Just like the responses below, you're completely missing the points here. Many students are in different circumstances, AKA. not privileged. There is definitely a strong correlation to one's circumstances and their possibility and progression in high school. Therefore, someone from a low income family compared to a student coming from a high income family CAN definitely show differences in attaining high grades, and believe me there's a lot of cases out there. Students coming from low income families probably have to deal with more problems beside their parent's low paying jobs, which can directly affect a student's success. Again you're proving to these peoples points that people on this website are constantly posting their good grades and such. You just did that with your previous comment. What I, and several of the other commenters here are trying to stress is that there are a million other kids on this site who aren't doing so well. The least they have to hear is someone performing way way better than them. They're probably trying hard as well. That can ruin their confidence in themselves and in general they can become more self-conscious than they already were! Really, there is a negative effect in boasting your grades. You may have all these nice things and you have done all these extracurriculars but by the looks of what you can do in your school illustrates that you're not struggling like a lot of us, in grades or in outside circumstances. Since Dougherty is already located in a high income area, the money is secure for families, leading to better education opportunities for students like you. Obviously a lot of students can't get that opportunities. Heck, some teachers might be doing half ass jobs and can also be a factor to them not succeeding. But at least get the big picture: there is inequality to how people succeed and the people at the top are constantly blind to see the problems of the people at the bottom. I know, America's cruel. Thanks for your contribution.

What I meant by that, for example, was that all of my friends know about my grades, and they might say things such as "I wish I was smart like you" when really I'm no smarter than they are...
Honestly you're right though, none of what I'm saying has any relevance or matter, I'm sort of just discussing.

Alright, this is what I have to say about this manner. By the way, this is for everyone who feels as if bragging about their good grades is necessary (notice how I never said having good grades in the first place is wrong).
1. You totally missed the point, as others have previously mentioned. They were saying that you shouldn't boast about your grades because it'll make others feel bad. Read some of the other comments and you'll see. Trying to target them and saying they have bad grades and are feeling jealous about it is insulting and not productive to argumentation. I believe @AsianKid already settled this.
2. Who ever said anything negative about good grades? They just said it's great that you are fortunate enough to have those achievements but that does not equate to you boasting and now bashing/mocking others.
3. I'm not even gonna talk in detail about the Asian point. If you want to look into that go ahead and actually read the comments before you respond. As I can see, you are still using that username. Obviously, you either haven't read what many others have said and decided to make assumptions on their arguments or you do not comprehend it. If it is the latter, I highly suggest you go back and try to understand their point.
4. You literally just did what many people have said to not do: brag. Again, if you want to look at the impact, read the other comments and see how it can affect people's confidence.
Essentially, what I'm trying to say is that you need to get out of your protective bubble of school and grades for your own sake. In fact, your own school suggest that you are pretty fortunate, so you can't understand what other people are going through. Be humble, be understanding, and be encouraging. Sadly they don't really teach this at school, now do they?

I agree that there is no point and don't exactly look back in pride to any times that I've mentioned my grades. Quite the opposite, I try to avoid mentioning my grades at school due to an odd villinization of those who get good grades, like they've done something wrong. That probably sounds a bit like a crying rich kid or something but I'm of the opinion that the intensity of personal problems are very relative.
And yes not everything I said pertained to this comment section, I guess I was just talking about final times talk in general
I'm not even sure of my original point, besides maybe even if you can't DO anything you desire, I suppose, but that you can sure put a lot of effort into trying, if it is that important to you (and I don't think ANYONE should hold something like grades in such a prestige, but I get it if you need them for a specific college)

I'll admit I was playing devils advocate moreso than my personal feelings, but I'm not going to say what I said wasn't correct. If you 'want' an A, I do believe you can get one. Will you possibly wreck several more valuable things To achieve this goal? Sure. Again, as it did not seem to be well communicated in my previous comment, I am by no means saying that you should do these things, heck, I on a personal level strongly agree that things like real experience are way more important, but what I meant was more that good grades can be worked for, no matter the circumstance.
With this information on my opinion in mind, this is why I do not like when people complain about bad grades, or 'wish they were smart' like so-and-so.
Really, it's just a pointless arguement, but I am only here for ranting purposes.

Yall are pissing me off. Immediately when someone comments they have good grades you guys just get mad that you don't have good grades. And you think that I'm naturally smart? I study my butt off everyday and work for my 4.6 gpa. Its not easy, but its worth it. Most of you guys here have absolutely no reason to not get an A. If you put in the hard work, success will come. And on a side note, IT IS possible to have excellent grades and have many extra curricluars. I'm on varsity swim, volunteer at a hospital, have my own website, play piano, medical internship, among many others. If you put in the work, success WILL COME. And why is the average grade in America a C? not because America is dumb, its because America is lazy (sorry to generalize but mostly true).
tsk tsk..
Sun, 10 Jan 2016 20:55:42 GMT
@MUDAMUDAMUDA
That's really rude. Some people do so many extracurricular activities in order to have an outstanding application for college. Good universities look for more than just good grades. They look at a well rounded student. Congrats on working hard, but you can't say that it's other people's fault that they don't quit, and they aren't "choosing to get a worse grade." They are choosing to be an outstanding student.

I mean I guess
Sun, 10 Jan 2016 20:40:27 GMT
Nobody here is trying to say that extracurriculars are so important to the point where they would be prioritized above our grades. Rather, I'm saying that many of these "smart" students on this website brag about how high their grades are, but do not necessarily have as many extracurriculars as other people. In general, there is no reason for one to be boasting their straight A's. What do they gain from telling people that they only need a 30% on their final to maintain an A? What type of reward do they get for deeming themselves as "smart"? On the other hand, there are plenty of us that are currently stressed out from finals as we need a high grade in order to even maintain a B or a C. I'm just trying to say that these "smart" people need to stop looking down on others and raising themselves up just because they have high grades. Their high grades could be due to the fact that they literally just stay at home studying afterschool or on the weekends, while many of us have extra curricular activities that take up time. Our situations are all different, therefore, there is NO NEED to be praising yourself on this website for other people to see. I don't think anybody seemed to understand my viewpoint. "You get the grade that you want to get, and that's that". That's not true at all. Plenty of us out here want an A, heck, even a B is fine. But do we have those grades? No. Therefore, you have absolutely no right to be saying that we will get the grade that we want. Yes, we work hard for our grades. Yes, we WANT good grades. But, we still don't have it. And that's why none of us want to be hearing all of these comments saying that they have such high grades, because it lowers our self esteem. So yeah, next time I want an A in AP Bio, I'm just going to sit here and wish upon a star all night long and I guess according to you, I'll get that A. Btw, did you ever stop to think that extra curriculars are actually valuable? Many colleges are looking for students who not only have good grades, but also have extra curriculars, in order to show that they are a WELL ROUNDED student. Nobody wants someone who just sat at home reading textbooks all day long. Honestly, who "chooses to get a worse grade"? Who does? Name me one person who chooses to get bad grades.
@MUDAMUDAMUDA
Sun, 10 Jan 2016 20:37:27 GMT
I don't totally agree with your comment. First of all you can't assume students who do extracurriculars just automatically value their club, sport, or band program instead over school, because THERE IS A LOT of people who do value school more over their extracurricular. Extracurriculars are still important for colleges and more importantly, building character. Quitting half way doesn't show that you had character at all. Colleges want you to have them so they can see that you're not just smart with books and you just can't quit in the middle for an A. In the big world you just can't quit because you are not getting what you want.Second, there are students out there who have many problems in their lives whether it be financial, school, or family. Some have to work to support their families which takes away time they have to study. Yeah it's harder for them and they can't really manage because they have other responsibilities. Maybe these issues are the root cause of their difficulties in school, in which they must solve first in order to actually reach that point where they have an EQUAL chance just like you to easily attain high grades. They weren't born with the same privileges that some people have, which are easily taken for granted. We can't say "Well they could try harder" because their efforts are probably invested in those real life issues stated above. I swear some people are stuck in their own world that's limited to just school and grades but that isn't the case for everyone, so unless that you have been through his/her own personal hardships, you don't have the right to say those things, which is quite frankly derogatory and insulting. I suggest you google the comic, "On a Plate" by Toby Morris.

I can't really agree with these comments. You get the grade that you want to get, and that's that. Sure, one person's situation may make it so that it's much, much harder to get those grades, but it doesn't mean you can't get them. You have too many extracurriculars? If you REALLY wanted that A, you'd quit. And I'm not saying that you should quit, I'm just saying that you value the experience of the extracurriculars more than your grade, and are choosing to get a worse grade.
As someone who has to work extremely hard to get A's, I'm sick of people saying they wish they were "smart" like I am. While maybe there are geniuses out there, the average person doesn't just have some heavenly knowledge bestowed upon them at birth.

there are ABSOLUTELY no excuses for not having straight A's. Don't blame your bad grades on outside circumstances like family issues and jobs. I have plenty of extracurriculars, work a job, and still have straight A's. #stanfordbound
Nobody here said that they wished they were smart. NOBODY said that. Just like other people, you seem to be missing the point here: if you get good grades, there's no reason to be bragging about it. And also, nobody accused you of telling them to quit their extra curriculars.
Awww, man, here are some tissues to comfort yourself. You are so unfortunate, I don't even know how you managed to even type that up, such courage you have. I very deeply appreciate how you had to post that to make everyone else feel better about their grades. So considerate and caring, really. Forget about those hardworking students who have to work two jobs to help support their families and those who have difficult situations at home. Forget about those kids who have to go to underfunded schools and are seriously unfortunate. You totally have my condolences.
Lol spelled Asian wrong embarrassing
What can I say? Haters gonna hate. This website is running my smartness. I got a 96 on my AP Calc BC test so now my perfect grade of 99 is gone. Ugh my grade now dropped to a 98. Now I truly know what it feels like to have borderline grades.
Well sheet I need a 143% to get 75% for my final grade
I gotta get a 99.9 on my final to get an A 0_0
it's* Also, work on your parallelism. I know I sound like a smartass now but trust me, haha, I'm not. If you're gonna give off a smarty pants persona at least do it right. Js~~~
This website is super helpful! Thanks for helping me feel less stressed!
To yall who are saying you need like 30% to maintain an A, is your final only worth like 10% of semester grade?
wow dude sounds like you must get a lot of girls with all that hard work....
I don't really listen to Green Day but whenever this time of year comes around I find myself addicted to their song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Ha, I wonder why...
Roger what do you think about these arguments?
You Make Me Finals Weak
i dont think you really see the point of what they're trying to argue man
For all of you out there who are struggling and need some moral support, you can do this! No matter how difficult it may seem just know that it isn't the end of the world. Many others are in a similar situation as you so you're not alone. GOOD LUCK!!!
i need 100% to get a B+ on my final -.-
dude I need an 98% on my english exam to get an B. going to go crawl into a hole now.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET AN 117% ON MY FINALS?!?!? THATS NOT EVEN POSSIBLE IM GOING TO GO CRY AND EAT ICECREAM BC IM NOT GPING TO PASS MARINE BIO WHICH SOUNDS EASY BUT ITS NOT ???
Hey, I was just looking at this and woah. I'm trying to not take a side here but tbh some of them didn't even mention their own grades so you can't really make the assumption that their grades are bad. I mean, their English skills seem pretty good and what they're saying is true and constructed well. If I had to take a guess I would say that their grades are pretty solid. Btw, what they said about Asians is VERY TRUE and you didn't answer that yet still use that name. Just my own input.
Btw, nobody called you naturally smart...
The point is that there's no need to be bragging about your GPA.
This final grade calculator is really useful, so thanks!... even though now I'm a bit nervous. Let me just say that I REALLY HATE CALCULUS WITH A PASSION OF A THOUSAND BURNING SUNS!!! Ugh back to studying... rip.
i am god
@MUDAMUDAMUDA
I need a -27.9% to finish physics with an A.. do I bother to come? oh yeah because I need a 90% to finish APUSH with an A...
All of these encouraging comments out there really help me, so thanks for that. As for all of y'all trying to show off, stfu and stop trying to make ppl who are emotionally vulnerable during finals (like me) feel even more depressed. Before any of you say, "Omg hahaha this person probably has a bad grade," it's not even about that, just the exams in general. Think before you speak. Bye.
ah finals week.. the time I contemplate suicide
I need a 93 for a 93 in bio that's cutting it a bit close don't you think
I just want the 4.0 so bad and bio is about to stop that from happening
Mostly just ranting into the void
when you spend more time reading the comments than studying for your final...oops
Hey Cs get degrees
