I currently have a 84.69 in math and I am trying to get at least a 90 for an A in the class. My final is worth 20% and it also replaces my lowest test grade. What would I have to make in order to get an A in the class?

Roger: It depends on (1) how much your tests are worth, (2) how many tests you’ve taken so far, (3) your current test average, and (4) what your lowest test grade is. By the way, have you tried the new calculator option labeled “Something else”? I created it specifically to answer questions like yours. Tell the calculator that (1) your lowest test grade is dropped and (2) your final counts as 1 test grade, and it should be able to answer your question.

I currently have a 74.93% average on my English class I still need a Research Paper to complete which counts 20% of the total grades what grade do I need to get to boost up my average to an 80%?

Roger: It depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. For example, if your “74.93%” overall grade represents 55% of your total coursework, then you’ll need to score at least a 93.9% on your research paper to raise your overall grade to an 80%.

My psychology grade is a 97.93, and my exam is 45% of my grade, but it counts twice. I would like to at least get a 90 or a 89.5 (so that it rounds up). Whats the lowest I can get?

Roger: The answer depends on (1) your current exam average, and (2) how many exams you’ve taken so far. By the way, try out the calculator option labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

Hello,
My current grade is 60.91%.
My final is worth 35%
And participation is worth 5%
I'm sure I'll get 100% cause I've done all my work and showed up to class. After participation is counted, what do I need to get on my final to pass with a 60?

Roger: Assuming the remaining 60% of your grade is already accounted for, your overall grade should rise to a 63.9% once your participation is included. Then, you’ll need to score at least a 52.7% on your final exam to get a 60% overall.

Rodger,
In English we have reading points. Our teacher said it is worth 100 points. I have a 95 in that class. What do I need to keep at least a B in that class? Please get back to me I will be checking the cite.

Thanks!

Roger: It depends on how many points you have total. Are your reading points in their own category? Or is your grade made up of just one big pool of points?

Qwerty,

You would need a 109% on the final. But real question is why are you even stressing over having a 99 in AP Chem

I have a 99% in AP Chemistry, my final is worth 10% of my grade, what do i need to get a 100 in the class? (Our final is AP curved so getting over a 100 is possible).

Roger: You’ll need to score at least a 109% on your final exam to raise your overall grade to 100%.

Hi Roger,

I have a 78.9% in my APUSH class right now. The quiz category is worth 15% of the grade and I have a 70.55% in that category. But, my teacher lets us drop 3 of our lowest quizzes and when I drop the 3 lowest, the quiz category grade will raise to 75.3%. Will this rise of my quiz category grade be enough to get me an 80% in the class?

Thanks

Roger: The answer depends on whether you have any empty categories in your grade (like a “final exam” category that has no score yet). If you don’t have any empty categories, your overall grade should go up by 0.713 percentage points to a 79.6%.

My Algebra 2 EoC is worth 20% of my grade and I need about a 71% to keep an A in the class. The thing about the EoC is that you get the highest letter grade. So in my case if I get a D I will still get a higher than a 71%. It's litttt

HI Roger. I need your help. I need to know what I need to get on my final to get at least a 90% in the class.

Attendance is worth 5% of our grade
I got a 100 out of 100

Participation is worth 5% of our grade
I got a 90 out of 100

Fitness Testing is worth 30% of our grade
I got a 60 out of 100

Worksheets are worth 20% of our grade
worksheet #1= 100
worksheet#2= 100
worksheet#3= 100

Assessments are worth 20% of our grade
Assessment#1= 80 out of 100
Assessment#2=73 out of 100
Assessment#3=100
Assessment#4=86 out of 100
Assessment#5=60 out of 100

The final is exam is worth 20% of our grade and it is worth 100 points. I currently have an 86.45 in the class, so what do I need to get on my final in order to pass the class with a 90%?? PLEASE get back to me ASAP! Thank you so much!

Roger: Based on your individual categories, your overall grade should be a 79.3%, not a 86.45%. If your overall grade actually is an 86.45%, then you’ll need to score at least a 104.2% on your final exam to raise your overall grade to a 90%.

Hi Rodger, I have a 60 % average in my pharmacology class the chapter tests are 50% which I have not been doing so well( I retook some of them) the assignments are 10 % which I have been passing. I had two finals to take one was a D which is 15% the first time I did not do so well but I retook it again and the Final I passed with a 71 % will i still be able to pass with a C? if I got an A on the other exam that I had to take.

Roger: Which of those grades does your “60%” average already include? What’s this “other exam” that you had to take? What’s the minimum percentage grade required for a C?

I don't know for sure, but my final exam belongs in the test/exam category which, again, is worth 60% of my entire class grade, and my final alone is worth 20% of my overall class grade, so I think that means the rest of the categories are diluted in weight? I don't really know, but as far as I can understand from my syllabus for the class, it goes into the test/exam category and is not an additional category on its own, but alone is still worth 20% of my whole grade. That's really confusing :P

As for my 4 categories impacting my grade, I don't know my average in each but I think the ones impacting my grade the most negatively are my lab category, quiz category, and my test category. These go like this:

Lab 1: 50%
Lab 2: 0% (missing assignment that I now cannot make up)
Lab 3: 94%
Lab 4: 88%
Lab 5: 100%
Lab 6: 96%
There will be one more lab coming up.

Quiz 1: 71%
Quiz 2: 60%
Quiz 3: 55%
Quiz 4: 55%
Quiz 5: 76%
Quiz 6: 84%
Quiz 7: 92%
There will be at least one more quiz coming up.

Test 1: 78%
Test 2: 74%
Test 3: 68%
Test 4: 72%
The only thing coming up going into this category is my final, which, again, alone is worth 20% of my whole class grade.

Roger: Well, your lab average is a 71.3%. Your quiz average is a 70.4%. And your test average is a 73.0%. It sounds like your 4 tests are actually worth 40% of your grade and your final exam is worth an additional 20%. If your overall grade is a 72%, then your homework average must be around a 68.9%. Does that sound right? If so, you’ll need to average at least a 105.9% on your last lab, last quiz, and final exam to raise your grade to an 80%.

Hey Roger,

I currently have an 88 in a class and need at least an 89.56 for it to round to an A. I have a final which counts as 20% left and the final can replace my lowest test grade. My quiz average is a 90.3 which counts as 15% of my grade, my homework average is a 100 which counts as 5% of my grade, and my test average is a 86.375 which counts as 60% of my grade. My lowest test grade is a 74. What do I need to get on the final?

Roger: The answer depends on how many tests you’ve taken so far. By the way, have you tried the new calculator option labeled “I need something else”? It should be able to answer your question. Make sure you tell the calculator that (1) all your tests are worth an equal fraction of your tests category, (2) your lowest test grade is dropped, and (3) your final counts as 1 test.

Hello Roger,

I currently have a 82.7% in my business for calculus class. I want at least a 70% in the class. My final is worth 25% of my grade. Tests are worth 45%, Labs are worth 15%, and Quizzes are worth 15%. My lowest Test, Lab, and Quiz are dropped. I still have two more Tests, two more labs, and one more quiz before my final exam (May 24, 2017). Here are my total scores this semester for this class so far:
Tests (45%):
Test #1 - 82/100
Test #2 - 92/100
Test #3 - 46/100 (dropped as of right now)
Test #4 - ?/100 (Not Yet Taken)
Test #5 - ?/100 (Not Yet Taken)
Total ---- 220/300
Labs (15%):
Lab #1 - 95/100
Lab #2 - 90/100
Lab #3 - 80/100
Lab #4 - 92/100
Lab #5 - ?/100 (Not Yet Graded)
Total ---- 357/400
Quizzes (15%):
Quiz #1 - 57/100
Quiz #2 - 73/100
Quiz #3 - 47/100
Quiz #4 - 57/100
Quiz #5 - 72/100
Quiz #6 - 57/100
Quiz #7 - 83/100
Quiz #8 - 47/100 (Dropped as of right now)
Quiz #9 - ?/100 (Not Yet Taken)
Total ---- 493/800
Final Exam (25%):
Final Exam - Not Yet Taken
Total ---- ?/100

Please get back to me as soon as you can, Roger! Thank you so much.

Roger: Try using the calculator option labeled “I need something else”. I made it specifically to answer questions exactly like yours. I put your numbers into the calculator and it says you need to average at least a 59.86% on your final, your next 2 tests, your next 2 labs, and your last quiz to get a 70% overall. Keep in mind that since your lowest lab grade so far (80%) is higher than a 59.86%, you can essentially score anything you want on one of your remaining labs, as long as you score a 59.86% on all the other aforementioned assignments. (I double-checked this answer myself, and it looks correct to me.)

Replying to your response from my last comment (thank you by the way),

My final exam alone is worth 20% of my grade.

In the next 3 weeks, I have mostly a few homework assignments (worth 10%), one or two quizzes (worth 10%), and a lab (worth 20%). I'm not sure if I have another test coming up (worth 60%) but I highly doubt it.

Otherwise, I'm not really sure how my final grade is calculated...

Roger: Your homework, quizzes, lab, and tests categories add up to 100%. Since your final exam is worth an additional 20%, does that mean your other categories are diluted in weight to 80% of your overall grade? Anyway, if you already have a high average grade in your homework, quizzes, labs, and/or tests category, then it’ll be difficult to use additional grades in those categories to raise your overall grade. Relying on your final exam alone, you’d need to score at least a 112.0% in order to raise your overall grade to a 80%. Do you know your average grade in each of those 4 categories? Which one of them is causing the most negative impact on your overall grade?

JD
Thu, 27 Apr 2017 22:22:31 GMT

My math class has 6 tests worth 100 pints each. My final is worth 200 points.
Test 1 - 150%
Test 2 - 177%
Test 3 - 150%
Test 4 - 167%
Test 5 - 150%
(I got a lot of extra credit)

What grade do I need on my final to get an A in the class (90%)

Roger: Is your final exam your 6th test? Or did you forget to list your 6th test score? I’ll assume you only have 5 tests, plus your final exam. In that case, your current overall grade is a 158.8%. You’ll need to score at least a -164.0/200 (-82%) on your final exam to get a 90% overall.

Julie
Thu, 27 Apr 2017 21:26:31 GMT

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what I need to get on my final. I took my last test (of 4) today and completely bombed it. My final is worth 200/750 pts so that makes it 27% (rounded up) of my grade. I made a 79%, 84%, and 65% on my other tests but I don't have my score for today's back yet. My final also replaces my lowest non zero test score and I'm sure that the final will be replacing today's test. Tests are worth 53% total (400/750). I'm currently sitting at 83% in the class as it stands right now without today's score. I want to finish with at least 80 to get a B if possible. What will I have to score on my final to make this happen?

Roger: Well, your test average is currently a 76%. How do you know you have an 83% overall grade? If your tests are worth 400 points and your final exam is worth 200 points, then I assume you have a “homework/classwork” category that’s worth 150 points? Since you said your overall grade is 83%, that would mean your homework/classwork category average is a 145.5/150 (97%), assuming each of your 3 tests is worth 100 points. And since your final exam will replace your 4th test grade, it’s effectively worth 300 points (40%). So in order to get an 80% overall, you’ll need to score at least a 226.5/300 (75.5%) on your final exam.
