I need a 110% to get an A-, but a 54% to get a B-. Someone's not studying tonight

Roger send me prayers. I need an 84% to keep an A in algebra 2. Now, that may not seem so bad, but last semester I needed an 83% to keep an A and I got a 70%. I need your prayers more than ever. I also read your blog, you seem like a great, accomplished guy Roger. Now pray for me.

Dear Roger, I am currently enrolled in Algebra A as a freshman, I have taken All 3 medical class I can take as a freshman (got 2 A's and 1 B) and I want to be a Doctor, preferably a Psychiatrist. Like I said before I am in Algebra A, that is the lowest Algebra class available, lower than average because I am not good at math (I still have a B in it tho) I know that to be a Psychiatrist you need to be good at Math and Science the most, I am taking the above average chemistry next year, but in order to take that I need to be in Algebra 1 (average math), next year I will be in Algebra B, I don't know if they will let me into the program next year so I can pursue my dreams. Almost every medical job needs you to be in a good science class. Has my math completely ruined my dreams? The furthest in math I can go in Highschool is Trigonometry as a Senior. I cant take the harder science even tho I know I can do it. I just need some advice from a person that has already completed college to help me out. Thanks.

P.S. I am also going to enroll in Psychiatry and Medical Terminology as a Senior.

Roger: I had a similar system of correlated requirements for Math and Science courses when I was in middle school and high school. It’s a terrible system for students, but it gives science teachers a baseline for what kind of math they can expect their students to already know. I’d recommend asking your counselor to accelerate your math courseload (maybe you can take more than one math class simultaneously?) or to allow you to enroll in your chemistry class without meeting the prerequisite, with the understanding that you’ll personally take responsibility for learning any math needed for the class. I’d also suggest focusing less on taking career-specific courses in high school. They tend not to help very much (both academically and for college admissions), but if you’re genuinely interested in the course material, then feel free to take them anyway, of course.
