This website has helped me so much. I always wonder what I need to get on a test in order to keep my grade at a certain percentage, and your calculator does it for me.

"What's the lowest grade I can make to keep my A?"

Hey Roger,

Thank you so much for making this website!!! I've been using this calculator since you created it. I really appreciate it! It has gotten me through my senior year in undergrad and currently, Dental School. You are awesome!

Sincerely,

N

Hi Roger. So I am taking an online class and I will not be able to see my final grade until the end of the semester but I need to know it now. Exams are 60% of my grade, quizzes and assignments are 30%, and activities are 10%. I received a 55 on my first exam, and 80 on my first quiz, a 0 on the first assignment, and I have completed every activity. Can you please tell me what my grade is so far and tell me what I need to get on my next quiz and test to receive at least an 80% in the class? Thanks!

Roger: I can’t say exactly what your current grade is unless I know how much quizzes are worth in comparison to assignments in your “quizzes and assignments” category. But your current grade is probably around a 65%?

Please monitor and remove some of the really offensive comments on the final grade calculator page, a lot of the stuff there is messed up and racist

Roger, (just a suggestion)
I know so many people who use this site and I feel you are not making the most out of your opportunities for financial gain. (I want you to make more money so you can create bigger and better projects!) You could flood the website with non intrusive ads and make so much just on the "final grade calculator" page alone. You are obviously very smart and I applaud your work and contributions to students everywhere! I hope you continue to do great things!

I have a 69.90 in my math class, what's the lowest grade I could get on my final to pass the class if it's worth 20%?

Marcus

I have a 45% in my physics class, my final is worth 25% of my grade, i need a 75% to pass for the semester. The finals are still a ways away, and i know that my teacher has a couple major and daily grades left.

So my question is, How do you calculate how Daily and Major grades affect your average. Im not too exemplary at math, so I was wondering if you could do it for me, or maybe even add it to this site.

If you did that it would be awesome.

Roger: It depends on your course’s grading policy, so it’d be impossible to add something like that to the website, short of handing you a four function calculator. Sorry!

Roger thank you so much man. I have spent all semester struggling in my Algebra 2 class. I'm honestly just bad at math and my teacher has an unwillingness to help me one on one. I got to the point where I'm not even going for a C at this point, just not an F. My stress level has been through the roof until I got my official grade before the final. Naturally, the first thing I did was come here, I've been using this for a while now. I found out that to pass I only need a 25% on the final. I'm still stressed, but a little less than before. I can update you on how it all turns out if you'd like

Roger: You’re welcome, and good luck!

Hi Roger,

If my 4 quizzes are worth 30% of my grade and so far I received a 47% on one and the second one a 20%. Plus my midterm is worth 30% and I got a 92%.

What is my current grade?
What do I need to get in the following quizzes and Final exam in order to pass with at least a 70%?

4 quizzes worth 30% (already took 2, scored a 47% and a 20%)
1 midterm- 40% (scored a 92%)
1 final -30% (pending)

Thank you for your help :)

Roger: You said that your midterm is worth 30%, and then later, you said your midterm is worth 40%. Which is it?

Have you ever thought about adding a pull down for special exceptions? You know, for the athletic teams. I think they start those admits around a 3.0.

Roger: You’re talking about the UC calculator right? All that stuff is just based on released statistics from the statfinder. It didn’t include anything about special cases.

Hi Roger, I have a question for you. So I'm trying to maintain a B in my math class and in order to do so I need to get an 80 or above in the class. Right now my grade is an 89.12%. I would need to get a 93% on my math final in order to get an A in that class which would be hard so I'm just looking for maintaining a B in the 80-89% range. Back to my question, our teacher is putting in a homework, class participation, and final grade next week. Participation is worth 10% of our grade and homework is 10% of our grade and the final is worth 25% of our grade (two parts, first part worth 13% second part worth 12%). I was wondering since we are turning in a homework packet tomorrow, what would I have to get in all three categories in order to maintain at least an 80%? The homework packet is going to be worth 60 points and the participation is worth 50 points.

Roger: Well, what is your current homework grade and participation grade? Do you have anything in those categories right now? You said that your current grade is a 89.12%. Does that include participation and/or homework? Also, I need to know your current homework average, how many homework packets (or points) you have so far, whether or not all of the packets are worth the same amount, your participation average (if any).

Will you consider making an AP Exam calculator sometime in the future too?

Roger: What would an AP Exam calculator do?

Emily

Hi Roger!
I was hoping you could help me calculate my final average. I asked my professor but he was of no help and I really want to make sure I'm doing this correctly.

- Homework = 14.3% or 100 pts.
- Participation = 14.3% or 100 pts.
- Exams = 43% or 300 pts.
- Final = 29% or 200 pts.

Exam Scores: 48%, 64%, 65% (I know, I know...)
Homework: 99%
Participation: 100%
Final: 29%... N/A

**I have 20 extra credit points that are applied to my overall point total. Also, the class averages to a total of 700 pts. with 490 pts. being the minimum needed to pass with a 70%.**

Would you be able to tell me what my current grade in the class is and what I would need on the final to pass with a 70%? I've done the calculations on my own already, but I want to make sure I have a chance of passing.

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate this!

- Emily

Roger: Your current grade is a 75.2%. You will need to get at least a 114/200 (57%) on the final exam to get a 70% overall.

When evaluating applications, do UCs focus on the grades you received in classes that relate to your intended major? Or do they just look at your 10-12 a-g GPA (weighted for up to 8 honors/APs)?

Roger: I’m not an expert on college admissions. I’d imagine that it’s the former for STEM majors, although your grades in non-STEM courses are also important.

Very cool. Roger. However, I live in Illinois. My GPA is 3.58 unweighted and my first act score was a 24 (I'm taking it again in April and expect a higher score). What do you think are some reasonable schools for me? Thanks. You're the best!

Roger: I don’t know anything about college admissions. I applied to like 5 schools!

Brendan
Wed, 18 Dec 2013 12:04:02 GMT

Roger: Have you tried my UC Freshmen Admissions Calculator? ;)

Brendan
Tue, 17 Dec 2013 23:42:55 GMT

Keep up the good work. What was your GPA/ACT to get into UCB?

Roger: I didn’t take the ACT. I had a ~3.93 unweighted GPA in high school.

Hey, have you ever done C++? This anon is currently doing Java, and is wondering what C++ would be like.
By the way, great website! That finals calculator is great. :D

Roger: Yep. I’ve used C++, but only academically. I think it’s something people should learn only after they’ve already studied at least a dozen other languages. The syntax is so expansive (which also makes it very expressive). By the way, thanks!

What a crock of a calculator. I put in everything the same, including cumulative weighted GPA of 3.9. Changing SAT from 800 (Math), 700, 700 to 800,800,800 and it went from 16% to Holy Smokes, you must have been working. What a crock--same GPA (so same amount of work).

Roger: Hmm. That seems reasonable to me.

Hey roger i really love this stuff you did. The final grade has been helping me a lot. And i too have been starting to learn coding recently. I've been trying to learn javascript and im just wondering if you tutor people?

Roger: I don’t tutor anyone formally. However, I help my friends and answer questions when I can. In my opinion, JavaScript is a poor choice for a first language to learn (although it was my first as well).
