hi roger! just wanted to let you know I've been a fan since... maybe my freshman year of high school? I'm now a freshman at Berkeley studying EECS! i love reading your blog and keeping up with your anilist :) i hope you a happy and healthy new year!!!

PLEASE HeLp I am very confident usually but my gpa and sat and everything is garbage i dont know if i will make it into a prestigious or even half decent college and then my asian parents will be disappointed. I will have a 3.8 weighted GPA after the end of the year and a 3.57 unweighted. I will take a total of 5 AP courses (including seniors year) and 4 honors courses. My SAT atm is 1360 but I am taking 3 more (i was going to take more but one got cancelled over winter because COVID i hate myself) and hope to get it up to at least a 1420-1450. Also, I took SAT Math 1 and got a 700, and will take Math 1 again as well as Math 2 (people are saying i should just take math 2 and not math 1 is that right?). The issue is i have 2 C's and a D on my transcript (I got pneumonia over second semester sophomore year and missed over a month and now i hate myself my grades are terrible) and my grades were only average at best to begin with. For clubs I am captain of chess team, skillsusa state team, honors business society member (do honors society even help?) and apart of marching band. I don't have 40 hours of volunteering yet but i should be able to get it. Also, I may (not very likely but i have an opportunity) to get an internship. Will I be able to make it into Purdue or UIUC or San Diego University or University of Wisconsin or University of Minnesota Twin Cities or University of Michigan or Boston university or Berkeley or Carnegie or am i just a burden to society and my parents

Hey Roger! I got a 7 out of 15 on a test. The test is worth 15 points and I had 100. What grade do I have now?

Roger: Well, if you had 100 points, and you got 7 more, then all I can say is that you now have 107 points. Or did you mean to say that your current overall grade is 100%? In that case, the answer depends on how many points you have total.

do UCs look at senior courses and marks??

Roger: Applications are due before your senior grades are available, but I think the application does ask you about which courses you’re planning to take during your senior year.

if i’m applying to UCs from another state where the gpa scale might be different, do they calculate my gpa based on their scale or my states? also what’s the california high school gpa scale

for ex. 80-89 = 3.7 90-100 = 4.0 etc ????

Roger: The UC’s expect your transcript to have letter grades. I’m not sure what they’d do if your transcript is formatted differently.
