Hey Roger, My current grade is 66.77%. My tests are worth 90% and homework is worth 10%. I have taken one test so far and only scored a 62.50 on it. My homework grade is 92% (but only worth 10% of my overall grade). So I have 5 more test to take and I was wondering what I needed to score on these next 5 tests in order to receive at least a 80% in the class?

Roger: It seems like your overall grade should be a 65.45%, not a 66.77%. Anyway, assuming that you maintain a 92% homework average, you’ll need to average at least a 81.9% on your next 5 tests to get a 80% overall.

Hi. 8 I have no idea what my class score is, but class participation is worth 10 percent, I participate every class. I just wrote an exam that was worth 30% of my grade but currently I am unaware of my current grade. How do I know what my grade is?

Roger: Try asking your instructor.

Hi Roger! My mark in class was a 99 and on my last math test I scored only an 86 and it was worth about 20%. What is my current grade?

Roger: It depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. For example, if you’ve already completed 30% of your coursework and your exam is worth an additional 20%, then your overall grade would drop to a 93.8%.

My final class mark was 80%. My diploma exam mark was 60%. My diploma exam is worth 30% of final mark. What is my final mark?

Roger: You just said that your final class mark was an 80%. Did you mean that your class mark was an 80% before your diploma exam? Assuming that you have no more assignments after your diploma exam, your class mark should drop to a 74% because of your diploma exam score.

I'm taking an AP Biology class as a freshman, and it's really hard. We've taken 3 tests so far, which accounts for 82.9% of our entire grade. I bombed the first test with a 69%, the next I got 81%, and the most recent one I got a 85%. My grade is improving, just not as significantly as I would like it to be. I want to raise my grade to at least a 95% (is this even a possible goal?) before my final, leaving at least a couple more tests.

current grade: 82.3%
classwork/homework: 100% (4.7% of grade)
tests: 78.3% (82.9% of grade)
quizzes: 100% (2.8% of grade)
dice quizzes: 102.9% (9.7% of grade)

If there are 3-5 more tests left in the semester, what's the grade range or average test grade I need to get in order to finish the class with an A? (not considering the final)

Thanks so much!

Roger: Assuming that your grade in each of your non-test categories doesn’t change, you’ll need to raise your test average to a 93.8% to get a 95% overall. If you have 3 more tests left, you’ll need to average at least a 109.4% on your next 3 tests to have a 95% overall before your final. If you have 5 more tests left, you’ll need to average at least a 103.2% on your next 5 tests to have a 95% overall before the final. If you tell me what your final is worth, or if you want to aim for a 90% or an 85% instead, it’ll be a little easier. I assumed that each of your tests is worth the same amount, and that your final will count as some portion of your test grade, rather than as its own category. Also, your percentage weights add up to 100.1%, but I ignored that discrepancy.

I got 60% on my first test and i have one more exam and then final what do i need to get in my final exam and other exam to order to get 85 %

Roger: It depends on how much your two exams and your final are worth. Other than those three, do you have any more assignments?

Roger: Hi

I currently have a 90 in a class an was wondering how a grade would affect the average and what I would need on a quiz (50% of the grade) to get it back close to it

100 on a activity (10%)
95 on a quiz (50%)
100 on a activity (10%)
94.29 on a activity (10%)
100 on an lab (20%)
75 on a quiz (50%)
37 on a activity (10%)

And I have no grades on the final catagory of 20%
Thanks

Roger: Your current grade is a 88.5%. Your latest grade (a 37% in your activity category) made your grade decrease from a 90.4% to a 88.5%. If you score at least a 92.3% on your next quiz, your grade will go back up to a 90.0%. Good luck! (I assumed that each item in a particular category is worth an equal amount.)

Hi roger! I have an 84 in my AP psych class and We have one more test until the quarter is up and so far there have been 2 all worth 50
Points. I got a 37/50 on my first one and a 39/50 on my second one.
I really want an A so bad is it possible?

Roger: Aside from exams, what are the other parts of your grade? Since your current test average is a 76%, I’ll assume you have a “Homework/Classwork” category that’s worth 33.3% of your grade (and that you have a 100% in that category). If that’s true, then your overall grade would be a 84%, just like you said. In that case, you’ll need to get at least a 103.0% on your 3rd test in order to raise your grade to a 90%. If you want an 80% instead, you’ll only need to score a 58.0% on your 3rd test. If your “Homework/Classwork” category is actually worth less than 33.3%, then my answers will be underestimates.

Hi roger! It's me again - I am posting my professor's exam policy to help figure this out -
"Exam Policies: I will replace your lowest
midterm score grade with the average of all 3 midterm exams"

Roger: Hmm, well that changes things. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 88.0% on your next 2 exams and final exam to get a 80% overall. If you want a 70% overall instead, you’ll need to average at least a 73.1% on your next 2 exams and final exam.

Hi Roger!
I got a 50.5 on my last test and I don't know what to do - I spent hours every day of every week studying but I still got that grade and I've never failed anything like this before. So now my grade in the class is a 55.47 (because of homework assignments). I wanted to see if it was possible to bring up my score to at least an 80 in the class (I know an A is probably out of the question now). I have 3 tests total (I just took the first one), all worth 60% of our grade. Then our final exam is worth 14%. Can you please let me know if it's possible to get an 80 and what scores I would have to get on each test and final exam?
Thank you

Roger: You said your current grade is a 55.47%, but was that calculated by making your first test worth the entire 60% of your test category? Or does your first test only count for 20% (one-third of the total test category)? I’ll assume that it counts for the entire 60%, since that would work in your favor. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 97.2% on your next 2 tests and your final exam to get a 80% overall. If you want a 70% overall instead, then you’ll need to average at least a 78.7% on your next 2 tests and your final exam.

I might sound like a slacker, forgive me! But I'm in marching band and I hardly have anytime to do my studying. I've just picked up my algebra ll grade to a 71 and I'm proud, But Now im failing Physics with a 57. Today is U.I.L grade check! What should i do to bring my grade from a 57 to at least a 70? If I fail I won't be able to march and if I miss a competition I won't be able to go to the Disney world trip! Help please.

Roger: Try talking to your instructor and explaining the situation. They might be willing to drop your lowest test score or otherwise offer you some recourse.

Hi Roger,
I do not appreciate the blatant neglect of @asdfjkshaldk's question. Quite frankly, @asdfjkshaldk would agree with me that Camille Saint-Saens is far superior to all classical composers of his time. The fact that you would discredit his work hurts me, not only in my heart, but also in my right thorax. Additionally, I must also comment that the Israeli Knesset is as useless as my appendix.

I feel like this program is an accurate depiction of the state of this world and the turbulent times that we live in:

import java.util.Scanner;

public class Sleep{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
//declaration of variables
int byear;
int bmonth;
int bday;
int cyear;
int cmonth;
int cday;
int aliveday;
int sleephour;
int a;

//input of variables
Scanner scan=new Scanner(System.in);

System.out.println("Enter your birth year:");
byear=scan.nextInt();
System.out.println("Enter your birth month:");
bmonth=scan.nextInt();
System.out.println("Enter the day of your birth:");
bday=scan.nextInt();
System.out.println("Enter the current year:");
cyear=scan.nextInt();
System.out.println("Enter the current month:");
cmonth=scan.nextInt();
System.out.println("Enter the current day:");
cday=scan.nextInt();

//calculations
aliveday=(cyear-byear)*365+(cmonth-bmonth)*30+(cday-bday);
sleephour=aliveday*8;

//output
System.out.println("You have been alive for "+aliveday+" days and have slept for "+sleephour+" hours.");

}
}

Roger: Doesn’t account for leap years or days per months or time travelers. I give it 5/10.

Dear Roger, I find that your calculator is functional but not up to par with mine. Please try this one:

import java.util.Scanner;
/**
* Auto Generated Java Class.
*/
public class FinalGradeCalculator {

public static void main(String[] args) { //Decleration of Variables

double X;
double P;
double D;
double F;
final double Y = 100;

//Input of Variables

Scanner scan = new Scanner (System.in);

System.out.println("Welcome to the final grade calculator. Enter current grade here: X =");
X = scan.nextDouble();

System.out.println("Enter the percent that the final is worth here: %=");
P = scan.nextDouble();

System.out.println("Enter your desired grade in the class here: D = ");
D = scan.nextDouble();

//Caclulation

F=(D-X*(Y/Y-(P/Y)))/(P/Y);

//Output

System.out.println("If you have a " + X + " in the class, to achieve a " + D + " in the class, you will need a " + F + " on the final.");

}

}

Hi
I have an 85% in Algebra 2, and got a 50.5 out of 50 possible points. This is because of bonus questions on the exam. what would my resulting overall grade be? Thanks!

Roger: The answer depends on (1) how much your exam is worth, as a percentage of your total grade, and (2) what percentage of your coursework you’ve completed so far (expressed as a percentage of your total grade).

My current grade is a 94% and I got a 46% on a test which is worth 15% of my grade what is my grade now?

Roger: The answer depends on whether that test will be the last thing to be included in your grade. For example, if you will take more tests and submit more assignments after today, then the answer would depend on exactly how much those future assignments are worth. If I assume that your test is the last assignment you’ll submit in the course, then your grade will drop to a 86.8%. If the test isn’t actually your last assignment, then this answer will be an overestimate.

In my class we have 5 grades that make up our final grade, four exams grades which are worth 20% per test, and an average grade of all of my discussion boards which is worth the last 20% of the grade. I made a 68 on my first exam what would i need to make on the other grades to average atleast a B?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least an 83% on your 3 remaining exams and your discussion boards in order to get a 80% overall.

Hello Roger Hub! Using modular programming, how would you improve Hub Roger's RSPLS program?

Roger: For starters, you should separate the code for input/output and the code for determining the winner. That way, you can test the latter independently and reuse it in other programs. It also wouldn’t hurt to convert those nested if statements into a data structure.

If I have 6 exams and they are worth 70% of my grade and I fail two and pass the last 4 do I have a chance of passing the class?

I have a 100 in my health class and I got a zero on a grade that was worth 40%. What is my grade now?

Roger: Did you mean that your assignment is worth 40% of your grade by itself? Or is it in a category that’s altogether worth 40%? The answer also depends on whether you have any empty categories in your grade (like a “Final Exam” category). If your assignment is worth 40% by itself and you have no empty categories in your grade, then your grade would drop to a 60%.

I got an 84 on a test. It is 60% of my grade and I have a 90 right now. What will my new grade be?

Roger: It depends on (1) whether you’ve already taken any tests, and if so, then (2) your current test average and (3) how many tests you’ve taken. Also, I need to know (4) whether you have any empty categories in your grade (for example, an empty “Final Exam” category). Let’s assume that you haven’t taken any tests so far and you have no empty categories in your grade. In that case, your grade would drop to a 86.4%.

To respond to @asdfjkshaldk's insightful question, the second season of American Horror Story is rather disappointing for its failure to accurately depict the very prevalent racial tension present in America today. We must all cooperate in order to make America great again, and I believe the only way to do that is to look at things from a different perspective. More specifically, upside down.

In order to find the solution, I suggest you running this program, it will show you the way:

import java.util.Scanner;
import java.util.Random;

public class RPSLS{
public static void main (String [] args)
{

//declaration of variables
String input;
String inputlowercase;
int compGuess;

//input
Scanner scan=new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter your choice: rock, paper, scissors, lizard, or Spock?");
input=scan.nextLine();
inputlowercase=input.toLowerCase();

Random generator=new Random();
compGuess=generator.nextInt(5);
//compGuess 0=rock, 1= paper, 2=scissors, 3=lizard, 4=Spock

//outputs

if (inputlowercase.equals("rock"))
{
if (compGuess==0)
System.out.println("The computer chose rock, you TIED.");
if (compGuess==1)
System.out.println("The computer chose paper, you LOSE.");
if (compGuess==2)
System.out.println("The computer chose scissors, you WIN.");
if (compGuess==3)
System.out.println("The computer chose lizard, you WIN.");
if (compGuess==4)

}

if (inputlowercase.equals("lizard"))
{

My current science grade is a 93 i just took a quiz that was worth 10 points if i get a 55 on that quiz what will my overall grade change to

Roger: It depends on how much that quiz is worth, as a percentage of your entire grade. (It also depends on what percentage of your entire term’s coursework you’ve completed so far.) You said that your quiz was worth 10 points, but that doesn’t help, without knowing how many points you currently have total.

I'm doing pretty shit in my AP Math Geometry class. I've gotten an 100% on 10 homework assignments, except for a 0% on one and 80% on another. Homework assignments and classwork are worth 35% of my grade (got 100& on all classwork assignments). Tests and quiz exams are worth roughly 65% of my grade. I've gotten a 10/15 on a quiz and a 34/50 the other. I have one more quiz to get my shit together and improve my grade. Can someone tell me my average current grade, and how much I have to score on that quiz to get at least a B (85%)?
Thanks in advance.

Roger: Have you taken any tests yet? I’ll assume you haven’t. The exact answer depends on how much your homework assignments and classwork assignments are individually worth (I’ll assume that each makes up half of your 35% category). I’ll also assume that each of your quizzes is worth the same amount of your total test/quiz grade, even though they’re scored out of different numbers of points. In that case, your current grade is a 76.7% and you’ll need to get at least a 105.8% on your next quiz in order to raise that to an 85%. If you want an 80% instead, you’ll only need to score at least an 82.7% on your next quiz. But these answers depend on the assumptions I made earlier, so if any of my assumptions were incorrect, you should consider these answers incorrect as well.

Roger: How many more tests do you have? You won’t be able to raise your grade to a 95% with just 1 more test (you’d need to score at least a 124.2% on your 2nd test to raise your grade to a 95%). If you have 2 more tests, then you’d need to average at least a 109.6% on them to raise your grade to a 95%. If you have 8 more tests, then you’d need to average at least a 98.7% on them to raise your grade to a 95%. It’ll be a little easier if you can also raise your homework average.

i have an 80 in a class, so im wondering how long it will take to get my grade up to a 90
Major tests-40%
Quizzes-30%
assignments-30%

Roger: It depends on (1) how much of your coursework you’ve done so far, (2) what grade you’re planning to get on your future assignments, and (3) the rate at which you’ll be completing future coursework. Let’s say you’ve been in this class for 3 weeks so far. If you get 100% on all your future assignments, it should take roughly another 3 weeks to bring your grade up to a 90% (assuming a constant rate of coursework).

I have a 80 in reading and on my daily work is worth 60% and I have a 86% and on my test/projects have a 67 and is worth 40% what is my grade

Hi I just had my first exam and it's worth 30% of my grade in class I got 38 out of 40 on the test . How to find the percentage ?

Roger: A 38 out of 40 is 95%. You can calculate your percentage grade by dividing your score (38) by the total score (40). If you try 38 ÷ 40, then you’ll get 0.95. Since percentages are ratios of 100, you can multiply 0.95 × 100 to get “95%”.

I have an 81.5% in history and there is a quiz coming up its out of 10 and I want at least an 85% in this class what is the score that I have to get so I can get at least a 85% ??? Thank uou

Roger: It depends on (1) how much your quiz is worth as a percentage of your entire grade, and (2) what percentage of your grade has already been determined by your past assignments. For example, let’s say that your quiz is worth 10% of your grade and after you finish your quiz, you will have completed 30% of your coursework (since it’s only September, after all). In that case, you’ll need to get at least a 92% on your quiz to raise your grade to an 85% overall.

Why are so many people asking the comments on what they need to get on a test? That's the whole point of this calculator Lol

Hi. I am trying to get 50% in my course. It says I need to get 5000% on the final. Which of my personal belongings should I sell first before I go completely bankrupt and drop out of uni?

Roger: Why does your grade affect whether you’re going to go bankrupt?
