Hello, in a class with 375 possible points, 300 are from 3 tests of 100 points each. The remaining 75 are for other accumulated work. I already have 15/15, 7/10, and 4/10 from those 75 (40 possible points remaining). On the first test I got a 57.5/100 and I have 2 tests remaining. Each is worth 26.6% of the grade. My question is; is it possible to achieve a B? If so, what do I have to get in each test + the remaining points? Thank you a lot.

Roger: You have 83.5 points out of 135 possible points, which is a 61.9%. In order to get an 80% overall, you’ll need to score 300 out of 375 points. So, if you average at least a 90.2% (216.5 out of 240) on the remaining 2 tests and accumulated work, then you’ll be able to raise your grade to a B.

Hey Rodger,

I have a 77 in literacy and I just turned in 2 worksheets that are worth 20% of my grade. What will I need to average on both of those to get a 80% in literacy?

Roger: Do you have any more assignments after those 2 worksheets? The answer depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. Let’s assume that (including your worksheets) you’ve completed 70% of your assignments. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 87.5% on your worksheets to raise your grade to an 80%.

I have an 88.75 in math and I got a 60 in on a test What is my average now?

Roger: It depends on how much that test is worth. Needless to say, your average is between a 60% and a 88.75%.

Hi there! If I were to receive 0% on a midterm which was worth 20% of my final grade, what grades, on average, would I need to pass the course? If you need more specific information, the remaining categories that have yet to be done are plan de travail (10%), dissertation (30%), final examen (40%). I just want to know what grades/average I'll need to pass with a 0 on that 20% midterm ☺️

Roger: What overall percentage grade is required to pass the course? It varies from course to course. Let’s say that you need to get at least a 60% overall to pass the course. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 75% on the rest of your assignments to pass.

there are 4 exams 3 out of the 4 are worth 60% while the final is 30% and hw is 10%. for exam 1 i got 20/100 and exam 2 i got 48/100 and my hw is about 10%. what will i need to get a 60 in the class.

Roger: Your homework score is 10%? I assume you meant 100% instead. (How could you possibly have a 10% in homework??) In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 72.8% on your 3rd exam and your final exam to get a 60% overall. If you actually do have a 10% in homework, then you’ll need to average at least a 90.8% on your 3rd exam and your final exam to get a 60% overall.

I have a 42% right now and need at least a 65 to pass. Tests are 70% of our grade. What do I need on my next test to get my average to at least 60-65

Roger: It depends on (1) how many tests you’ve taken so far, (2) your current test average, and (3) whether you have any empty categories in your grade (for example, a “Participation” category that has nothing in it yet).

Hello Roger, I was wondering.. if I have a 61 in my report card right now.. and if I got an 80 on a test that is worth 40%.. for how many points will my grade go up in my report card?

Roger: The answer depends on whether you have any more assignments to be included in your grade. If your test is the only remaining score to be included in your grade, then it will bring your overall grade up to a 68.6%. (If you actually do have more assignments after your test, then this answer will be an underestimate.)

I currently have a 40% in the class and I just need a D to get my degree. (I know that sounds terrible...)

We have 3 tests left, all worth 100 points.
And one final worth 20% of the grade.
What would I need to do to get that D lol

Roger: It depends on how many points you have so far. For example, let’s say that your 40% is actually 200 out of 500 points. In that case, each of your tests will be 10% (100 points) and your final will be 200 points (20%). You’ll need to average at least an 80% on your 3 remaining tests and your final exam to get a 60% overall.

This may sound like a stupid question but I have a quarterly assessment and its worth 10% of my math grade. I currently have a 67 and I plan on redoing a grade I did bad on to hopefully get up to 70% or more. So will my quarterly assessment bring me up to an 80% if I get an A? Or is there something Im missing that will give me less points than that?

Roger: The exact answer depends on whether you have any more assignments after your quarterly assessment. If your quarterly assessment is the last assignment that’s part of your overall grade, then scoring 100% will raise your overall grade from 70% to a 73%. Your overall grade won’t go up all the way to an 80%. (If that doesn’t make sense to you, then think about it this way: What if your overall grade were a 95%? If you got 100% on your quarterly assessment, would your grade go up to a 105%? No! That’s clearly not right.)

I have a 100 in my math class. What do I have to make on my midterm and final to keep an A if each is worth 20 percent?

Roger: It depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. For example, if your “100%” overall grade represents 15% of your total coursework, then you’ll need to average at least a 86.3% on your midterm and final to get a 90% overall. But if your “100%” overall grade represents 60% of your total coursework, then you’ll need to average at least a 75% on your midterm and final to get a 90% overall.

My grade in my Math class is a 76 and I just took a test and tests are worth 60 percent of my grade. Is this calculator accurate? Will my grades that are currently in help it weight differently? If I got less then a 66 is it still possible for me to have a c in the class?

Roger: Well, just keep these two ideas in mind: (1) your test isn’t worth 60% of your grade by itself if you’ve taken more than one test, and (2) if you have any empty categories in your grade (like a special “Final Exam” category that has nothing in it), then each of your non-empty categories will be worth proportionally more when calculating your current overall grade. Depending on those two factors, your current grade may be either higher or lower than a C. In the case of a final exam, we can ignore those two ideas because (1) the final exam is assumed to have its own category, and (2) the final exam is (typically) the last assignment to be graded in a course.

I have a 72.86% in English, the end of the quarter is this coming Friday!!!!!!!! I had one essay assigned a while ago and my grade still isn't in. Even if it does go in the grade book around at least a 90% what would my overall grade be??? Do you think if I talked to my teacher one-on-one she would let me have extra credit in that subject to get the last of my grades above a 95%????

Roger: It depends on how much your essay is worth and whether you have any more assignments before the end of the quarter. When asking for extra credit, I think you should always have something prepared to offer in exchange. Teachers don’t like handing out extra points, because nothing prevents all the other students from asking for the same deal. But instead, if you ask to retake an exam or take on an extra course-related project, then you’ll have a better chance. Good luck!

Hey Roger,
I got 78% on a test which is worth 14% of mark. My average before was an 89% which is worth one percent. What would be overall average be?
Thanks

Roger: In that case, your test will be worth 14/15 (93.3%) of your current overall grade. Your current overall average is a 78.7%.

30.0
15.0
30.0
25.0

I have more assignment to do. What is my percentage grade for now?

Hey Roger! So this is in addition to my previous post... I ended up getting a 54 on my first exam worth 20%. Professor says that the first exam is her most difficult and that I can still definitely get a B in the course... grading is as follows:

Exam 1: 20% (I got a 54)
Exam 2: 20% (Unknown Grade)
Final: 30% (Unknown Grade)
Online Quizzes: 20% (So far my lowest is a 90. Atleast two per month. Took 3 already)
Participation: 10% (Probably getting it all)

Now my question is, what do I need to score on the next two exams in order to atleast average at an 82-85 for the course? Professor says it's absolutely possible but I would assume only if I get 100 or 95 on them both.

Roger: I conservatively estimated that your online quiz average will be a 90%. You’ll need to average at least a 86.4% to 92.4% to get an 82% to 85% in the course. The actual answer is probably slightly lower, if you get higher than a 90% in your online quizzes. By the way, your current overall grade (including those estimated online quizzes and participation grades) is a 77.6%. If you put in “77.6%”, “82%”, and “50%” into the Final Grade Calculator, it’ll tell you that you need a 86.4%. (Similar dealio with “77.6%”, “85%”, and “50%”.) The “50%” figure comes from the sum of your 2nd exam (20%) and Final (30%).

Hi!
I got a 62% and a 63% in my last two tests worth about 18.75% of the grade each. I still have to take 2 more tests worth the same. There's also a 25% for other assignments which the professor hasn't assigned. What grades do I need to get in order to get an 80% (B)? Thanks!

Roger: Your current grade is a 62.5%. You’ll need to average at least a 90.5% on your 2 remaining tests and other assignments to get an 80% overall. Now let’s say that you get a 95% in your “other assignments” category. In that case, you’ll only need to average a 87.5% on your 2 remaining tests. Hope this helps!

well i got a 44% on my exam and without my exam in i had a 81% my grade dropped down to a 69% how is this possible when i calculated it, the calculator said m grade should be a 77%

Roger: That’s because it was a regular exam, not the final exam. Although your exam was only worth 10% of your grade, it actually counts for 33% of your current grade, because you’ve only completed 30% of your coursework so far (exam included). The good news is that, if you average a 81% on the rest of your assignments, then your class grade will actually end up as a 77%.

If this sounds confusing, try thinking of it this way: Let’s say I have a cake that has 9 slices of chocolate and 1 slice of eggplant. I would say that cake is still pretty good (90% good, to be exact), because only 1 part in 10 is eggplant. But consider the same cake, except somebody took 7 of the chocolate slices. Now, you’re left with 2 slices chocolate and 1 slice eggplant. That case is now a lot nastier, even though the amount of eggplant didn’t change.

If I have a 67% in history and I'm missing an assignment worth 10 points and assignments are worth 15% percent of your grade what will my grade be if I turn in the assignment

Roger: It depends on (1) how many points are in your assignments category, and (2) whether you have any empty categories in your grade, like a “Participation” category that has no score assigned to it.

I have an 88% Average in Math and I want to bring it up to a 90%. How much will 5 extra credit points help?

Roger: It depends on how many points you have total. For example, if your current grade were a 264 out of 300, then 5 extra credit points would bring it up to a 269 out of 300 (89.7%).

I have a 97% based on participation and attendance and 3 quizzes we have done that were worth 10 points and they are graded based on completion. I got a 72% on my midterm, what is my grade now ? A C ?

I have a 94.50 in class. I have a paper that is worth 300 points but only 10% of my grade. I have over 25 more assignments also. I would still be able to get an A if I got a 0, right?

Roger: If you get a 0 on your paper, then the maximum grade you’ll be able to obtain is a 90%. (Actually, it would be significantly lower than that, because your current overall grade isn’t 100%.)

Hello again,

My current test average is a 44.67. I've never done this badly in a class before. :(

Here is my comment from last time:

I have a 59 in a class right now, and we have 2 more tests left. We have had 3 tests so far. Tests are worth 70% of the total grade. What do I need to get on those tests to get a final grade of at least at B (80%)?

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 119.7% on your next 2 tests to get a 80% overall. If you want a 70% overall instead, then you’ll need to average at least a 84.0% on your next 2 tests.

I am trying to calculate my over all class grade. I have a 95% in H.W. assignments, 76% in in-class, and 81% on exams.

unfortunately I missed on day of class and a worksheet worth 10 pts. was collected that I was unable to turn in the next class period...of course! So even though I have received 100% on all of my in-class quizzes, missing that one day really effected my in-class percentage. Luckily it is still early and two quiz grades have yet to be graded.

H.W = 200pts
In-Class= 100pts
Exmas= 300pts

what is my over all grade?

Roger: Based on those point values, your overall grade should be a 84.8%. Your 10 point worksheet would be worth about 1.7% of your current overall grade. Getting a zero on that worksheet would bring your overall grade down to a 83.4%.

I got a 68% on my first midterm which is worth 25.5 %
my second midterm is worth %25.5
my final is worth 45%
What do I need to get at least 88% so I can keep my scholarship?

Roger: Your three exams only add up to 96% of your grade. I’ll assume you have a 4% “participation” category and that you’ll receive full credit in participation. In that case, you’ll need to average at least a 94.6% on your 2nd midterm and your final to get a 88% overall.

Hey Roger. Because of one assignment my grade went from a perfect A+ to an 84.61%. I can't have a A for long, because if it's even close to a B, my parents will kill me. The next assignment, a book report, is worth 100 points, and its easy to get full marks on that. I don't know what percentage of my grade that is, but if I get 100, what will my grade be?

Roger: It sounds like your A/B grade boundary isn’t 90%, like most American high schools. The answer depends on exactly how many points you’ve scored so far. Do you know that number? If not, do you have a list of all the scores you’ve received so far? And do you know how many points each of them is worth?

Roger: I’ll assume that your tests are 13% each, not altogether. In that case, you’ve completed exactly 46% of your coursework and you have 54% remaining. To get a 80% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 93.4% on your next 3 tests and your final. To get a 75% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 84.1% on your next 3 tests and your final.

Hey Roger,

I'm currently in an F in math because of of one test. I went from an a to an f. Can I even bring up my math grade with one test if my it's worth 90% of my grade? I want to come to an 80

Roger: I don’t believe that your test is worth 90% of your grade. Did you mean that you have a “Tests” category, which is altogether worth 90% of your grade? In that case, your test is only worth a small part of your tests category. It isn’t worth 90% of your grade by itself. In that case, I need to know (1) your exact overall grade, (2) how many tests you’ve taken so far (it sounds like you just finished your first test?), and (3) whether you have any empty categories in your grade, like a “Participation” category that has no score assigned to it. Also, what are the other categories in your grade? And what are you scoring in them?

Hello,

I was wondering what I need to do in order to end with a 85% with these marks that I already have.

lab 1- 71% (8.3%)
Test 1- 77% (25%)
Lab 2- (8.3%)
Test 2- (25%)
Lab 3- (8.3%)
Test 3- (25%)

Thank you!

Roger: Your current grade is a 75.5%. You’ll need to average at least a 89.75% on your remaining assignments to get an 85% overall.
