Sorry the last 2% is apparently a participation grade. The Lab portion is supposed to be 6% each 6x3=18% If I end up doing badly I would rather just accept the C+ and retake the course another semester. If I get lower than a C+ then I won't be able to take the higher level courses.

Here are some helpful tips when you are studying for finals:
-Please remember to eat! And not “I’m too busy studying to eat!” or “Oh I’ll grab some potato chips and a twix.” Actually eat something substantial. Make yourself scrambled eggs and toast. Put some fruit on top of yogurt. Go grab Chipotle. Whatever floats your boat. Food helps keep your energy up!

-Drinking is also important! Keep some water by your side. Tea and coffee can be good too, just not too much of it! (And don’t go for any energy drinks like 5hour energy!) Hydrate your brain!

-Get up and move once in a while. You may find that hard to do, maybe you’re in a library with lots of people or you just lack motivation. In the great words of Shia LaBeouf, “Just do it!” Put on your favorite song and jump around. Go to the furthest reaches of the library and run up and down a deserted aisle. This will keep you awake and focused. Seriously.

-Be confident. Even if you need a 200% to pass your class, study hard and walk into the exam like you own the room.

-Don’t just read your notes. Make flash cards. Quiz your friend. Have your friend quiz you. Explain a concept to someone who doesn’t know what you’re studying.

-Khan Academy is a great resource. Crash Course by John and Hank Green is also very good, and funny so it keeps your interest.

-Have set break times. 15-20 minute breaks in between 30-40 minutes of studying can be very beneficial.

Lastly, good luck! I believe in you!

I have a 55 in my honors algebra 2 class, i just took some make up test one i made a 100 on and the other a 56, if i make a hundred on the last one what will my final grade be?

Roger: How much are your tests worth? Are your make up tests supposed to replace an existing part of your grade? Did you miss a couple of tests because you were out of school for a while?

I have a 74.625% in the second quarter in chemistry. We have 3 quizzes worth 25% of our grade and 4 labs worth 25% our grade remaining, and a test worth 35% of my grade. Also a final worth 20% of the final grade. In the first quarter i received a 74.2%. What will I need on the upcoming assigments and final to recieve at least a 79.5% in the class?

Scale:
Tests 35%
Quizzes 25%
Labs 25%
Homework 15%

Roger: The exact answer depends on your current average grade in your tests, quizzes, and labs category. Also, I need to know how many of each type of assignment you’ve already completed, assuming that each of your tests/quizzes/labs are worth an equal amount within their categories.

Hi Roger!

I am super stressed about my chemistry grade. The two midterms I already took add up to 60 percent of my final grade; I got a 128/150 on the first one, then totally bombed the next one, getting a 74/150. The first one he labeled as an B+ and the second was labelled as a D+. I would just your grade calculator, but I don't know what his grade boundaries are. I know an A is not possible anymore, and don't even know if I can pull a B... Can you help me calculate/figure out how well I need to do on my final to pull a B-? I know this is difficult since the grade boundaries are undefined, but just thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Roger: I’ll assume that your final is worth the remaining 40% of your grade. Your current overall grade should be a 67.3%, which is probably a C+ according to the two grade labels you provided. I’ll estimate that the minimum grade for a B- is a 72%. In that case, you’ll need to score at least a 79% on your final exam to get a B-. Hope this helps!

Hey Roger so this is in addition to my previous post... Didn't do so well on my second lab exam so here it goes...
I want to see what I need for the next exam to get atleast a B- in the class. Grading is as follows:
Exam 1: 20% (got a 78)
Exam 2: 20% (got a 58)
Exam 3: 20% ( Don't know what I need. Aiming for a 96)
Final: 10% (Don't know what I need. Aiming for 100 or a 96)
Online Assignmemts: 10% (I'm getting full credit 10/10)
Labs: 18% (Based on 3 exams. I got a 56 on the first one. 30 on the second one. Next one aiming for a 96)
B- starts at an 80.0 and goes up from there. What do I need to get on the two lecture exams to atleast get a B- for the course? Is it even possible at this point? Lab professor says that I average at a C but I don't think that she calculated it all correctly. I really don't want a C for this course...

Roger: Why are your lab exams only worth 18% now? You said they were worth 20% last time. I’ll assume that you just made a mistake and that they’re still worth 20%. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 101.1% on your Exam 3, your final, and your 3rd lab exam to get an 80%. If you want a 70% overall instead, you’ll need to score at least a 73.8% on your Exam 3, your final, and your 3rd lab exam.

This really stinks
Tue, 29 Nov 2016 21:18:06 GMT

I got a 64 on a quiz and the quiz alone is worth 5 percent of the grade. I have two other quizzes one worth 10 on its own and one also worth 5 on its own. To pass the class with an 80 what do I need to get on the 10 percent quiz and the 5 percent 5 quiz. Also I have a final worth 15 percent of the grade. If I get an 100 on the final what will the overall grade be assuming I got an 85 on both other quizzes.

Roger: Your 3 quizzes and your final exam only add up to 35% of your whole grade. What is the rest made of?

A man and his wife are walking down the street when the wife turns to her husband and says “honey, I think it’s snowing” the man looks back at her and says “no it’s raining.” To settle the debate between the two they ask the friendly redcoat standing at the end of the street. The redcoat, Rudolph tells them that it is in fact raining. The husband turns to his wife and says “see, Rudolph the red knows rain dear.”

Hello roger,
I have a 89.5 percentage in my class and it makes me sad. Every night I look at it, tears form in my eye. Please help me. #savesndrewplz

Roger: Skip a couple of homework assignments, then your grade will be a solid B and you won’t be sad anymore.

Ugh, I have an low A before the final... so I'm not sure if I should study (with a small chance of getting an A) or not study and take a B (because I already know the final will be super hard). I'd rather just not try and get a B, so that I won't be disappointed. Otherwise if I study really hard and still barely miss an A, I will be soooooo disappointed! Not sure what to do! Advice?

Roger: Study and go for the A! Maybe your final scores will be curved.

Dear Mr. Roger,

How do I convince my AP teacher to round up my grade?

I'm only 0.83% away from an A and I would be so frustrated to have worked so hard and end up getting a B! I need to get 96% on the final to get this A on my own. Hopefully, my teacher will be convinced and round me up.

Any tips, Roger?

Thank you sooooo much!
~Stressed Ivy League Hopeful

Roger: I was in a similar situation once. I needed to score a little more than 99% on the final to raise my grade to an 89.5%. So, I went home and legit studied for almost 8 hours straight until I had to eat dinner and go to sleep. I ended up with a 93% on the final, which was better than I expected, but not good enough. I think you should aim for a perfect 100%. It’ll be fun. And even if you don’t get the grade you want, it probably won’t matter in a few years (mine didn’t).

YO IM FAILING GYM CLASS RIGHT NOW!!!!! Apparently we had to do this bullshit thing called "The Mile" and my time was 20 minutes so I got a 0/20 and "The Mile" was apparently worth 30% of our grade!!!

Participation was worth 50% of our grade and my point total for that was 30/50 cause I thought I was Usain Bolt and didn't need to go to fucking class.

The remaining 20% of our grade is the 100 meter sprint. The grades are as follows:

Under 10 sec= 10/10
Under 11 sec= 5/10
11 sec or over= 0/10

Do I really need to get under 10 seconds to pass Gym (passing grade is 50%)???? Honestly this is so fucking bullshit!!!!

Homework 25%
Tests 50%
Final Exam 25%

My homework is 86.33 %
My tests are 84.86 %

My grade in this class is 85.22.
What do I need to make on the final to pass the class with 80%?

Roger: Your overall grade should be a 85.35%, not a 85.22%. You’ll need to get at least a 64.0% on your final exam to get a 80% overall.

Chad
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 08:28:02 GMT

Hey Roger,

I tried doing the math myself already but the total i got added up to over 100 percent in the class which doesn't make sense to me exactly. Currently i have an 80.11% in a class that has 3 tests, two of which are worth 100 points and one of which, my final, is worth 200 points. The weight for this category is 60 percent with homework being 25 percent and clicker quizzes being 15 percent.

My test average right now is a 72.45

My homework average is 99.41

My Clicker average is 78.57

The issue im having with calculating what i would need on my final is that if i receive a higher score on the final than any other ONE of my two previous test, the score on the final replaces that test score. On one of these tests i received a 64.9 percent, and on the other i received an 80 percent. Now if i, in theory, receive an 80 percent on my final, i would have an 80 percent test average with one of those tests having two times the weight of the prior two. so m=the math I'm doing is 80x2=160 + 160= 320/3=106.66x60% equaling a 64 in my grade calculation. When i add the other two categories in with the test average, my theoretical grade is just north of 100% which is impossible given that i havent received 100% on all of my assignments. It is really frustrating me that i cant seem to figure this out properly.

Thanks in advance

Roger: If you get an 80% on your final, then your final will be worth as much as 2 tests, but your past test score of 80% will only be worth as much as 1 test. So, you should compute 80% × 2 + 80% = 240% and then compute your test average with 240% / 3 = 80%. Another way to approach this problem is to replace your first test score with “80%”. So, instead of having {64.9%, 80%}, your test scores would be {80%, 80%, 80%} (the average of which is 80%). By the way, you’ll need to score at least a 68.4% on your final exam to get a 80% overall.
