Roger, Is there a way you can explain this with an example?
Middle school courses require a district semester exam or a state EOC exam, with the exception of Career Research and Decision Making and specialized electives. Weighting of semester exams is specific to the course and ranges from 15% to 30%.
EOC exams are state mandated for students enrolled in Civics, Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors, Geometry Honors, and Biology. In accordance with the state statute, the EOC exam grade equals 30% of the semester grade.
The semester grade is calculated by converting the two quarter grades and the exam grade to quality points, which are weighted and averaged.
In order to pass a middle school semester course that requires an exam, students must meet the following criteria:
• the weighted average of the two quarter grades and the district scaled semester exam must be greater than or equal to a 0.5 on a four-point scale; and
• at least one of the quarter grades must be a D or higher (refer to the grade calculation chart).
In order to pass a middle school semester course that does not require an exam, students must earn a minimum of two quality points.
Middle School Students Enrolled in High School Credit Courses
Grades earned for high school credit courses are included in the student’s high school grade point average (GPA) and appear on the high school transcript.
Students may increase their high school cumulative, weighted district GPA through honors level c
Roger: The last two lines seem irrelevant, and this seems to be missing an explanation of what “quality points” are. It sounds like each course decides how much its semester exam is worth (somewhere between 15% and 30%), and the remainder of the semester grade is split evenly between the two quarter grades. In order to pass, you need to average at least a 0.5 (halfway between a D and F... so 55%?) and you need to earn a D in at least one quarter. For example, let’s say your semester exam is worth 30% of your semester grade. That means your two quarter grades are each worth 35% (e.g. half of 70%) of your semester grade. If you score 65% in your first quarter, 45% in your second quarter, and 60% on your semester exam, then your semester grade should be 56.5%, which meets both requirements.

I have a 37% in math. I NEED to get an 80%. Is it possible to get an 80% within two weeks, considering all the assessments during these 2 weeks? Also is it possible to get an 80% within 2 months, also considering all the assessments during the 2 months?
Roger: Sounds unlikely. How much of your coursework have you completed so far?

Roger: Each one can’t be worth 35% of your grade, because that adds up to 105%. Did you mean that your three assignments are part of a category that, along with other such assignments, is altogether worth 35% of your grade?

I had a 84 my first semester of math and i really need an a in this class, what grade do i need to make this semester to bring it up to a 90? Thanks!
Roger: Assuming that each semester is worth half of your overall grade, you’ll need to score at least a 96.0% in your 2nd semester to get a 90.0% overall.

Hi Roger! I was wondering if you have ever taken an interest in metaphysics and/or string theory and how they relate to spiritual enlightenment. Have you any theories on the origin of consciousness? Do you agree or disagree with the holographic reality theory? I apologize if this seems entirely too random, but I figured the worst that can happen is a lack of response.
Roger: Nope. No idea (just another emergent property?). Never heard of that one.
