Roger I really need your help man! I have a 68 in math need a seventy. Test are 2/3 of my grade and assignments are 1/3. The worst test grade is not In the final grade so I have a C on all my tests and an average assignment score ranging from C to D ( quite a few A and b scores in there too) I have a week to get it up 2 percent so how screwed am I?

Roger: I don’t have all the information I need to tell you what you need to get on the Final, but you have a pretty low test average. An A or a B will bring your grade up significantly (but maybe not 2%). Do you have more precise numbers?

Hi Roger! My grade in my science class is 92.5. I want an A (93%). All we have left is 3 ten point homework assignments. My overall homework percentage is very high (199.5/202 or 99%), so I know these assignments will not affect my grade too much. If I do get a perfect score on these things, what will my grade be. From there I can use your very helpful calculator to determine what to get on the final!
Thanks!

Roger: Your homework percentage will increase by ~0.16%. Your overall grade will increase by less than that, depending on how much Homework is worth as part of your total grade. Good luck.

Hey roger , I have a 88.34 in anatomy and my test average is a 85.0.. So far there have been 4 tests. I've gotten a 80 , 84 , 86 , 88 on the past four tests . What will i need to get on my last test to boost my grade to a 89.50. The test category is worth 40 percent of my overall grade

Roger: You need to get your test average up to a 87.9%, which means that you need a 99.5% on your last test to get a 89.50% overall.

I also have another question, I'm currently in 8th grade, and all my teachers tell me the best universities don't look at middle school grades or scores that much. Is that true? I'm really confused, and since you go to UCBerkeley which is highly ranked, I'd like some insight from someone who's already walked down the path toward a great university. My parents tell me not receiving a good grade in middle school will be reflected upon in college years, and how not being in an honors course could devastate my future.

Roger: Middle school grades aren’t sent with college applications, but they may affect your ability/priority to get into the classes you want in High School.

Joe
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 06:16:12 GMT

Yeah, it makes sense. I've taken 3 so far though.

Roger: If you still want to know if you could get an 83, I need to know what your average on those 3 tests were.

Joe
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 05:23:02 GMT

Is it still possible for me to get an 83?

Roger: It depends on how many tests you’ve already taken. Again, your teacher is probably correct if he/she has already said that you cannot.

The reason is your 2 tests are not actually worth 60%, so your numbers are wrong. Two tests are worth LESS than 60%, because ALL the tests are worth a total of 60%. Does that make sense?

If I have an 88 right now (for this quarter) and that counts for 40% of my semester grade and each quarter counts for 40% + a 20% final, what do I need to get in my second quarter to get an overall A-?

Roger: If you just get a ~91.33% on your 2nd quarter and on the final, you will get a 90% overall.

Corey

...I need around an 88% on my biology final tomorrow. If I don't get it, my straight A's will be gone and I will have an A-. That would suck. Goodbye. I am going to go study.

Joe
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 02:30:23 GMT

Separate tests are all 60% of my grade. There's homework, quizzes, and tests. Tests: 60% Quizzes: 20% Homework: 20% All these three make up my grade.

Roger: Because you have already taken tests in the past, the 2 tests that you have left are not worth the whole 60%. They are only part of the 60%. Your teacher is probably correct.

Joe
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 02:28:09 GMT

All tests are 60% of my grade, and what do you mean with the Test Category thing? Past tests, the test today, and the final are all 60% of my grade.

Roger: So, you said that there were 2 tests that were worth 60% of your grade. However, that is incorrect. The two tests + all your previous tests are worth 60% of your grade. Your 2 tests by themselves are not worth the WHOLE 60%, but only a part of it. Does that make sense?

5 tests; 4 exams and 1 final. Together they make up 80% of the total grade. I bombed my first two tests, 62% and 68.8%. To pass the class I have to have a 78% on combined test scores. What is the average grade I am going to need on my last three tests?

Thank you,

Roger: 86.4%, assuming your exams are all equally weighted.

Hi, I have a 75.79 in one of my classes and two tests (one test one final)that are both 60% of my grade. I e-mailed my teacher asking if I could get an 83 or above in his class by getting 90s, 95s, and 100s on the last two tests. He said it would be impossible but your program says otherwise. What's going on?

Roger: If your numbers are correct, then it is indeed possible. However, you should double check with your teacher that the two tests are indeed worth total of 60% of your grade, and it isn’t the case that a Test category (which may include other past tests) also share that 60%.

hey roger,

so far i have a 62.5% and i still have one major exam that is a total of 60 points and 2 quizes each worth 20 points. can you tell me what i would need to get on the final exam to get an 70 or 80% im estimating i will get a 15 our of 20 on both quizes. thanks!

Roger: That depends on how many total points all your previous assignments were worth.

The class is split up into a 70% pass or fail portion (tests) and 30% other. I HAVE to make at least a 70% on the 70% portion....I know it's confusing

Quiz 1 --made an 85 (worth 5%)
Test 1-- made a 70 (worth 15%)
Test 2--made a 74 (worth 20%)
Final is worth 30%

What score do I need on the Final to pass?

Roger: You will need to get a 64.83% on the Final. Use these numbers on the calculator to double check: [73.875, 70, 42.857].

Roger: This depends a lot on how much your minor grades are worth in comparison to your major grades. Is it 50/50?

Hi Roger I see you got into UC Berkeley (obviously) and i want to know what your high school stats were that got you into that college (gpa, sat/act) and I also want to know if you think I can get into UCSD with these stats:
UC gpa: 4.19
Sat math: 680
Sat Reading: 660
Sat writing: 660

I didnt do a lot of extra cirric. activities but I live in San Diego ( btw does that help?)
I would love to receive feedback thanks!

Yes, for this teacher, quizzes and tests are the same thing. 40% for both! The last test was worth 10 points! I got a 6 (unfortunately!!!). I have a total of 93 test/quiz pts in the grd book (not counting the one I just took and got 60% on). So far out of these 93 pts., I have gotten 81 (87.1 %) To have an A in the class, I need at least 93%
Roger, I would like to thank you for responding so fast! Really appreciate it!!!

Roger: No problem. Your quiz will drop your grade by 0.4*(81/ 93 - (81+6)/(93+10)) = 1.05%, which will put you at a ~92.75%. Now, if you get a 9/10 on the next quiz, it will increase your grade by ~1.4% since your test average is so low. Then, you can use the calculator to figure out what you need on the Final (depends a lot on what your current grade is after all your assignments are in). From the numbers you gave me, it looks like your Homework average is already very high, so another homework assignment will not help you much. Your best bet is a good quiz score (which will help quite a lot) and a decent Final grade. Good luck.

Hi Roger!
So I had an A (93.8%)in my class. I got a 60% percent on the last test. It is not in the grade book yet, so I don't know how it will affect my grade. What will it go down to?
Now, it is the end of the trimester. So far, the only assignments we have left are a 10 point quiz(40% of my grade), a 40 pt homework assignment (45%of my grade), and a 50 point final, (10 % of my grade)
I guess my question is, what do I have to get on these things to maintain an A in the class?
Thanks, I know its a lot to think about!

Roger: So, it sounds like your Tests and Quizzes are lumped together in a category that’s worth 40% of your grade correct? How many points was the last test worth? And how many points are in your Test category already? And what is your score in the Test category so far? One last question: What percentage do you need to get an A? 93? 90? 89.5? Post another comment and I’ll get back to you.

Hi Roger what will I need. On my next two test for a 85 or above average. I failed one test with 55 and my average is 71.58 Test are worth 60 % of. My grade.
Category Worth Average
Homework 10% 100
Classwork 5% -
Exams 60% 55
Lab 25% 100
Marking Period 1 Average:

Roger: Hi there. You were posting too many comments in succession and they got caught in the filters. Please just put one next time. So, to get a 85% average, you need a 75% in your “Exams” category. To get there, you need to average 85%’s on your next two tests.

(For the sake of simplicity, I assumed that you would get 100% in classwork and that your three tests were all equally weighted.)

Hi Roger,
In my school each quarter is 20% of your grade (4 quarters) and the midterm is 9% and final is 11%
Right now I have an 88 in chem as my overall grade, (91 in 1st quarter, 86 2nd quarter and 78 on the midterm) what do you think i'll have to get in 3rd and 4th quarters and final (minimum score) to get an A as my overall grade (92%).

Roger: You will need ~96% on the rest of your assignments to get it up to a 92%. Good luck.

Hi Roger! So, it is the start of 3rd quarter and I got a 70. What do i have to get on my next test to get at least a B? They are 90% of my grade.

Roger: So, let’s say that you have an equal amount of tests in each quarter. That means that you need at least 100% in your Tests in your 4th semester to raise 10%. That number might be higher or lower depending on your test average.

Hey Roger!

I have a 86.94 in AP Chem and we have one more big test left (the Tuesday after President's Day). I currently have a 79.2 in the test category and tests are worth 35 percent of our overall grade. I want to get it to an 88 to a 89 before the final exam. What will I need to get on this next text in order to bring my grade up to that range? In addition my past scores on tests/quizzes which count as one category were (100% - 13/13), (95%20/21), (81% - 82/101), (90% - 89/98), (61% - 29/47), and (65% - 54/82)

Thanks.

Roger: This depends partially on how much your one big test is worth. You have a 287/362 (79.2%) in your Tests, so that means you have a 91.11% in your non-Test categories. Now, put [91.11, (88 or 89), 35] into the Final Grade Calculator and notice that you need at least a 82.22% ~ 85.09% in your Tests category, depending on your target grade. Now, put in [79.2, (82.22 or 85.09), EXAM_WORTH] where the worth of your exam is equal to (1 - 362/(362 + how many points is your big test)). Let’s say that it’s 150 points, so your EXAM_WORTH would be 29.2%, and you would need 89.47% ~ 99.37% depending on your target grade. Now, let’s say that it’s 200 points, so your EXAM_WORTH would be 35.58%, and you would need 87.69% ~ 95.75% depending, again, on your target grade. I hope this helps.

tl;dr - You need ~88% to get a 88%, or a ~97% to get a 89%.

I have an 85% in a class, and tomorrow I have a test that is 100 points. My tests are worth 70% of my grade. What is the minimum I can get on the test tomorrow to bring my grade up to an A- (90%)

Roger: When you said you have a 93% in the class, does that include the “other assignment” that is worth half of your 20% grade? Either way, you need about a ~84% on the rest of your assignments.

I am wondering if you could help me find out what % I need to get for the upcoming midterms in order to get 82% in the course

Roger: You need a 90% average on them. Say you get a 92% on the 100 points and a 84% on the 150 points. So, that would be a 90%.
