My school takes 25% of my 1st quarter and 2nd quarter grades and takes 10% of my finals which will equal my 1st quarter grade. If I got a solid B each quarter and a 64% (Which I'm pretty sure is an F) on my midterm what will my ending grade be?

Roger: I don’t quite understand what you’re saying. Is your midterm grade also worth 10% of your total grade? The value of your two quarter grades, your midterm grade, and your final grade need to add up to 100%.

If you desperately need to get into an ivy, then yeah sure getting all As will help. Most of the time though it's a crapshoot, you could be the smartest kid in your school and not get into an ivy cuz you're a white dude who wants to study business and they don't need anymore white people studying business

i hate school so much. any love for school or learning i previously had is gone. i dont have a social life, i dont get sleep, and my grades are crap, even though i study a lot (which is why i have no social life or sleep). it seems like everyone around me gets good grades without even trying. hell, i heard some kid COMPLAINING because he got 107/110 on his test. i hate people like that. i hate to be ungrateful because i know that there are people literally having to fight for education while i'm out here getting one for free, but my mental health is suffering so much right now. i'm only a sophomore too, i have two more years left PLUS college. i have no IDEA how i'm gonna survive this.

How can I ace my math class? I am in Honors Algebra 2/ Trig but I got a B this semester. I have already gotten 4 B's (in Honors classes) in my high school career and I am only a sophomore. So, right now, I'm sitting at a 4.3 or 4.4 gpa. I think 4.3...

Will I ever get into Northwestern or UChicago or any good school?

How do I get that A? I will do anything... I just don't know what else to do besides practicing math...

I'm just anxious and scared. And, I didn't know where else to post this and get feedback.

Roger: I can tell you my method for taking math tests: First, I finish the problems as quickly as I can, without checking my work at all. Then, I do all the problems again, but I cover up my previous answers and make sure to do each of them with a different method (there are usually multiple ways you can solve the same problem). I check to make sure I got all the same answers as the first time through, or else I figure out why one of the answers is wrong (or maybe both of them are wrong!). Then, I go through the test and read every word of the test instructions and problem statements very carefully, because there’s usually always something that I misread (maybe the test asked for a different quantity or unit of measurement than what I assumed). Finally, if there’s any time left (usually there is), I close my test and close my eyes and distract myself. Sometimes, I’ll think of a different interpretation for one of the questions, and then I’ll go back to the test and redo it. (After taking a test, do you ever realize you made a dumb mistake? Relaxing during the test helps catch some of those cases! Some kinds of mistakes are really hard to notice when you’re focusing too much, so a little break goes a long way!) To summarize, do the test multiple times (three or four if you’re fast enough), take a break toward the end, and really read the instructions! This method might not work for everybody, but I’m able to eliminate all kinds of “accidental” mistakes with it. So, if I get anything wrong, it’s because I actually don’t know how to do the problem. To study for a test, I can focus on each of these steps individually: (1) fast problem solving, so I can do the test multiple times, (2) extra context, because knowing how to derive formulas and generalize problem types gives you multiple independent methods to solve problems, and (3) comprehensive coverage of the test material, so you’re aware of different interpretations and there isn’t problem that you don’t know how to solve. Follow these steps and you should be able to get 100% every time. Hope this helps!

Without knowing your current test average, I can still tell you that your test average must drop no more than 10.45 percentage points in order to maintain your A. So, let’s say your test average is a 84% (95/113). In that case, you’ll need to score at least a 60.3/98 (61.6%) on your final exam to get a 89.5% overall.
