Hi,

I have a 77.3% in my Math 126 class and i'm almost certain i'm going to fail the midterm. My midterm is worth 100 points. Each quiz is worth 20 points. I've taken only 8 of the 15 quizzes. My final is also worth 100 points. If i completely bomb the final and the midterm and pass the rest of the quizzes with a grade above 70% what will be my final grade in the class. Keep in mind that my two lowest scores will be dropped at the end of the year. So, far my two lowest scores are a 56% and a 58%. Every other quiz score is above a 70%.

Roger: Let’s say you get a 50% on your midterm. Then, your current grade would be a 66.8%. Does that help?

So I have 87.7 and I need 89.4 for an A-
My final is 20% of my grade
My final is 250 points
Wat do I need on my final to get an 89.4 in the class

Roger: You need 241/250 (96.2%) on the final to get a 89.4% in the class.

Roger, i have an 85% in Chem. What should i get on my next two test to get an A in the class, Test are worth 70% and quizzes are worth 20% and 10% is the final. I average about an 78% on the tests and about 93% on the quizzes. Assuming that my quiz average stays at a steady rate of an 93%

Roger: Hi there. It depends on how many tests you have taken so far. (By the way, the calculator can do this for you. There’s an option for exactly this.)

I have always been on the high honor roll but lately I have been having trouble in my math class and have about a 50% in the class. Tests are worth 90%, quizzes 5% and homework 5%. I want to raise my grade to at least a 70%, how much would I have to get on my next test? Or if it's over a hundred, how many tests would I have to take until I get it to a 70? Half way through the semester is next week, if that helps anything. The next test will be our 3rd test of the semester as well. Thank you in advance!

Roger: Hi AJ. It depends on your current test average. Can you provide that?

Hi Roger,
This is unrelated to finals but,
I have a 92% in a class and I recently got a 33% on a quiz,
and quizzes are worth 30% of our grade and my quiz average right now is 85.89 and we've taken 4 quizzes so far. My scores were 100, 100, 100, 81.25! How much will this make my grade drop? All the other categories we have, I have a 100 in.
Our categories are worth
classwork 20% i have 100% here
participation 10% i have 100% here
project/labs 25% n/a
quizzes 30% 85.95
final 15% n/a

Roger: It doesn’t look like your quizzes are all worth the same amount, since your quiz average should be a 95.3% otherwise. I can’t give you an exact answer, but your 33% quiz grade will drop your grade to approximately a 88.9%.

Roger: What grade do you need to pass the class?

Hi Roger,

In my english class, my overall grade is like a 87.89 or something around that range. I just got a 56 on a test. Tests count around 50% of our grade. Can you please tell me what my new overall grade will be and please hurry as my Quarter 3 report card is coming out on friday.

Roger: That depends on how many tests you’ve taken so far, as well as your current test average.

I took a quiz in class today and got a zero. We've taken 3 other quizzes, so this is the fourth. My average in quizzes is an 89.47%. Quizzes are worth 20% of my grade. I have an 81% in the class. How bad will the zero affect my grade?

Roger: It will bring your grade down to a 76.5%, assuming that you have no undetermined categories.

I have an 89.2 in Math. we have taken 3 tests so far. each one is worth 100 points, and the lowest one is dropped, which is a 72 out of 100. overall, excluding tests, there are 370 points availible. (i have 367.5 out of 370). my tests grades are 72, 88, and 93. what do i need to get on my final (10%) if she drops one of the tests after the final?

Roger: It sounds like your tests are worth 60% and your homework/classwork is worth 30%. I’ll assume that’s true. If so, you’ll have a 93.44% overall after your lowest test is dropped. To get a 90% overall, you need at least a 59% on the final exam.

I have a project that's 35 pts, and project are 50% of my grade. I have 100% in the class, but how many pts do I need to earn to have at the very least an 80% in the class?

Roger: I’ll assume that you have no other projects. If so, then you need at least a 21/35 (60%) on your project to get a 80% in the class. If you do have other projects and your project average is 100%, then you would need even less than that.

Hello I was the one asking from yesterday and my average test/quiz grade is an A or A-

Roger: The information you gave me is too vague. Conservatively, it sounds like you need around a 90% to keep your 93% overall. That’s the best estimate I can provide.

I just got a 70 % on a mid term it was worth 20% of overall grade. My starting grade was a 82.5. The mid term knocked my grade down to a 76 %. Is that right? We have one exam worth 15% and the final worth 30%. Will it even be possible to get it back up to 80%

Roger: That’s right. Since there is still 45% of your grade that is undetermined, your midterm is actually worth 20/55 (36%) of your current grade, which is substantially more than just 20%. To get a 80% overall, you will need to average at least an 84.9% on your remaining exam and final.

I have a 95% in my class that is probably going to drop to a 94% or 93% due to my last test. At my school tests and quizzes are worth 80% of our grade. I have a final coming up and it's 100 points total. All other tests and quizzes add to about 235 points. If I want to keep a 93% what do I need to get on the final? THANK YOU SO MUCH

Roger: Hi there. It depends on your current test/quizzes average. Could you provide that?

Hello, just came by this site today, so I am going crazy trying to figure out this grading style of curved grading. I have taken a quiz which gave me a B- and a midterm that got me a C. Using these two letters what is the grade I have in the course if we combine these. The percents are based on the curve so they dont help when im trying to use my calculator. Thanks

Roger: Well, if you combine a B- and a C, I’d imagine that the total grade is around a C+. I suggest you ask your teacher/professor for more helpful answers. :/

Need 78% to pass the class; would love to pass with 82%. Can you tell me what I have to get on the remanding tests?
test 1 (15.3%) - 70.8%
test 2 (19.1%) - 78.3%
test 3 (20.4%) -
test 4 (19.1%) -
c test (1.6%) - 100%
final (24.5) -

Roger: You need to average at least an 85.3% on the remaining tests to get a 82% overall. To get a 78% overall, you need to average at least a 79% on the remaining tests.

My class is worth 115% I currently have a 90% I have 2 tests left both worth 20%each what do I need to get on each to maintain an 80% min

Roger: What do you mean by “My class is worth 115%”? I’ll ignore that part. If you have 2 tests left that are worth 20% each, you need at least a 65% average on them to get a 80% overall.

Hey Roger, I have a question, I have a C- (79.5%) in Algebra and we took one test which is 50% of our grade and I got a really low D (76%) I have an upcoming test how much do I need to get on the test for at least a B- (90%)

Roger: I’ll assume that you meant that your Test Category is worth 50%. If so, how many tests have you taken so far? And what is your test average?

Hello Roger, I just had my first math test and I'm pretty sure that I bombed it. I think i'm sitting on a 50% right now with 4 more tests to go till midterm and a project worth 21%. Im an average math student,Is an 85% on my midterm mark a realistic/attainable goal? Thank you for everything.

If I have 87.7 % in class and I want 89.4
I have taken 15 test and quizzes so far. Test and quizzes are worth 60% of my grade. I have a 81% in the tests and quizzes category. In this trimester I have a test wort 80 points and two quizzes each worth 30 points. If I got A on all 3 can I bring my grade up to a 89.4?

Roger: You need to bring your test/quiz average up to a 83.8%, so it depends how well you score on those quizzes and the test.

hi , my coursework was out of 25% but i got 35%, what does this mean? and my examination is out of 75%, so does this mean i only need 65% to pass as i got 10% above in my coursework.

Roger: I’m going to assume that you need a 75% overall to pass. If you got a 35/25 on your coursework section, which is worth 25%, then you only need a 53.3% (40/75) on the examination section to pass.

Hi! I need a 3.0 in my current math class to skip the next math level and remain on track for additional classes which are very much dependent on this grade! Tests are 65%. Homework, attendance, etc.) is 10% (in this, I have 100%) The Final is 25%.
Tests so far are: 100%, 81.3% 81.3% 95%, 87.5%. Am I at a 3.0?
If I maintain the current average, what score do I need to get on on my Final? Thank You!

Roger: I’ll assume that a 3.0 is an 80%. Your test average is a 89%, so your current overall grade is a 90.5%. To get at least an 80% overall, you need at least a 48.5% on the final exam.

Hello I want to know what my final grade will be but I had a 93 and I got a 75 on it and it is worth 30% of my grade and my grade went down to a 85 and with extra credit the test turned to a 90 and I would like to know what I would get on my report card and I would like over a 95

Roger: Your numbers don’t match up. It sounds like your grade should have went down to a 87.6%, not a 85%. I’ll assume that it went down to a 85%. If so, your final grade would be a 89.5%.
