Hey, I have a 63% in my science class and a pass is 50%. My final exam is worth 20% of our final grade. The exam is out of 250. What do I have to get on the exam out of 250 to pass the class (50) and what percentage is that?

Roger: You need at least -2% on the final exam. If you get a zero on the final, then your overall grade will drop to a 50.4%, which is still passing. Now, if you want to aim for a 60% instead of a 50%, then you’ll need to get at least a 120/250 (48%) on the final exam. If you want to get a 70% overall, you’ll need to get at least a 245/250 (98%) on the final exam. Does that help?

If I'm getting a 73% in English, and I do an ISU (independent study unit) and my scrapbook is worth 10% and my presentation is worth 5% and I get the whole 5% because I received an (84/90) for my presentation but only receive a 69%(137/200) on my scrapbook, and my final exam is worth 30% of my grade. What is my final mark in that class??

Roger: If you got an 84/90 on your presentation, that would only give you 4.67% out of 5%. You haven’t told me what you got on the final, but once your presentation and scrapbook grades are included, your overall grade will be a 73.8%. I’m not sure why you said you’d get the whole 5% for your presentation, since you didn’t get a full score on it.
