more stressed. Can I ask for some advice?

I have problems with procrastinating and keeping track of time. Roger, do you have any advice to help me get my sophomore year back on track and stop this downward spiral of endless self-loathing and procrastination?

Roger: Lots of good students were once straight A students, right up until they got their first B. I got my first B in high school even before the year began (it was Biology during summer school prior to freshman year). I figured that the faster I came to terms with my B, the faster I could get over it. But I also think that you should also spend time reflecting on the last few months and make a list of concrete steps you can take to improve your performance next year. For me, the most effective change was that I started reading the textbook chapters before the lecture. During the lecture, I didn’t take notes. Instead, I just listened and checked if there was anything that I didn’t already know. (If so, then I knew I should have read more closely.) Since the lecture basically became a review session for me, I didn’t have to study as much. Overall, I still spent as much time studying as anybody else. The only difference is that I studied before the material was taught. I subsequently took AP Biology and Biology IB/HL2 and did great in both. I think everyone needs to figure out their own learning styles, and so your mileage may vary. Sorry to hear you’re going through tough times. I don’t think it’s ever worthwhile to stress over grades, because there are so many more important things. Stay strong, and good luck next year!
