Hi Roger, I have been trying to make a google spreadsheet (since my school won't let me use Excel) to auto calculate my final score needed as I update the grade. Unfortunately, when I use the formula you provide, the number doesn't come up correct.

I have 4 major assignment each worth 25%. I made a 80 on my first one & on my second one I made a 70. So what do I have to make on my last two assignments to get a overall B.

You can't just say: I have x% in the class if I get x% on test what is my grade? There are too many unknowns: how much is the test worth, what % of the grade is already in, etc. Use some logic! Maybe you will get better test scores.

1. if i get an 85% on a quiz that is worth 30% of my final grade how many points will be taken off my final grade?
2. if i get 100% on hw that is worth 15% of my final grade how many points will be added?

Roger: The answer to both questions depends on (1) your current overall grade, (2) your current average score in each category (quizzes or homeworks), (3) how many quizzes/homeworks have been graded so far, (4) whether each quiz/homework is worth an equal fraction of their respective categories, and (5) whether you have any empty categories in your grade.
