If something is 12% of your grade what's the most it can bring your grade up? Thanks Roger!

Roger: The answer depends on what your current grade is. For example, if your current grade is a 0%, then that assignment can bring your grade up to a 12%, which is a +12% increase. However, if your current grade is 100%, then no matter how high you score on the assignment, it cannot raise your score any higher (unless you can get extra credit on it).

I have a dissertation in two parts ones worth 40 %of the overall grade and is worked out numerically and the remaining obviously 60%. I have scored 39 in part one ...40 is a pass...at the part worth 40% how much do I need to get in my other r part numerically to secure 80 points nit 80%

Roger: So, if you got a 39/40 on the first part, then you’ll need at least a 41/60 (68.3%) on the second part in order to have an 80/100 total. Is that what you were asking? Hope this helps.

Roger: If you’re using the option that’s labeled “There are 2+ parts to my final. What do I have to get on them?”, then you should provide the grade you had before the first part of your final was factored into your grade. If you’re using the normal calculator, you should use your current grade (including the first part of your final), but make sure you adjust the weight of your final exam to include only the remaining parts. For example, if your final is worth 20%, but it’s divided into two 10% exams, then you should just say that your final is worth 10% of your grade.

So, I got a response previously as to my PreCalculus question, its the one below:

Okay, so I have 1243 points out of 1376 points on my PreCalc class. In my class, the teacher replaces the lowest test score, currently an 80/100 point test, with the grade you get on the final. Based on this, what percentage would I need on the final to get either an 89 or a 90 (She gives extra points for 6 bathroom passes, I haven't used any. The passes don't have a set extra credit pointage, but typically they bring an 89 up to a 90-92). Thanks!

So, in response to your question as to what the final is worth, it's worth 20% of my grade, the standard, I think that would change the grade I need on the final wouldn't it? I'd just like to know what I need to know how much to study, I have an Engineering project that is not at all light in the time section to do...

Roger: So, you still haven’t told me what happens if you get a bad score on the final (less than an 80/100). In that case, does your bad final grade replace your lowest test score? That would end up hurting your grade, rather than helping it. I’ll also assume that your extra credit will count for an additional 2% toward your overall grade. If your final exam score will replace your lowest test, regardless of whether you do better or worse on the final than the lowest test, then you’ll need to get at least a 79.0% on the final exam to get a 90% overall. If it doesn’t replace your lowest test, then you’ll need to get at least a 78.7% on the final exam to get a 90% overall.

So in chemistry, my grade is calculated by quarter. (45% first quarter, 45% second quarter, 10% Final) I got a 95.11% first quarter but I really dropped the ball this quarter and I'm currently getting a 79.56% (253/318 points). Assuming I get a 90% on the final, how many more points do I need to get this quarter to get an A (90%) in my class?

Roger: You’ll need to get at least a 84.9% on your second quarter average to get a 90% overall, assuming that you get a 90% on the final.
