Sophomore Engineer

College is harder for me because I am a science major (Mechie). For other majors I would say yes its comparable to high school. But, engineering and science is definitely harder because every class is technical and requires a lot more work.

Warning for people going into junior year of High School
12/9/2019, 4:04:09 AM

I am giving you this warning as a Junior. DO NOT TAKE A BUNCH OF AP CLASSES (ESPECIALLY AP PHYSICS). I currently have 3 AP classes and AP US History and AP Language and Composition is not bad, but AP Physics is making me want to kill myself. So if you are already feeling suicidal, and want to end it, taking AP Physics will make you want to commit die.

What advanced math classes are you taking that are easier than high school? To be fair, I am taking some seriously advanced classes as im a math major, but its way harder. Also to any scared high school students reading this it really isnt that bad, I am taking insane math major courses not algebra-calc 1 so it wont be like what you have to do unless you are also a math major

As response to an earlier comment college can be super fun too! In my experience, the first year of college was easier than high school, but the next years were a bit challenging(but doable!). Lots of great experience were made, prepare to do work, but also prepare to have some fun and new freedom!

College is a lot harder than high school. I'm finishing up my first semester as a freshman, I even took college classes in high school, but this semester has been so exhausting. My advice to you is to not underestimate how hard it's going to be if you choose to go to college. The courses are harder but also moving away to go to school is a huge adjustment. There's no telling what your workload will be or how well you'll be able to handle it, but don't underestimate it.

To add on to my earlier comment, another downside about college is the fact that a LOT more students use study drugs as compared to high school. If you think high school is bad what with all the abuse of study drugs and the like, then you'll be in for a surprise in college.

The worst part is that Big Pharma actually encourages psychiatrists to prescribe such drugs, and so student consumption of such substances is largely legal since it's actually prescribed. The same is true for antidepressants and antipsychotics. I am by no means against medication, but it is often over-prescribed in today's day and age.

Please do NOT take such drugs. Very few people have ADD/ADHD, and even if one DOES have it, using such drugs can lead to psychological problems, violent behavior, weight gain, gynecomastia, and a whole lot of other problems.

My cousin has undiagnosed ADD. He often spends 10+ hours just bouncing around and shaking in his study area because he simply cannot concentrate. THAT is real ADHD because he can go hours, and I mean hours, without being able to focus. Even then, he still does not take medication. He has tried in the past, but it led to some very adverse effects.

Looking at the comments down below, it appears as if most of the people posting primarily consist of high school students.

For those of you asking whether college is harder than high school, for the most part it is NOT. That being said, college is what you make it out to be. As a computer science major at UC San Diego, I find college to be significantly easier than high school. Why is this, you may ask?

Well, it's because for one, AP and honors courses at my high school were significantly harder than some of the advanced math courses I'm currently taking. For two, professors give you the syllabus and class schedule ahead of time and it's very rare for them to change it.

If you miss a quiz or an exam, you do not have to take the test the day you come back like you often do in some high school classes. You have to arrange a time with the instructor to take it. Yes, it's usually harder to make up a test in college than it is in high school, but it's still possible. It's too bad that universities rip you off by actually ALLOWING professors to refuse make-up exams.

College has its own struggles, but this really depends on where exactly you go. I encourage you all to attend religious schools, private schools, and small liberal arts college. Do not attend large universities (i.e. land grants), schools that focus on "diversity," and other such colleges.

The WORST part about college life is the dorm/dining hall situation.

You’ll need to average at least a 124.48% on your remaining assessments and your final exam to get a 90% overall.
Your assessment category is worth 65% of your overall grade.
You’ve scored 360.12 points so far in the assessment category, out of a possible 395 points.
There are 250 points remaining in the assessment category.
Your check for understanding category is worth 20% of your overall grade, and you scored a 18.37%.
Your final exam is worth 15% of your overall grade.

Does the 124.48% mean I need to get extra credit on my remaining assignments to get a 90%? Im super confused about this since I have a 91.3 in the class right now. Roger please help me understand this, I think i may have entered something wrong or I maybe im just being stupid

Roger: I think you might have made a mistake for your “check for understanding” category? Is your grade 18.37%? Or is it 18.37/20, which is 91.85%?
