I made up this math problem, I want to see if you can answer it. It's about grades, which I know you're awesome with because you made this calculator!

Here it is:
Billy gets a 0% on his first assignment. What is the MINIMUM number of assignments he has to do for him to get an average of a number that when rounded to the nearest whole percentage equals 100%? Whole percents mean 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, ... 100%.
Info:
-We are assuming that he gets all 100's on the rest of his assignments.
-The answer for the number of assignments does NOT include the 0% from his first assignment. However, it is still a part of his grade.
-There can be an unlimited number of assignments in Billy's class.
-All assignments have the same weight in his grade.

Roger: Sure. That’s just n/(n + 1) = 99.5%. You can easily simplify that to 1/(n + 1) = 0.5%, which means n must be 199.

I have a 90 in human geo, but i need a 93. Tests are worth 25% and homework and quizzes are worth 15% separately. Projects are worth 20% and the final exam is worth 25%. I have about 3 more tests, 1 project, 1 final exam, and a couple more quizzes. What do I need to get on each of them?

Roger: Is your research paper worth 50% of your grade by itself? Or is it part of a “research papers” category that’s altogether worth 50% of your grade? What’s the rest of your grade made of?

I currently have a 0 for a test grade because I have not taken it. I currently have a 67 because of it. I also have taken 2 tests so far and got an 88 and an 80. How much do I need to get on the test to make it go up to an 80? My test grades are worth 60%

Roger: I’ll assume you have an empty “final exam” category that’s worth 20% of your overall grade (because that means you’d have scored 100% on the remainder of your grade). In that case, you’ll need to score at least a 52.0% on your test to raise your overall grade to an 80.0%.

so I have 4 categories for my math grade, 20% quizzes, 10% homework, 50% tests, 20% final exam, Im taking the AP exam for my class so I don't have to take the final and then it only adds up to 80%, how does the 20% distribute to the rest of my grade then so it adds up to 100% then? Thanks Roger.

Roger: I’d assume that each category is now worth 125% of its original weight (e.g. the multiplicative inverse of 80%). That means your grade would be 25% quizzes, 12.5% homework, and 62.5% tests.
