Hey Roger, so I got a 50% on my classwork but my teacher is counting it as a test which is worth 30% of my grade. I have a 80% so what is my grade now?

Roger: The answer depends on how many tests you’ve taken as well as your current test average. Also, what are the other categories in your grade?

I'm getting a 66 in my math class, the term is worth 70% and the exam is worth 25% (there is a 5% worth summative I just took today that lowered my mark from a 68 to a 66). The final grade calculator says I need 2% on my exam to JUST PASS (50% overall). But my friends claim that because my 66 only counts to the 70% term, 66 isnt my true grade and it is infact below 50 (66 x 0.7 = 46.2)—and that I'll need well above a 50% instead of a 2% on the exam to JUST PASS. Is this true?

Roger: 2% sounds about right. Try calculating this: 66%×75% + 2%×25%. You should get 50.0%.

So it's the second semester and the grades just started over so I have a 100 and I have a project due tomorrow and I didn't do it how much do you think this will affect my grade also it's the first grade if the semester

Roger: If it’s the first grade of the semester, then your overall grade will be equal to your project grade.

My final grade is a 74 if I do not submit any other work including if I do not take my final. However, I will take my final to increase my score. What do I need to score on my final (worth 20%) to get at least an 85?

Roger: I’m not sure I understand your question, but it sounds like you need to score at least 11/20 (55%) on your final exam to raise your overall grade to an 85.0%.

Hey Roger, thank you so much for this website. I have it memorized and always recommend it to anyone that needs to calculate their grades/ see what they need to earn on the test to achieve a certain grade. I have a question and some feedback:

Q: I saw you talk a lot about deviations in the other comments, what is this?
F: In your final grade calculator users have the option to select the advanced program. I think you should have users select all the options that apply and then type in the names for each parts of the grade. After this it should display all five (or whatever #) and allow you to change all the values in one spot, rather than having to keep clicking back. Ex:
Exam 1 (x%) ~~~~> __?__ grade
Exam 2 (x%) ~~~~> __?__ needed:
Recitation (x%) ~~> __?__ 85%
Attendance (x%) ~~> __?__
Final Exam (x%) ~~> __?__

This would be visually appealing and a little easier imo. Also, sorry if the formatting is a lil f’d up.

Roger: The standard deviation is a measure of how “spread out” a set of numbers are. It’s measured in the same units as the numbers themselves and in a normal distribution, about 68% of the values lie within one standard deviation of the mean. Thanks for the feedback about the Final Grade Calculator! The advanced mode generates its questions dynamically. In other words, your answers to previous questions determine which questions the calculator will ask next. Because of this, it’s difficult to present more than one type of question on a single screen while still making the calculator easy to use and maintain. I’ll take your feedback into consideration, but I hope this helps explain why the advanced mode feels very linear.

My teacher said if i get a good grade on the final he will replace one of my bad test grades with the grade i got on the final. Is there a calculator for that?

Roger: The Final Grade Calculator has a mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

Roger, I want to apologize on behalf of my school district; the computers they distribute to us come with an Ad-blocker. Based on the volume of kids that use this, you are missing out on a lot of moolah. Welp, whatever.

Hey Roger (: I'd like to ask if you know how much a final is worth on Power School! The assignment itself says 100 points is possible. So does that mean the final is worth 100% of my grade?

Roger: That doesn’t sound right. Have you tried the calculator mode labeled “My class has a point system”? It might be able to answer your question.

roger im just wondering Lol
Sun, 17 Dec 2017 23:24:17 GMT

how many "stupid" questions do you get? like the one under me lol. i 've seen so many of those exact types of comments where people have no idea what theyre saying

Roger: I think most questions either don’t offer enough information or contain conflicting information (at least more than half). But in all fairness, knowing the required inputs usually gets you most of the way to the answer itself.

Hey i need help , I have a 68.21 in my class I’m gonna take the semester exam and I was wondering what I would need to make on it to get my grade to a 70

Roger: It depends on how much your semester exam is worth as a fraction of your overall grade.

Hi!
Here's my Physics grade breakdown:
5% attendance -> my grade: 100%
40% homework -> my grade: 99%
20% midterm -> my grade: B+ (my score was 60/100, the average was 54/100, the standard deviation was 18, and the exam was curved so that 54 was a B)
35% final -> haven't taken it yet
Additional note: my professor curves every portion of the grade breakdown, even the homework. He says that he "offsets" the curve of the homework since it usually has a much much narrower standard deviation than the midterms. I have no clue what this means. And, I think he curves the total grades of the students as well (?) Also, he said that he usually expects half the class to receive an overall score of B+.
Based on these figures, two questions:
1) Would my high score on the homeworks boost my grade at all, assuming the class had a homework average of around 95%?
2) What letter grade do I need on my final (B+/A-/A) to get an overall A in the class?
Sorry for writing so much, but I'm just a lost and confused first year!

Hi Roger,
If I have a paper due soon and it's worth 19 percent (190 points) of my grade...
The grading is set up like this...

Introduction - 10 points (1%) I got a 100 on that assignment

The discussions are worth 100 points each and my professor made us do 5 of them with is counted towards 50% of my grade. My grades for those assignment were 99, 100, 99, 75, 99

The assignments are worth 60 points each, he made us do 5 assignments..they are counted towards 30% of my grade. My grades for those 5 assignment were 59, 59, 60, 60, 59

The final paper, which is the assignment I'm working on is worth 19% (190), my unweighted grade in the class is 783.95/810. What do I need on the paper in order to get at least an 80 percent.
I'm debating on whether I should do it or not or make some effort, the paper is supposed to be approximately 17 pages long.

Roger: Based on your individual scores, it seems like your overall grade should be 779/810, not 783.95/810. But I’ll assume that the latter is more accurate. In that case, you’ll need to score at least a 8.4% on your paper to get a 80.0% overall.

Hello Roger, I am wondering that how much this quiz I recently took will bring up my grade.

The weight of the quiz is 20%
My overall grade is a 77.4
I got on the quiz a 90%

Will it bring it up to a B-?
If not what would it bring it up to?

Roger: How many other quizzes have you taken so far? What did you score on them? And what are the other categories in your grade?

I literally spend more time on this site calculating what my final grade would be instead of studying for my exams. Nevertheless, this site calms down my anxiety before taking a test. Thanks for creating such a useful tool for all students + more!

Just curious, did you spend a lot of time on this site when you were in college as well?

Much love from a nursing student

Roger: You’re welcome! My college classes didn’t have fixed grade buckets, so I couldn’t really use my own calculator. Instead, I just aimed to score at least 1.5 standard deviations above the mean on exams.

Roger can you add a mode in the final grade calculator that shows your possible grades as a curve on a graph depending on your different score on a final?

Roger: That curve is really just a line, where the slope depends on how much your final is worth. Does that still seem useful?

hello Roger!

I have a 52 in my anatomy class right now and I have an assignment worth 10%, a quiz worth 10% and my final exam worth 35%. I need a 60 to pass the class what would I need to get on those three things to pass my class please help!!

Roger: Is your assignment worth 10% of your overall grade by itself? Or is it part of an “assignments” category that’s altogether worth 10% of your grade? (And ditto for your quiz.) Also, try out the calculator mode labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

Hi Roger, I was wondering if you can help calculate my math grade.

I got

-74% on my 1st midterm, 98% on 2nd and 90 on the last one. They are each worth 15 percent of my overall grade.

My final exam is worth 45% of my grade.
Homework is worth 10percent (I got 70)

Homework marks won’t count if I don’t get at least a 50percent on my midterm and exam.

What will I need to get on my final exam?

Roger: Your current overall grade should be a 84.2%. What’s your target overall grade? If you want to get a 90.0% overall, then you’ll need to score at least a 97.1% on your final. If you want an 80.0% overall, you’ll need to score at least a 74.9% on your final. Hope this helps!

Hey roger , I have an 80 as my Aveage in a class, what grade do I need to get on my exam to maintain the 80 or make it go higher ?

Roger: It depends on exactly how your exam is factored into your overall grade. If you have a special “final exam” category just for your exam, then you’ll need to score at least 80% on it to get an 80% overall.

Hey Roger, I have taken two tests so far in the semester and I still have one more to take that’s 30 points. I was wondering how I can pull up my 78% in English to 80%. My first test I got a 75/100 and second test I got 75/75. What do I need on the next test ?

Roger: How much are your tests worth? Are each of your tests worth the same amount? Or are some tests more important than others, depending on their point value? How many points do you have total?

Hi roger,

I was reading your blog and I have to say you think something cool thoughts my friend. A few questions. What did you use to build this site? Wordpress, weebly, notepad and html? What do you use to host this website?

I am asking because I have a site of my own, just as a writing portfolio/archive hosted on weebly, but I was considering something a bit more independent now that I purchased my own domain name.

Thanks,
Thomas B.

Roger: This blog post gives a little context about how I run this website. Take a look and let me know if you have any specific questions.
