As of right now I have 887 out of a weighted total of 1,300.44. There are 3 midterm exams worth 10% each so far I have gotten an 84 and 91, 15 homework assignments worth an overall 25% and my two lowest grades are 33.3 and 337.5, the final exam will be worth 25%, class participation is 5% in which i have only missed one class and have participated in class discussion, last there is a term paper worth 15%. i was wondering if you could give me an estimate on my grade if I didn't do the term paper?

What would I need to get on the essay and final If i wanted lets say a low 80, if possible?

Roger: If you actually got a 75% on Essay 2, then you’d need to average at least a 136.7% on Essay 4 and the Final to get a 80% overall. I don’t think you’ll be able to get an 80% without turning in Essay 3. Sorry!

This includes homework, participation, and Exam 1 which weighed 12% of my grade. On exam 1 - I got a 59.8%. On Exam 2, I got a 62% (worth 15%). What is my current overall grade now with Exam 2? Also, what will I need on Exam 3 (worth 12%) to get an 80% in the class? Please advise?

Roger: I’m assuming that after Exam 3, you will have no more assignments added to your grade. If so, your current grade with Exam 2 included is 82.7%. To get a 80% overall, you’ll need at least a 60.0% on Exam 3.

I won't stop studying if i found out i only needed a small amount to pass. What it would do for me is i would relax more, so my studying would work better. The not knowing stresses me and i tend to freeze on a test. enough said!!!!

Exam 1: 25% ....................my score was 72.3%......exam was out of 195

okay so i am taking anatomy and physiology lab and lecture. at the end of the semester they are combined into one grade. for lecture i have a 78.9% and for lab i have a 70.3%. Lecture is worth 75% of the final grade and lab is the other 25%. i still have 2 exams for lecture (out of 4 and all 4 are worth 50 pts together) andi have 1 quiz in lecture left too (out of 4 worth 10 pts). in lab i have 2 quiz left (worth 15% all together), a final (worth 20%) and lab report (worth 10%) and a presentation (worth 5%) what grades do i have to make o each of these to at least get a 85 as my average in total. for the ending and final grade

Woops, accidentally sent it too early. But essentially, currentGrade would be whatever percent you have so basically the value of your currentGrade*(1-examWorth), and everything else is the same.

The reason I think this should be here is because none of my teachers have given grades as 90% if the avg of your marks is 90%; they give you the 90% * (1-examworth) value.

This calculator should have an option to calculate given absolute percentages of grades (essentially just adding percentages together, but that's the purpose of this, no? :P)

For example:
Instead of multiplying the current grade by the percent of the grade it's worth (relative to total percent) make the formula something like:
gradeNeeded = currentGrade +( finalWorth * finalMark);
Where current grade could be like 30%, finalWorth

Roger: Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve seen a couple of examples where teachers provide the current grade like that. However, that’s an improper use of percentages. By definition, percentages need to be out of 100. So, if your current grade is 61% out of 70%, then that isn’t a percentage. That really should be expressed as 61/70, which is a 87.1%. I think an option like that would cause more confusion than it’s worth.

Hi, I'm getting a 63% in physics. I was wondering if I could bring it up to at least 80%. But before the finals, we still have about 2 unit test and 3 quizzes and some small worksheets. My finals is worth 30% . Please reply what Avergae mark I need to get for the tests and worksheets to get to 80.

Roger: It depends on how much those 2 unit tests and 3 quizzes are worth. It also depends on your current average in each of those categories. Can you provide those numbers?

This significantly reduced my grade in the class, I have a 58.86%, I have two remaining exams to take in the class each worth 20%, 40% in total. I just want to make a C in the class that is considered a pass, what grades would I need to get on both tests to get a C?
