Hello Roger, I'm in 7th grade and my mom told me that i have to get at least a 90 in my math class, or else my mom will take my dog away. I love my dog. If i have a 73 right now, and i have a math test on thursday, what will i need to get on that test to be able to keep my dog. The tests are worth 20% in the class by the way.

If my final is worth 200 points what percent do i have to get on the final to get an 80% in the class if my grade is at a 82.5%?

Roger: It depends on how many points you already have in your “Final/Large test” category. For example, if you already have 400 points in that category, then you’d need to score at least a 133/200 (66.5%) on your final exam to get an 80% overall. Also, your overall grade should be a 81.8%, not a 82.5%, according to your current category averages.

Hey I currently have an 85.63 in my AP psych class and i wanted to end with an A in the class. On the last test I got an 89.8 and my grade only went up by 1 percent. The tests are worth 40 percent of the grade and the final is worth 20 percent. I think there is only one.. or at max two tests left before the final. Will I be able to get my grade back to an A? If it is possible what do I need to score on each. My average is around 82 percent but on the last three tests i have gotten 90, 91, and 89.

Roger: The exact answer depends on how many tests you’ve taken so far. You said that your most recent test improved your overall grade by 1%. That means your test average must have improved by 2% (since 40% is half of your total grade, minus the 20% taken by the final exam). If your current test average is an 82%, then that means you must have only taken 5 tests so far. You’ve already mentioned your last 3 test grades. So that means you must have averaged a 69.6% between your first and second test. Does that sound right? I’ll also assume your average non-test grade is a 89.3%. So if you only have 1 test remaining, then you’ll need to average at least a 101.8% on your next test and final exam to raise your grade to a 90%. If you have 2 tests remaining, you’ll need to average at least a 99.0% on your 2 remaining tests and your final exam to raise your grade to a 90%. Hope this helps.
