Thanks for the awesome site roger! I was worrying about my grade in AP Stats, (kinda ironic that I still have to look up a website to calculate final grades!) which was an 88, and I wanted to come out even or above , (I actually ended up making a 89) this site was a great visual motivator for me!

Thanks!

Hi Roger,
I've been scrolling through the past comments and I'm really not that sure if you're still operating the site or whatnot. Anyways, I have an 86% in my mathematics class and I would like a 90% at least. Tests are 60%, homeworks are 20%, and the final is 20% of our grade. To be honest, I haven't a clue on how to maneuver the calculator. So far I have a homework average of 100%, but my test average is 83.375%. What score will I have to achieve a 90% overall in the class? I really would appreciate your help. From what I can tell by the comments section, your website is great!

Roger: Your current grade is a 87.5% by my calculations. If so, then you will need a 99.85% on the final exam to get a 90% overall. However, you said that your overall grade is a 86%, which doesn’t match up with your other numbers. I would suggest you speak to your teacher about that. (Are you sure your homework average is really 100%?)

I have a 91 in java right now, and I want at least a 90. The final is under the exams part of our grade (15%). We currently have not taken any exams, so would my current exam average be a 0 or a 100? When I plug the numbers into the calculator (for where it counts as a test), the current exam average of 0 means I need a negative score on the final, and a 100 as the current exam score mean I need a 94. What is it really?

Roger: If you haven’t taken any exams yet, then your exam category is the same thing as a final exam category. You should just use the normal final grade calculator then. Does that make sense?

Great Site

Hello, this is a really great site, it really helped me. I really liked how you answer the people and help them out.. But I believe it would be better if you improve your site by putting..

First Semester Grade (%): ___________
Second Semester Grade (%): ___________
You Want At Least (%): _________
Your Final Is Worth (__%) Of Your Grade.

But overall it is a really great site, Good Luck!

Roger: Thanks for the idea!

Hello Roger. I had a 53% on the first semester & an 80% on the second semester. The final exam is 25% of our grade. How much should i get on the exam to get 64% and above?
-- ThankYou so much.

Roger: Well, your current grade is a 66.5%. You need to get at least a 56.5% on the final exam to get a 64% overall.

Hey Roger! If i have a current grade of 65.33%, but averaged with everything else, makes the total year grade 70.825%, how much do I need to just pass the final (worth 15%) ? (at least a 60%)

Just double checking if its really a 26%

Roger: That sounds about right.

Hey,
My algebra 2 honors class is composed of 3 categories: 45 percent tests, 10 percent homework, and 20 percent quizzes, the rest 20 percent is participation, which is my lowest grade. I have a 95 percent in tests, a 100 percent in homework, a 90 percent in quizzes, and a 65 percent in participation. What is my grade and what do I need to get on the final which is 5 percent off our grade in order to get an A 95 percent or better?

Roger: Well, it looks like your current grade is a 88.2%. You will need to get at least a 225% on your final exam to get a 95% overall.

Dear Roger,
I have a 80 in my chem class.
I got a 50%, 92%, 82%, and a 64% on my tests. (Tests are worth 40% of my grade and classwork is 35%, HW is 15%, and the final is 10%.)
I have a 40 point, 70 point, and 30 point test left.
If i get 100 on the other categories, what do I need to get on the the next tests to get at least a 90?

Roger: That depends on how many points your previous tests were worth.

I got a 30/60, 69/75, and 57.5/70 on the three past tests.

Roger: It sounds like you currently have a 80/90 in your chem class, not an 80%. (Let me know if that sounds wrong.) Also, you didn’t mention if you wanted me to take your final into consideration, so I will ignore it now and assume that you want an overall grade of 81/90 (90%). If so, you’ll need to average at least a 79.19% on your next 3 tests to get a 90% before the final.

Um I know that I have an 80. I asked my teacher and she said I would have to get an 85 on the next tests. I have a notebook grade that I think is the equivalent to 3 test grades, that will theoretically could bring my grade up 4%.

Roger: You misunderstood what I meant. Your current grade seems to be a 81/90, which is a 90%, not an 80%. You started off your original question with “I have a 80 in my chem class”, which I assume you meant as 80%. Also, did you have another question?

Dear Roger,
Sorry I forgot to input the last grade. so I got a 30/60, 69/75, 57.5/70, 27.2/40, and a 34/40. I have one more test that is worth 70 points. And I have the final, which is 10% of my grade, what do I need to get on the last test in order to get at least an 86 or 87?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 64.1% on the final and last exam to get an 86% overall. You’ll need to average at least a 69.7% to get an 87% overall. Now, it sounds like you want an 86% or 87% before the final exam, which is a little easier. If you want that, then you’ll have to get a 36.5% on your last exam to get a 86% before the final exam, or a 47.8% on your last exam to get a 87% before the final exam. The reason why this is easier is that your test average is currently so low, and your current grade is a 89.5% already.

Dear Roger,
I think there is something I am not inputting, because my current grade is an 83. I have a 70 point test and the final left. The test is 40% of my grade while the final is 10%. Could you explain how you got 81/90 while I got an 83, because I have overlooked what I wrote, and I can't seem to understand where the 81/90 came from?

Roger: I think you should ask your teacher about this instead. They can probably clarify any questions you have about how your grade is calculated, since it looks like your current grade is calculated differently than what you say.

Roger,
Don't listen to these racist, rude freaks. A lot of students really appreciate this website, including myself, and have the integrity to know you're a person like everyone else. People are mean everywhere, especially the internet, because there aren't usually ways of retaliation besides another angry comment. Just wait though for when they lose their job due to a racist comment they made, or even get arrested for cyber-bullying, *which is very possible people* and don't even get the opportunity to attempt to earn all the recognition you have. Thank you again, and God bless.

Roger: Thanks!

Okay who are you people? Please stop spamming comments on my site. I find this extremely offensive. I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in mathematics, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret trips to the library, and I have over 300 confirmed highscores on pacman. I am trained in panda warfare and I’m the top fighter in the entire US street fighter league. You are nothing to me but just another equation. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, kimosabi. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of sleeper japs across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the learning, maggot. The learning that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, doku. I can be anywhere, anytime, as long as I don't have to drive there; and I can tutor you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s without a calculator. Not only am I extensively trained in single variable statistics, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Texas Instrument supply corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little sudoku. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit knowledge all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, senpai.

Roger: When I got to college, I realized that I wasn’t really good at math. But on the bright side, I learned that Texas Instruments gives away free samples of a lot of their integrated circuits. You can do a lot of cool stuff with access to their huge supply of IC’s.

Dear Roger, my daughter's in middle school and her average before the exam was 99.1% :
20% Homework – 91.17%
40% Quiz Avag = 95.17%
40% Test Avg = 107% (based on 2 tests with scores of 100 & 114 (bonuses included in last test)

The Final Exam will be included in the Test avg and counted twice — basically if she get a 98
it will be added to the test scores twice i.e. 100, 114, 98, 98 and will bring Test Avg to a 102%, thereby bringing average down to 97.3% (Which is an A not an A+ at my daughter's school)

If the highest score she could receive on the exam is a 100, there was no way for her to maintain a 99.1% average for the class. Is this typical ? How could the algorithm be altered or what value on the exam would allow her to maintain the 99.1% (A+)?

Roger: Yep, there’s no way to maintain her 99.1% average. The reason is that her test average is already over 100%, so any score she gets will bring that test average down. It’s not typical for this to happen, but that’s the way it is.
