I have a 102% in my history class at the end of the quarter. My quarterly I am taking tomorrow is 20% of my final grade. Apparently I need a 42% on my quarterly in order to end the quarter with a 90%. This doesn't seem right?

Roger: Sounds about right to me.

You guys are all stupid. I am an eighth grader taking twelfth grade courses with a GPA of 4 (we do not do weighted GPA- max is 4). I have never received a course grade of even an A-. I am NJHS President and Student President. Also, administration loves me. I get to help with teacher interviews, and whenever there is a news crew at our school, I get to speak. I love life!

My semester average is 69 in my Honors Physical Science class and spring break is next week. I have a test Friday, My mom said she won't let me go anywhere if i don't have any c's or f's. Help

Roger: Isn’t a 69% a D grade? Since you can’t go anywhere if you don’t have any C’s or F’s, you can either raise that to a 70% or lower it to a 59%. I recommend lowering it to a 59%, since that’s probably easier.

i have a 57 in the class and i want at least a 94, what do i have to do?

Roger: If you lower your grade to a 56%, you can turn your head upside down and it kind of looks like “95”.

Roger, I have a 78 average and I got an 85 on my tests. What is my new average?

Roger: Did you get an 85 on just 1 test? Or multiple tests? How much are your tests worth?

To reply to your question, I've taken 3 tests, 2 short answers and a DBQ which has yet to enter the grade book.

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 96.1% on your remaining 3 tests, 3 or 4 short answer questions, and final exam to get a 90% overall. (I assumed your DBQ is worth the same as 1 short answer question.)

My grade in English is currently 74.98%. My 2 page essays are worth 50% of my grade. So far I've completed 3 of 5 . With grades of 71,73 and im sure I did poorly on the 3rd but I haven't received my grade back. What will I have to make on the next two papers to get at least a 73 average.

Roger: Assuming you have no empty categories in your grade, you’ll need to average at least a 65.4% on your 3rd, 4th, and 5th essays to keep your overall grade above a 73%.

Excuse me, roger, I have a 90 in my class and we have a test that is 85% of my class but I had gotten a 78 for my summative and I am not sure if it will affect it that much or not, but I had gotten a choice to take a retake, what grade would I need?

Sincerley, Ally Simpson

Roger: There are a few details missing from your question. What grade are you trying to get? How many tests have you taken so far, and what did you score on them?
Is each of your tests worth an equal fraction of your 85% test category? How does your “summative” factor into your overall grade?

Hi there, I can't calculate what I need to get a 60% in my 4th yr French
Grammar. Each one is weighted differently.
1) 67% worth 5 marks
2) 47% worth 10 marks
3) 65% worth 15 marks
______________________
4). Will be worth 15 marks
5) will be worth 15 marks
6) Exam will be worth 20 marks
7) Classroom participation is worth 20 marks

I can't figure out what I need on 4,5,6 and 7!??

With thanks

Roger: Your current grade is a 59.3%. You’ll need to average at least a 60.3% on assignments 4, 5, 6, and 7 to get a 60% overall.

Hi!

I have a 90.8% in my math class.
Tests are worth 50%, and my average over 3 tests is a 89.3%.
Quizzes are worth 25%, and my average over 4 quizzes is a 93.8%.
The Final Exam is worth 20% of our grade (no grade entered), and the other 5% is Work Habit/Participation (no grade entered), which she inputs at the end of the year.

I got a 77% on a quiz today, and my teacher has not inputted that yet.

1. What would my grade be once she inputs this quiz?
2. There will be 2 more tests and 1-3 quizzes left in the semester, in addition to the Final Exam. What would I need to score in order to end with an A (90%)?

Thanks in advance!!

Roger: Your quiz should bring your grade down to a 89.7%. Assuming you have 2 quizzes left, you’ll need to average at least a 90.3% on your next 2 tests, 2 quizzes, final exam, and participation to get a 90% overall. If we also assume that you’ll get 100% in participation, then you’ll need to average at least a 89.2% on your next 2 tests, 2 quizzes, and final exam to get a 90% overall.

Hey ROGER, I have an 88% in my science class & I recently got a 83% on the test & she only has one more grade to put in which is a project grade but I don't know the % on how much projects r worth I think it's 20% so can my grade maybe go to a 90% if I did good on the project!!

Roger: I don’t think your grade will go up to a 90%, but the exact answer depends on how much your test and project are worth (and your exact project score). Is your project worth 20% by itself? Or is it part of a “projects” category that’s altogether worth 20% of your grade?

Hey dood! I currently have an 80 in my AP human class (it's my lowest grade). My test average is a 78, my short answer/essay average is a 71 and my final is worth 20% of my grade. Tests are weighted 45% and short answers are weighted 20%. I still have 3 tests and (presumedly) 3 to 4 short answers left before my final in May, along with some minor class assignments which won't affect my grade much since my average in class work is a 98. What do I need in order to get an A in the class eventually (by the end of the semester)?

Roger: How many tests have you taken so far? How many short answer/essays have you submitted so far?

Roger: Your current grade is a 64.9%. You’ll need to score at least a 82.0% on your last exam to raise your grade to a 70%.

Bruh if I have a 90% as my current average and if I got a 65% on my final that's worth 20% of my grade it would go down to an 85. BUT WHY THE FUCK DOES IT ONLY GO UP WILL IT GO UP 1% IF I GET A 95%. what the hell is wrong with our schooling systems.

Roger: It depends on how much your classwork assignments and unit tests are worth, compared to the assignments and tests you’ve finished so far.

ROGER PLEASE HELP ME
Sun, 26 Mar 2017 01:53:15 GMT

rogers calculations are not always accurate, so beware when u ask him for help. He said I need to keep a 92 average to bring grade up to be but i got 88 on just one test and grade went up to 82...proving that he doesnt know what hes talking about!!!!!

Roger: Hey, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I took a look at your previous comment and I’ve corrected it. You’ll need to average at least a 81.4% on your 2nd test, 3rd test, and final exam in order to get a 79.5% overall. (However, your current grade should be a 80.6% according to the numbers you provided, not a 82%.) Sorry for giving you an incorrect answer. I usually try to take every precaution to make sure my answers are accurate. This includes computing every answer using multiple strategies and checking my answers by substituting values into the weighted sum equation (similar to solving the dual problem for a linear optimization problem of 1 variable). I’ve answered just about every possible grade-related math question that can possibly be asked. But when you’ve answered over 5,000 questions like I have, you’re bound to make a few mistakes. With 5,000 questions, even a 99% success rate would leave you with 50 errors. Let me know if you’d like to talk more about this.

Dear Roger,

My average is 86. However I was not able to give in a essay that is worth 20% of your grade. How much would my grade drop?

Roger: It depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. Also, is your essay worth 20% of your grade by itself? Or is it part of an “essays” category that is altogether worth 20%? It’s hard to believe that you didn’t turn in an essay that was worth a fifth of your grade.

Hey Roger, im feeling a little down because I got a C on my history test and now I have a 90.75% (it was a 92% prior to the test). I still have 3 tests left. My tests are weighted 70% and assignmenys are 30%. What do I need to get on those tests in order to keep my A.

Roger: How many tests have you taken so far? What was your exact grade on your last history test? What’s your current test average?

Hailey

Roger, thank you for helping me realizing the unattainable nature of my dreams while also giving me hope (for some classes). Also, the comments on this page are so depressing, I'm surprised that any person who values happiness checks these. On a side note, as you are a successful student, do you think teachers should round grades with AP tests? The bio, chem, and apel teachers at my school will round grades to an A if one gets a 5 on the AP test. However, the AP Calc teacher will not, whereas other AP Calc teachers in the district do.

Roger: In general, I think using standardized test scores to raise grades is okay. It motivates students to score higher on standardized tests, which is good for the student and good for the school. But here’s one problem many people usually never consider: AP exam registration costs almost $100 per exam, which is a price that not every student can afford. Students from disadvantaged families may feel left out if they’re unable to take the AP exam and get the same grade boost that their peers do. Most (but not all) schools have financial assistance programs for disadvantaged AP students, which makes this less of an issue.
