My final exam is worth 15% of my grade as well

Roger: Your grade will go up to a 85.8% if you get 100% on the midterm project.

Hey Roger,

I have about 20% out on my assignments worth 15% total, 68% on my midterm which was worth 25% and my final is worth the remaining 60%. What grade do I need on my final to get a 60% in the class?

Roger: I will assume that “20% out” means that you have an 80%. You will need a 51.6% on your final exam to get a 60% in the class. To get a 70% overall, you will need a 68.3% on your final. To get an 80% overall, you will need a 85% on your final.

Yes I have a final in 2 weeks, but the professor shows us our grades as she grades each assignment to see it go up and down, so I was just wondering what my grade would be since I will make a 100 on my midterm project.

Roger: It depends on how much your final is worth. Think of it this way: If your final were worth 60%, then a midterm worth 15% would affect your current grade a lot more than if the final were only worth 15%. That is because your other assignments are worth a lot less in comparison. I need to know what percent your final exam is worth, even though your question is not related to it.

Hello,

I have 4 exams and a final exam all totaling 90% of my grade. I have an 85, 90, 86, and 90 on my exams. 10% is class participation, which I am hoping I get full credit for. What do I need to get on my final in order to get at least a 90 overall in the class? Thanks

Roger: Assuming that your final exam is worth the same as the other ones, you need a 93.4% on the final exam.

If i have a 82.78% in my class right now and my midterm project is worth 15% of my grade, and I make a 100% on it, how much will my grade go up to?

Roger: What are the other categories of your grade? Are any of them undetermined? (Like a final exam.)

Free writes and quizzes are 10% of total grade. Exams are 20% of total grade. On my exams, i have made a 42, 60, and a 60. On my Free writes i have 7 100s. on my quizzes i have 50, 90, 90. Both seperate categories. What do I need on my next quiz and next exam to finish the class with a 70?

Roger: Your current average is 67% and you will need to average a 75.2% on your next exam to get a 70% overall. I’ve ignored the 70% of your grade’s composition that you have not told me about.

Roger: Ah, okay. Earlier I assumed that all of your essays were counted as one category. Your current grade is a 64.7%. You will need to average a 75.3% on your remaining essays and final to get a 70% overall. You will need to average a 55.3% on your remaining essays and final to get a 60% overall.

My grade is separated into Tests (45%), Quizzes (10%), Homework (10%), and Classwork (15%). I currently have a 53% in Tests, 90% in Quizzes, 94% in Homework, and 99% in Classwork. My average grade in the class is 71.2%.

I have taken 3 tests so far, with scores of 45%, 58%, and 56%.

If I have the final left in the semester, what is the score I need on the exam to keep a 70%

Also The final replaces my lowest Test grade and counts for a final and counts as 20% of my grade

Roger: You will need at least a 56% on your final to get a 70% overall. You will need at least a 84.7% on your final to get a 80% overall.

What do I need to get on the final to keep an A?

Roger: I’ll assume that homework is the remaining 15% of your grade. If so, you will need to get a 81.4% on the final to get a 90% overall.

If all of my test grades are 10% of my grade, but my quizzes collectively are 40% of my final grade, how do I figure out what my "quiz grade" would be. I already totaled up the points as 119/157, but I don't know how to then make that grade 40% of my final grade.

Roger: If your quiz score is 119/157, then your quiz average is a 75.80%. If you are adding up all the components of your grade, your quiz would contribute 30.3% out of 40%.

Hey, Roger. Right now, in Spanish, I have a 92. Homework is 7% (we've had 22 assignments, average: 100%), Participation is 3% (2 grades, average: 100%), Projects/Labs are 20% (6 projects, average: 90.88) Quizzes/Writing/Reading is 20% (we've had 4 quizzes, average: 94.8), Tests are 25% (5 tests, average: 87.04) and the Exam is 25%. The semester ends the second to last week of December. We will most likely have a quiz and test before then, and we definitely have a reading that I plan to get an 100 on. We just had a lab that I think i got a C on. Can you give me some grades I need to get to get a 93% in the class before my exam? Is there a way to get a 94 in the class before my exam? Etc. Just give me some numbers. And what would I need to get before the exam to be able to get an 89 on the exam and still get an A?

Roger: It looks like your current grade is actually a ~92.8%, which is significantly better than plain old 92%. I’ll assume you got a 75% on your lab. That would bring your grade down to a 92.2%. Then, you would need to get a 99.8% on the next test and quiz to get a 93% overall before the exam. To be able to get a 89% on the exam and still get a 93% overall (I assume that a 93% is an A), you will need to get a 94.3% overall before the exam, in which case you will need a 111.7% average on your next test and quiz. If you want to get a 90% overall and you assume you get a 89% on the exam, you will need to get a 90.3% before the exam, in which case you will need a 75% average on the next test and quiz. Now, let’s assume that you get a 95% on the exam. You will need to get a 92.3% overall before the exam to get a 93% overall after the exam, in which case you will need to average a 93.7% on the next test and quiz.

Hi there, my course is graded on 4 exams, 3 lecture exams (100 points) and 1 finale (150 points). I have take 2 so far and scored a 78 points and a 44 points (terrible, I know), and to receive a C in the class I have to have a percent of 73 or higher. My question is, what would I have to get on my next 2 exams to receive a 73 percent or higher. I did the math and want to make sure I was correct, thanks for your time and your website!

Sincerely, one stressed out student

Roger: You will need to average a 85% on the next 2 exams in order to bring your grade up to a 73% after taking those exams. (I’m ignoring the effect of your final and the other exams you have, since you indicated that you were only concerned with your next 2 exams.)

I'm getting a 90 percent in my class at the moment. I have 1 part of the exam which is 25% of the mark and another which is 5%. What will I need on both exams to maintain a 90 percent?, Thanks.

Roger: You will have to get a 90% average on your exam to maintain the 90%. The average, however, is heavily weighted toward the 25% of your exam. If you, for example, get an 88% on the first part of your exam, you must get 100% on the second part to average a 90% on it. On the other hand, if you get a 93% on the first part, you only need a 75% on the second part.

I have 76% in math right now, and I want to get at least an A which is 86%. We have one final test to change our final mark. Tests are worth 60%. What do I need to get at least 86%?

Roger: Hi Alana. It depends on 1) how many tests you have taken, and 2) your current test average. Once you find out these two numbers, you can use the calculator labeled “My final counts as a test” and put in 76% in the first box, 86% in the second box, 60% in the third box, and 1 in the sixth box. The fourth and fifth box correspond to the two remaining things that you need to specify.

Hi Roger,

My current grade in my class is 70. I have 8 Homework which counts 30% of a grade and 10% that counts as reading response.

Let's say I got 8/10 0n 8 of the remaining HW and got 10% on all remaining reading responses. My final grade is 10% and let's say I only get 40 on that. What will be my final grade?

Roger: I think you may misunderstand how your grade is calculated, but I will answer your question anyway. Your final grade will be 73%.

Hello! So for my Pharm class, the final exam is worth 20% and all I was told was that if I didn't even write the exam I would have gotten 54% and 60% is a pass. What would I have needed to have gotten on the final exam to get a grade of 60%?

Roger: Well, we can extrapolate that your current grade is a 67.5%, so you would need a 30% on the exam to get a grade of 60% overall.

My overall grade is an 83.7%

My grade is separated into Tests (20%), Quizzes (20%), Homework (20%), and Classwork (20%). I currently have a 66.15% in Tests, 85.25% in Quizzes, 100% in Homework, and 91.5% in Classwork. My average grade in the class is 85.7%.

I have taken 3 tests so far, with scores of 27/40, 16/25, and 29/40. I have taken 10 quizzes so far, with scores of 19, 13, 18.5, 19, 17, 18, 19, 17, 14, and 16, all out of 20.

If I have 2 tests and 4 quizzes left in the semester, what is the average score I need in on the tests and the average score I need on the quizzes to bring my grade up to a 90%?

I also have a final worth 20% of my grade. As of now, what would I need on the final to get a 90% in the class?

Roger: You will need to average a 93.0% on your two remaining tests, four remaining quizzes, and final to get a 90% overall. Now, let’s say you predict you can only get around ~89% on the final. If so, you would need to average 98.9% on the remaining tests and quizzes. On the other hand, if you think you can get a 96% on the final, you only need to average a 88.7% on your remaining tests and quizzes. Does that give you a rought idea about what grades you need? (A high grade on the final is the most important thing right now.)

Hi, I'm worried about passing my statistics class, I need at least a 69.5 to pass! we are at the half way mark in this course and I have not completed all homework assignments yet but I know I will have a score in homework of at least 95% . The two binders are worth a total of 10% and its an all or nothing grade so I will have that full 10%.
Homework is worth 10% (as of right now I have a 99.7)
binder 1 is worth 5% (I got a 100%)
binder 2 is worth 5% (I got a 100%)
exam 1 is 15% (I received a 76.01%)
exam 2 is 15% (I received a 69.7%)
exam 3 is 15% (haven't taken yet)
exam 4 is 15% (haven't taken yet)
Final in 20% (haven't taken yet)

then we receive an extra 2% if we have a homework average of 95%

What do I need to get on the next 3 tests in order to pass with a 69.5

Roger: You need to average a 55.3% on the next 3 tests to pass with a 69.5% overall. To get a 79.5% overall, you only need a 75.3% on the next 3 tests. To get an 89.5% overall, you need to average a 95.3% on the next 3 tests. Does that give you an idea about where you are?

I have a 74% and the grades end tomorrow.. I want to at least get a B... If I turn in and get 100% on 1 homework.. Can I lift my grade into a B? It is worth 40%

Roger: It sounds like your homework assignments are worth 40% altogether. Is that right? If so, you cannot raise your grade to a B with just 1 assignment. The 100% assignment must be worth at least 23% of your grade by itself.

Roger: Moving from a B+ to an A- is extremely hard at the end of the semester. If you get a very high score on your last test, you may have a shot. Good luck.

Hi! I have one test and one final remaining before the end of the trimester. Tests are worth 80% of my grade, and the final is worth 15%. I need to know what I need on these two things for an A.
A is 92.5
I have 90.9
My test percentage is 88.3
I have taken 8 tests so far
Next Test is worth 40 points with a one point opportunity for extra credit
Final is worth 100 points
Let me know if you need anything else!

Roger: It appears that you have a 132.5% in homework/classwork. Is that right? If so, you need to average a 96.6% on the 15% final and that last test to score a 92.5% overall.

Roger: To get a 75% overall, you will need to average a 83.18% on the rest of your assignments. (I’m assuming that those 3 grades are worth the same amount as the sum of your current coursework, and that there is an additional 10% final aside from all of that.)

I currently have a 77% in my chemistry class. We have 4 exams, each worth 10% of our grade, with the lowest exam being dropped. So far, I've gotten

Test #1: 77%
Test #2: 52%
Test #3: 48% <----this exam was dropped
Test #4: ? ?? (taking next week)

Final Exam: ? <---worth .20% of grade

What do I need to make on test #4 and the final exam to get a 70% in the class? There are other areas obviously, like labs and homework, but if I solely just went off exams, what would I need for both?

Thanks!

Second test: 98

Third test: 87

Fourth test: 90

My quizzes grades are: 19/20, 29/30, 18/20, 20/20, 19/20, 17/20, 19/20, 18/20, 17/20 and I got 10/10 on 4 Homeworks.

Well we are on Unit 5 right now, so I have taken about 4 test. My test average over all those test is an 82, but that was the only one I did bad on. An by other categories in my grade what do you mean?

Roger: By “other categories in your grade”, I mean to ask if there is a separate Final category that has no assignments in it yet. I’ll assume that it doesn’t exist. It looks like it is impossible for you to have a 54% on your report card and an 82% in your test average. Are you sure those numbers are correct? You would need a -11.6% in the remaining 20% category.

Emily

Hi...Well this is the first time ever in my life that I got a 54/f on my report card, and well I was wondering. If in geometry I make an 80% on my next test, and the test is worth 80% of my grade...what will my grade go up to?
Please answer, I am literally freaked out right now.

Roger: Hi Emily. It depends on how many tests you have already taken and what your test average is. Also, what are the other categories in your grade?

Anonymous

My test grades are :
71/71. 49/58 . 55.5/60 14/22 and 25/26 and 48/50

Tests are worth 95% of my grade and homework is worth 5 %.

Assuming that I had had 5/6 homework assignments in, what is my grade?

Roger: Are all your tests equally weighted? Or are those values {71, 58, 60, 22, 26, 50} the weights of each test? If they are equally weighted, your grade is 88.5%. If they are not equally weighted, your grade is 91.1%.

I have a 94 in AP bio, and the final goes into our assessments category, which is 55% of our grade. However it consists of both quizzes and test, and there are 8 of them in that category. The final IS a test, but will it still count as only one test considering there are both tests and quizzes?

Roger: It depends on how much your quizzes are worth in comparison to your tests, and how many of each that you’ve taken.

The Weight System:
Final Exam - 18%
Homework - 10%
Participation - 5%
Quiz - 22%
Test - 45%

My scores:
Final Exam - undecided
Homework - undecided (estimate of 98/100 points)
Participation - undecided (estimate of 95/100 points)
Quiz - 190/225 points, but 1 (50 point) quiz has not been taken.
Test - 252/300 points, but 2 (100 point) tests have not been taken.

My current grade is 86%.
What are my goals for the upcoming tests/quiz/final exam so that I can have above a 90%?

Roger: If you average a 94% on your Final, your two tests, and your quiz, you will have a 90% overall. Let’s say that you get 100% on the quiz though. Then, you will need to average a 93.25% on the Final and the two remaining tests. If you score 100% on one of the tests, you will need to average a 92.16% on the Final, the last quiz, and the other test. Does that give you a rough idea?

i have a 96.5% average and i got a 68% on my test. the tests are worth 20% of our total grade. what would that bring my new average to?

Roger: It depends on your current test average and how many tests you’ve taken so far.
