Hey everyone, I just wanted to thank all of you for using my website and having its popularity increase everyday. Unfortunately, I won't have the time to update this site anymore because I got an internship at Quizlet. Starting June 16th, I am closing the website down because I will have too much on my hands. I hope all of you do great on your finals and have a good summer.

Roger: Nice try..

Roger, if my Advanced Chem class has 5 different categories, some with 20% and some with 10% and I have an 82% right now overall, what would I need on my final to not dip below 69%?

Roger: Well, that depends on how much your final is worth.

My test average is 86.94% and my homework average is 97.03%.

Roger: You will need to average a 95.0% on your remaining quiz and test to get a 90% overall. (This average is weighted in favor of the test, of course.)

If I have an 89% in my class, and the final is worth 12%, what's the lowest grade I can get to receive a B in the class and to receive a B+? Thanks

Roger: What percentage is a B? What percentage is a B+?

Dear Roger,
I have a 80 in my chem class.
I got a 50%, 92%, 82%, and a 64% on my tests. (Tests are worth 40% of my grade and classwork is 35%, HW is 15%, and the final is 10%.)
I have a 40 point, 70 point, and 30 point test left.
If i get 100 on the other categories, what do I need to get on the the next tests to get at least a 90?

Roger: That depends on how many points your previous tests were worth.

I got a 30/60, 69/75, and 57.5/70 on the three past tests.

Roger: It sounds like you currently have a 80/90 in your chem class, not an 80%. (Let me know if that sounds wrong.) Also, you didn’t mention if you wanted me to take your final into consideration, so I will ignore it now and assume that you want an overall grade of 81/90 (90%). If so, you’ll need to average at least a 79.19% on your next 3 tests to get a 90% before the final.

Um I know that I have an 80. I asked my teacher and she said I would have to get an 85 on the next tests. I have a notebook grade that I think is the equivalent to 3 test grades, that will theoretically could bring my grade up 4%.

Roger: You misunderstood what I meant. Your current grade seems to be a 81/90, which is a 90%, not an 80%. You started off your original question with “I have a 80 in my chem class”, which I assume you meant as 80%. Also, did you have another question?

Dear Roger,
Sorry I forgot to input the last grade. so I got a 30/60, 69/75, 57.5/70, 27.2/40, and a 34/40. I have one more test that is worth 70 points. And I have the final, which is 10% of my grade, what do I need to get on the last test in order to get at least an 86 or 87?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 64.1% on the final and last exam to get an 86% overall. You’ll need to average at least a 69.7% to get an 87% overall. Now, it sounds like you want an 86% or 87% before the final exam, which is a little easier. If you want that, then you’ll have to get a 36.5% on your last exam to get a 86% before the final exam, or a 47.8% on your last exam to get a 87% before the final exam. The reason why this is easier is that your test average is currently so low, and your current grade is a 89.5% already.

I have a 82 in math and the test counts as 40% of my grade I want to have at least a B what do I need to get

Roger: Is your test the whole 40%? Or are there other things in that 40% category? Also, do you have any undetermined categories? I’ll assume that your test is the whole 40% and the rest of your grade has been decided. If so, you’ll need to get at least a 77% on the exam to get a 80% overall.

I currently have a 72.5 in stat. there are 4 exams and on my first I got a 68% out of 100%.

Exams are worth 60%
Hw: 5%
Quizzes: 5%
Final: 30%

*lowest exam gets dropped and replaced with final exam
*lowest quiz gets dropped

What do I need to get on the next 3 exams to get an A?

Roger: That depends on 1) how many exams you’ve taken, 2) your current exam average, 3) how many quizzes you’ve taken, and 4) your current quiz average. Also, did you want to know what you need to get on your final exam too? Technically, you could get 0% on all of your exams if you could get an arbitrarily high score on your final like 500%. Also, I assume that an A is a 90%?

Hello Roger,
I had a 52% in the first semester. 79.80% for the second semester. The exam is 25% of our grade. How much do i have to get on my exam to maintain a 70s overall??
-Thank you.

Roger: Well, your overall grade right now is a 65.9%, if you take the average of your two semester grades. You’ll need to get a 82.3% on the exam in order to get a 70% overall.

Hi Roger,
If I have a 68.74% in my class, and I need at least a 70% to pass, what do I need on my project that is worth 5% of my grade?

Roger: You’ll need at least a 93.94% on the project, assuming that there are no other undetermined parts of your grade.

Roger,

Thank you for this very helpful tool, but I need some help. My school gets the semester exams by taking 40% from the two quarters, and then 20% from the exams. Thus, 40%+40%+20%=100%.

First semester I received an 87% (Q1 87% Q2 91% Exam 78%). This semester, I have earned a 90% and a 91%. I have used the calculator above to determine that I need a 89.5% to lock myself in with an A for this semester. But how do i determine my final grade of the year? I am assuming that semester 1 is 50% and semester 2 is the other 50%. Can you help?

Thanks

Roger: That sounds reasonable. Your final grade of the year would probably be the average of your two semester grades.

Roger
Wed, 04 Jun 2014 00:12:11 GMT

Roger bro, I have a 90.86 in a class, the final is worth 20%, the absolute lowest I would settle for is 89.5, but I'd prefer a 90

Roger: Good luck!

John, my daughter's in middle school and her average before the exam was 99.1% :
20% Homework - 91.17%
40% Quiz Avag = 95.17%
40% Test Avg = 107% (based on 2 tests with scores of 100 & 114 (bonuses included in last test)

The Final Exam will be included in the Test avg and counted twice -- basically if she get a 98
it will be added to the test scores twice i.e. 100, 114, 98, 98 and will bring Test Avg to a 102%, thereby bring average to 97.3%

In my mind since the highest score she could receive on the exam is a 100, there was no way for her to maintain a 99.1% average for the class. Is this typical ? How could the algorithm be altered to allow her to maintain the 99.1%?

Roger: Yep, there’s no way to maintain her 99.1% average. The reason is that her test average is already over 100%, so any score she gets will bring that test average down. It’s not typical for this to happen, but that’s the way it is.

Since the final is only 20%, and you can afford to drop 3%, what you need to get to maintain that grade will be pretty low. The more persentage points you can afford to drop means you can afford to get a lower grade.

Roger: Thanks for helping!
