Hi Rog!

I have a 62% in math right now and it's middle of the semester, whats the average mark I need to maintain to get at least a 70%. The class participation makes up 70% of the mark and 30% is for my exam. I'm pretty sure each test we do weighs about 15%.

Roger: Are you saying that 70% of your math grade is participation? That’s incredible. Anyway, if we estimate that you’ve completed 50% of your coursework so far, then you’ll need to average at least a 78% in your remaining exams and assignments to raise your overall grade to a 70%. Does that help?

Hey Rog,

Thanks for this. Been trying to get through a stats class all semester and I can finally relax knowing I just need to get about a 51% on it to pass the class. You rock.

Roger: You’re welcome!

hey roger,

so for my mid term I got a 80, and right after I got a 58 on my recent test (yeah...). is it still possible to get a 90 in the course, we are half way through the course. plzzz help

Roger: How much is your midterm worth? What’s your current grade? Have you taken any other tests?

Hi Roger, I had a 68% before this last test I took. I scored a 24% on it and my grade dropped to a 61%. My professor said if I score at least a 60% on the final I can retake the test I received a 24% on. If I somehow managed to get a 90-100 on the final, what would I have to get on the previous test to get a 70% in the class? By the way, tests are worth 50% of my grade altogether and we have had 5 of them. Final is worth 20% of my grade. I need at least a 70% to pass the class.

Roger: It’s somewhat hard to believe that your grade dropped from a 68% to a 61% because of just one exam. That means your test average dropped from an 80.0% to a 68.8%, and that you currently have a 48% average for the 30% of your grade left unaccounted for (homework? projects?). Does that sound correct? Anyway, if you get a 95% on your final exam, then that would bring your overall grade up to a 67.8% even before you retake your test. You would only need to score a 46% on your retake to raise your overall grade to a 70%. However, the numbers you provided sound unreasonable, so if you have more details or more questions, feel free to post a follow-up.

my teacher who is male said high to me in the hallway. hes a fucking rapist why the fuck does he think he can say hi to me without my consent. i legit could feel his breath penetrating me and the his speech as well were grabbing my private parts without consent. this is rape isnt it? i feel extremely violated and im emotionally broken. what do you think i should do roger?

Roger: The same thing happened to me once. At first, it started with “Hi”. Then it was “Why are you here?”, and then, “What the heck are you doing in my house?”. I don’t understand why I can’t just walk through people’s hallways without them yelling at me.

My final exam is optional. My grade is based off of categories
-Major Papers: 40% of Final Grade
paper 1: 81/100 (25% of Major Papers category)
paper 2: 98/100 (25% of Major Papers category)
paper 3: 90/100 (50% of Major Papers category)
-Annotated Bibliography: 20% Of Final Grade
annotated bibliography 99/100
-Written Homework Assignments: 10% of Final Grade
Homework 78/100
-In-Class Work: 10% of Final Grade
in class 85/100
-Participation: 10% of Final Grade
participation 90/100
-OPTIONAL Final Exam: 10% of Final Grade
not yet taken.

I just need to know what my final grade would be without taking the final, given the grades i have received so far.

Roger: Your overall grade should be a 90.0%.

i have a 65 average and i need a 70 average to pass. My sixs week grade is a 63. and finals are 25%. What grade would i need on my final exam to have a passing average of a 70? Or a 75?

Roger: Did you mean that your final exam is worth 25% of your “sixs week grade”? Or is your final exam worth 25% of your overall grade? How much is your “sixs week grade” worth, in comparison to your overall grade?

I have a 53 in English is there any possible way to bring this up in six weeks?

Roger: How far do you want to bring it up? You could probably bring it up to a 54% (or even a fair bit more than that).

@Skylie Mathews
Okay so while cruising on down this comment section I noticed your youthful stress, and I would just like to inform you that, if you live in America, grades do not matter until 8th grade. Of course it is a good idea to try and keep amazing grades but there is no need to stress right now. Reason being that most colleges don't look past 8th grade, sometimes even 8th grade, because before 8th grade you are only learning the basics while 8th grade to senior year you are learning more knowledge needed for actual work. Save that stress for the future and try your best now because trust me, whatever you are going through right now is nothing compared to AP courses in high school.

P.s. I don't know how to calculate your grade but depending on how small your assignment was it wouldn't affect you much (weight wise like 1/10 compared to a 1/100)

My professor calculated 59% as of now. I need atleast a 75%
My lecture exams are worth 2/3 of my grade 44% and 55% so far, lowest will be dropped and I have a final counted as an exam grade and about 8 quizzes, 2 lowest will be dropped and the average will be an exam grade.

Lab there are 3 exams worth 1/3 of my grade 50% 83% still need 1 more (none of these will be dropped) however. There are 8 quizzes with 2 lowest getting dropped and average. Being used as an exam grade.

What should I be getting on the other exams I have left?

Roger: So, the same 8 quizzes count as both a “lecture exam” grade and a “lab exam” grade? If your quiz average is lower than any of your lecture exams, can the 1 dropped exam be your quiz scores? (And likewise for your lab exams?) And what did you score on them?

I am at a 70% in my class now. Between the homework assignments (35%) participation (5%) and midterm exam (25%) gave me a 46.68 out of 48.34. To pass the class overall you must have a 65% c and above. How much will I need to pass the finals exam which is 35% of the grade.

Roger: Well, a 46.68 out of 48.34 is 96.6%. Is your overall grade a 70% or a 96.6%?

I have a C+, so 77%-79%, in my Spanish class.
I have a project that's worth 10% of my final grade.
I need at least a 70% to pass.
Whats the lowest I can get on my project?
Plz answer thank you

Roger: Assuming you have no more assignments left other than your project, you’ll need to score at least somewhere between a -11% to a 7% on your project to get a 70% overall (depending on your exact current overall grade).

Hello, I have a question that I really need an answer to. I'm in the 6th grade ( Middle School, 1st year ) and my whole life I've never gotten lower than a B in any of my report cards. I'm afraid that this year, that will be a possibility. I work hard and study but Math Extended is getting harder as the finals are near. On a test of 15 question I got 5 wrong ( Didn't get a letter grade- fml ) and my Interims said that I had an A, now I don't know my percentage so if I failed that test how low would my grade in Math go? I promised my parents I'd get straight A's. In Language Arts I had a B, but It's improved and now it's a 90%- A. My teacher told me that if I got a B it would knock my grade over down. I've worked hard and managed to get A's on my recent assignments, yet..I got a C on my one of my homework papers. What would be my grade? Thank you for taking the time to read my dumb ass questions that I could ask my teachers but I'm on spring break. Thank youuuuuuu.

Roger: Well, 10 out of 15 is a 66.7%. Your math grade will go down, but exactly how much depends on how your tests are factored into your overall grade. Did you get a syllabus at the beginning of the course? As for your language arts grade, your one “C” grade should be balanced out by many “A” grades of the same type and category. But the answer still depends on exactly how your homework grades are factored into your overall grade. Feel free to post a follow-up once you get more information.

Incorrect Grade?

In one of my classes, assignments are worth 40%, quizzes are worth 20%, and exams are worth 40%. My assignment average is 100%, my quiz average is 100% (the teacher lets us retake them until we get 100's), and we have only taken one exam on which I scored an 87.5%. By my math I should have a 95% in the class, but according to the online gradebook, I have a 77.5%. Isn't this mathematically impossible since I've never scored lower on anything than that 87.5%?

Roger: Without knowing all the details, I can’t say for sure. But It sounds like the most likely explanation is that you have 2 exams, each of which counts for 20% of your overall grade. You scored a 87.5% on the first exam, but because you haven’t taken the 2nd exam yet, it counts as a “0” grade in your gradebook. If you compute 40%×100% + 20%×100% + 20%×87.5%, you should get 77.5% as your answer. However, your true grade should be a 95% (like you said). Once you take your 2nd exam, your grade should be fixed.

My course requires a 65% to pass.
It is made up of 4 assignments worth 15% each. The final exam is worth 40%.
Assignment 1= 96%
Assignment 2= 96%
Assignment 3= 99%
Assignment 4= 99%
Final consists of 175 questions and worrh 40%.

What do I need to score out of 175 in order to pass the course?

Thank you

Roger: Your current overall grade is a 97.5%. You’ll need to score at least a 16.3% (29/175) on your final exam to get a 65% overall.

Quiz Average: 100%. Quizzes are 15 percent
Three tests: 87, 81, 65. All worth 20 percent
The final is worth 25%.
What do I need to get a 79.5?

Roger: Your current overall grade should be a 82.1%. You’ll need to score at least a 71.6% on your final to get a 79.5% overall.

My class is made up of a total of three grades. Class participation(10%), research project and presentation(15%), and final exam(65%). If the class participation grades are 100% what do I need on final to get a 90?

Roger: Your categories only add up to 90%. What’s the remaining 10% of your grade? Also, what are you planning to score in your “research project and presentation” category?

Hi Roger, I have a 93.77 in AP chemistry and we have one more test to go which I think I did really badly on. We've taken 4 tests this semester, which are normally worth 60-80 points, but this one is only worth 35-40. Do you think I can keep my A even if I get a D on it?

Roger: Do you have any assignments aside from tests? If not, then your overall grade should drop to between a 88.9% and a 91.3%, depending on exactly how many points each of your tests is worth and exactly what kind of D you scored. If you have other assignments, then I need to know what you scored on those and how much they’re worth.

Hi Roger,

If I have four major tests that are worth 60% of my grade and I've taken three (62, 52, 42) and I have one left I haven't taken, plus a final that's worth 25% of my grade that can also replace my lowest test grade, what's the lowest I can make on the final to get an overall 70 in the class. I have a 61 right now.

Roger: What’s the remaining 15% of your grade made of? Also, have you tried the option labeled “I need something else” on the calculator? It should be able to address your question.
