Hi Roger, I would really appreciate your help in calculating my final grade so I can know if I need to retake my final or just let it ride. My final exam is 60% of my grade, the mid term is 25% of my grade and quizzes are 15% and I need a 70 to pass the class. I got a 61 on the final, a 75 on the midterm and a 90 on all the quizzes. Would this be a passing grade of 70? Thank you so much! Sam

Roger: Your overall grade should be a 68.85%.

Hi can you please help me? So my mark in Chemistry is currently a 65% (horrible I know). My final exam is in a few days and it is worth 30%. Ive been studying hard, but a random question just occurred to me just now, what if I completely bomb the exam and got nothing right, what would my final mark be? Thank you! I hope you can get back to be ASAP.

Roger: If you score zero on your final, your overall grade should drop to a 45.5%.

Hey Roger, what have you used to make this website? I see you used to use WordPress "...but [not] anymore." So what are you using? Or is it 100% custom?

Thank you very much!

Roger: Check out this blog post.

Thanks Roger

Lol, the teachers at school really hate you (because they think if the calculator says we need to get a low score to pass, we won't study for their class [which is true lol])
but the students in all of my classes worship you, because you are the one true savior of our grades
thanks for helping me pass spanish, algebra 2 honors, and bio :,)
i'll be back next school year, as will everyone else! lmao rogerhub becomes the most popular website when it gets near finals

Roger: Haha. Is it a matter of pride to make students study? Maybe abolishing fixed grade thresholds would eliminate a lot of these problems. Some of my college courses didn’t set the letter grade thresholds until after the course was over.

Hey Roger,

Your website has really inspired me to take on some projects. I'm working on a significant robotics project right now, but I want to make a website like yours! I have made a game in raw JavaScript: laserhell.site11.com. I plan to improve it a lot. I also have some ideas for tools I really want and really want to make that are similar to your final grade calculator. Thanks for inspiring me, I think I will make one website with all of these things on it. Do you suggest I use WordPress? I think WordPress seems good if its themes and whatnot take care of the art side of it.

Best,
Ben

Roger: Glad to hear! I used to use WordPress, but don’t any longer. I think that unless you want to start a blog, WordPress creates more headaches than it’s worth. If you’re only making JavaScript apps, I’d recommend using a static site generator and a free web hosting service like GitHub Pages.

So I have a 83.17 in my Geometry class, and my final is worth 10% of our grade. But my lowest test grade is being replaced with a 89, and my lowest test grade is a 62/100. So what do I need to get on the final to maintain a B?

Roger: It depends on how much your tests are worth, how many tests you’ve taken so far, and your current test average. Try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

I am freaking out. I have a 60% in history and I only have 4 quizzes, a unit test, and a final exam. If I got A's and B's on all that I listed before the end of the class, would it bring it up enough to have an overall of 85%??

Roger: Sounds unlikely. The exact answer depends on how much those grades are worth. Try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to help.

Roger,
I have a 90.94% which is 291 out of 320 points in art. Our final project is out of 100 points. What do I need to get on the project to finish the class with a 89.70? And how many points can I miss on the final project?

Roger: You’ll need to score at least 78.18 points out of 100 on your project to get a 89.70% overall.

Hey Roger!

My tests together are worth 40% of my grade. My average test grade is 75, my lowest score is 60. The final is worth 10% and our lowest test grade gets dropped. I also have a second practical. Together they are worth 25%. I got a 91 on the first one. I have a class average of 85. I would like a 90 in the class. What do I need to get on my second practical and final to get a 90? Sorry, I know this was a lot!

Roger: The answer depends on how many tests you’ve taken so far. Try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

I have three upcoming exams, if I score a 90% on the three of them and a 80% on the midterm exam what will be my final grade?

Roger,
you should add a function to save the class setup in advanced mode so you can change the category grades each time you have a new grade. that way you dont have to keep setting it up every time you get a new grade. just a suggestion!

Roger: Thanks for the feedback! The calculator purposefully doesn’t have any kind of persistence between sessions right now. There are probably privacy implications around storing student educational records in the United States. Storing them in your browser is an option, but introduces potentially unintuitive and confusing behavior. I’ll look into whether it’s possible to implement something like this safely, but I hope this provides some insight.

hi roger, im really desperate lol

i have a 91 in calc but i recently just recived a real F on the most recent test. tests are worth 50% of our grades and i have one chapter test left before the final. finals are worth 15% of our grades.

how much will my grade drop and what could i get on the next test and the final in order to get myself back up to at least a B?

thanks roger :(

Roger: How many tests have you taken so far? And what did you score on them? Try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

Hi roger! So i’m currently at a 90% and I’ve only had one test and that test i got was 4/12. And that 4/12 is worth 30% of my grade. How much would that 90% go down by?

Roger: It depends on how much of your grade is accounted for so far. For example, if your “90%” grade represents 50% of your grade, then your overall grade should go down to a 68.75%.

Hey Roger!
My grade right now in Biology is a 65.65%. I need a 70% to pass the class. I still have 2 test left and the final exam. Test 1 I got a 48%, test 2 I got a 50%, and test 3 I got a 66%.
All 5 total test are 50% of my total grade for the class (100%).
The final exam is 10% of my total grade.
What are the lowest test scores I can get on test 4, 5, and final exam in order to pass the class with a 70%?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 72.8% on your 2 remaining tests and your final exam to raise your overall grade to a 70%.

My math mark before the exam is 75%. My last exam will be worth 30% of my final mark. What % do I need to get on the exam to finish with a 70% final

Roger: You’ll need to score at least a 58.3% on your last exam to get a 70% overall.

My average grade for both semesters is 45.8 perfect I need a 50 to pass. The final exam is only added to the average grade and nothing is taken away from the 45.8 (essentially it’s what you get without doing the exam) I scored a 33.333 percent on my final worth 20 percent. How much will my mark go up?

Roger: That sounds a bit strange, but I suppose your overall grade should go up by 6.67 percentage points to a 52.47%.

I get to drop one assignment of choice with the lowest score but I can’t decide which will have more of a positive impact on my grade.

Assignment #1 falls into the “essay” category weighted at 40%. My current average is 96%, my lowest score is an 87% and there are a total of 16
Assignments in that category.

Or

The other option falls in the “test” category weighted at 35%. My current average is 95.58%, my lowest score is a 70% and there are 6 assignments.

Which assignment should I drop that would be beat for my grade?

Roger: I’d say that dropping your lowest test grade is almost certainly more helpful. If you want more details, try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer this question.

Hi Roger!
I was wondering why you've chosen not to have ads on this site, with the number of hits it must get.
You help out so many students so much and it would be cool to know you get something out of it too. Thanks for everything!

If anyone else needs to calculate what percent they'd need on their final plus the final grade replaces the lowest test score you need to calculate

P=percent needed on final

(%final is worth of final grade x P) + (% other sections are worth x grade in those sections) + (percent test section is worth) x ([(% gotten on previous tests x points that test was worth) + (P x points the lowest test grade was worth)]/total points in test section)

.... I think

Roger: By the way, the Final Grade Calculator already handles this. Try out either the option labeled “My lowest test grade is dropped” or the option labeled “I need something else”. Both of them should be able to answer this question.
