Hey roger i have 60% in a class and i want a 51, and its worth 20%, and it says i need like 25% in the exam. i find it not accurate because my tutor said i needed 40 % to pass the year. is she just trying to scare me?

Roger: I would listen to your tutor. It’s possible that you misunderstand how your class is graded, and that your tutor knows something you don’t. Also, if you used my calculator with [60, 51, 20], you should get 15% as the result, not 25%. Please verify that you’re using the calculator correctly.

So for math we had an in-class final and a provincial. the way it works is say you did better on the in-class final, my teacher would average the two marks which would mean they are worth 7.5% each. If i did better on the provincial, he drops the in-class final making the provincial worth 15%. Before the in class final, i had an 89.18 and on the in class final i got 98. What do i need to get on my provincial in order for my overall grade to be at least an 85?

Roger: You need at least a 24.52%.

Hi, how does the weighted grade part affect the score if the weights are going to change after the final is put in? I.e. if tests are weighted 50% now, but after the final will only be 30%, would that still be factored into this algorithm? Thanks!

Roger: Why would tests be 50% now but only 30% after the Final? It sounds like your final is worth 40% correct? If so, then yes, everything is accounted for in the calculator.

Hi,
I want to know what I need to get on my final to have an A in the class (93%). Tests and Quizzes are 40% of my grade, the final is 170 points and there are 507 points in the test and quiz category not including the final. My average in the test and quiz category is 88.9 and my grade overall is a 93.95. Thanks!

Roger: 79.44%. You can get to this answer by using the option labeled “My final counts as a test” and using [93.95, 93, 40, 507, 88.9, 170] as your inputs.

If I get a 20 on my final exam and its worth 10 percent what my final grade when my final grade now is an 84

Roger: There are 2 unknowns, so I can’t give you an answer. You need to specify either what your grade was before the Final, or what you got on the Final exam.

Hello R,
I want to know what my grade of all my courses together give me...
MA:79%
LA:72%
SS:77%
SC:80%
Rel:80%
PH:93%
Ma, LA, SS, SC, and Rel are all only 70% of the course, I havn't taken the final exam yet...
What do I need to get on my 5 Final Exams to get my overall notof all my courses at 85%?

In what category (not including my final) would extra credit help me most in. Hope you can respond in 2 days. Also I cannot exceed 100% in any category. The E/C is worth 30 pts.

Hi Roger! I'm kind of an awful student. This class I'm taking has all class work, including quizzes, scored out of 60 and the exam is worth 40. I got 39.52/60 for classwork and quizzes combined, so what percent do I need to get on the exam, which has 100 questions, to get an aggregate score of 50% and pass? Thank you in advance!

Roger: Hi Janet. If you don’t take the final, your overall grade will be 47.27%.

In reply to LLORT, you will need a 95% on the final to get a 93 in the class. i simply calculated your current grade if you get a 0 for participation by trial and error which brought you down to a 91%. Then i just did the basic calculation (current grade:91%, you want at least a: 93%, counts for 50% of grade) and it turns out you need a 95%. However to keep an A you only need an 89% on your final!

Roger: Actually, since the 50% final isn’t yet counted in the grade, the 0 in participation would have a relative weight of 0.20, which would bring llort’s overall grade to a 0.8*101.27 + .2*0 = 81.02%.

I have a 101.27% in linear algebra and the final is worth 50% of our grade. I skipped too many of the lessons and now the professor is going to give me a 0 in the participation category of our grade, which is worth 10% of our total grade. What do I need on the final to get at least a 93%?

Roger: Congrats on the A+ in linear algebra. Anyway, you’ll need a 104.94% on the final to bring it back up to a 93% :/

You should make a calculator that can tell you your highest possible grade if you receive 100% on the final. That'd be great!

Roger: Hi Sarina, you can do this by choosing “Already took the final. What is my overall grade?” and using 100% as the grade that you scored on the final.

I have a 96% in my class. My final is worth 20% of my final grade, but it is in two parts. Part 1: 100 points Part2: 50 points. The total amount of points (I don't know if this is relevant) is 445 and I have 435 of the total 445 points. What do I need to get on the 50 point part if I get a 90% on the 100 point part in order to have my final grade a 95%? (If that even makes any sense!)

Roger: Hi there. There is a “There are 2+ parts to my final” option that fits your situation perfectly. Let me know if you need any help with it. (It will tell you that you need a 93%.)

So i have an english teacher that has a weighted scale
Vocab. tests - 94.80% (493/520) worth 15% of grade
Vocab. midterm and final - 97.96% (386/394) worth 10% of grade
Grammar homework - 100.00% (225/225) worth 10% of grade
Grammar tests - 98.40% (431/438) worth 10% of grade
Oral Presentations - 88.75% (71/80) worth 15% of grade
Reading Tests and Unit Exams - 90.24% (564/625) worth 15% of grade
Writing Assignments - 84.51% (131/155) worth 20% of grade
Other - 100.00% (42/42) worth 5% of grade

so if an essay was worth 100 pts. and i have a 92.66%, what would be the minimum i need to get in order to be at least 89.5% or above??

Roger: I’m guessing the essay goes into your Writing Assignments category. You need at least a 44.22% on the essay.

Roger: Ahh, good question. Extra credit would be most useful in your 26/30 category worth 17.6% of your grade. Every 5.28 points of extra credit in that category would boost your overall grade by 1%. The runner up is your 60 point category worth 11.8% where you’d need 7.08 points of E/C to boost your grade 1%.

Hello, I had a 90.1 in one of my classes, and in order to get it up to a 92.5, the calculator said I needed to get at least a 102.73 on my exam, which was worth 19%. I did end up getting a 102 on my exam, but my grade only went up to a 91.2. Would it really have made that much of a difference if I had those extra .73 points?

Roger: No it wouldn’t have made a big difference. It sounds like your grade was not actually worth 19%, or that your “current grade” changed after you last checked it. Your final grade should have been .901 × .81 + 1.02 × .19 = 92.36%.

Total Grade after exam: ?
