Why do I fail all year just to have failure smeared into my face at the end of the semester. I know I am not going anywhere in life, not even community college accepted me. I've had some bad run ins but I have really turned my life around in the last 3 months. I just want to pass high school this year.

The themes that are under analysis in this essay are from the books Unwind, The Hunger Games, Uglies, and the short story Examination Day. Dystopian novels usually share themes or plotlines, often having something to do with overthrowing the government or teenagers fighting against a corrupt society, be it physically or verbally. The themes that overlap throughout the books that I selected have to do with death, and the decision to kill -- or unwind -- someone. The three themes that I feel exist throughout these stories are: if you don't fit in with societies ideals, then you are to be killed - people decide if you live or die based on your worth - people don't care about your worth when they decide whether you live or die.

Roger: Does the intro need to start with naming the books? I think it makes more sense at the end of the paragraph. I’m not sure how your second sentence ties in to your thesis. The whole paragraph is altogether very verbose. Consider making it more concise (turn those sentence fragments into nouns) in order to leave room to explain in greater detail how the properties of dystopian novels (individuals versus the collective, utilitarianism versus empathy) lend themselves to similar themes.

Roger: If you haven’t taken either half of your final yet, then it makes no difference. Think of it as a single long multi-day exam, where each day counts for half of your total exam grade and the exam is worth 20% altogether.
