I have a 73.39 in Calc AB right now. Each regular test is 70% of our grade. My test average is a 65% In order for me to boost my grade up to a B, what do I need to get on my next regular test in order for my grade to raise to a B? So, what formula is there in order for me to see what I need on my next test to get a certain letter grade?

Roger: See my reply below.

Roger: So, I think you meant to say your regular tests were worth 70% altogether, but you said they were worth 70% each (which means you can’t have more than one, or it would be greater than 100%). To figure out what you need on your next regular test, you need to find out 1) if you have any empty categories in your grade, like a Final Exam category, 2) your current test average, 3) the number of tests you’ve taken so far. If you can answer these questions (or at least the first one), I can give you a formula to use.

Hi roger i have a class that the highest grade is a 98.5% and i have somewhere around a 94% and grades are entered weekly. There will be 11 more grades entered in so how many weeks will it take to raise my grade to 98.5% if i get a 98.5% on all of the weeks

Roger: If you current have a 94% and you keep getting an 98.5% average, it would take an infinite number of weeks to raise your grade to a 98.5% (it would never actually get there, but it would become 98.499999...). In order to get a 98.5% reasonably quickly, you need to get higher than a 98.5% (e.g. ~100%).

Roger: Sure, if you round to the nearest whole number.

I am trying to get a C in my class overall. I have a 62% so far. I have a project worth 5% and the final is worth 25%. Assuming i get 100, an A, on the project, what would i have to get on the final to get a C.?

Roger: I’ll assume a C is a 70%. Your current grade is a 64.5%, and you will need to get at least a 86.4% on your final to get a 70% overall.

Wow.

So at midterm I had a 79% and I got 0% on my summative worth 10% of my grade. What do I have to get on my exam (worth 20%) to get my grade 65

Roger: Assuming that there are no more components to your grade, you will need at least a 48.5% on your 20% exam to get a 65% overall. (Your current grade is a 69.1%.)

Hi Roger, i was hoping you could answer this for me, very important. I have a 64.5% in my Algebra 2 class. My district (sweetwater school district) has expelled D's. So they are only As Bs Cs and Fs. No more Ds. An A is 83%-100%, B is 73%-82%, and C is 62%-72%, and F is 61% and below. My final is 60% of my grade and I at lwast want to get a B-, say a 75%. Because of the difference in the grading system now, how much should i get in my final, in percentage? Thank you!

Roger: The grading system doesn’t affect how you use the calculator. Just tell the calculator that you want a 75% overall. I don’t think your final is actually worth 60% of your grade. Did you mean that your Tests category is worth 60% of your grade? It makes a big difference. If I assume that your final is actually 60%, then you will need at least a 82% on the final exam to get a 75% overall.

I have a current grade of 81.12%. I had to miss a test, so my Final exam grade will go in as that test score as well. My current exam average is 79.62 and is worth 65% of my grade, my quiz average is a 77.8 and is worth 10% of my grade, and my final exam will be worth 25% of my grade. What do i need on my final in order for it to also be added to my exam average and end up with a final grade of at least a 77 % in the class?

Roger: It depends on your current exam average and how many tests you’ve taken so far. Can you provide those?

Hello Roger!

I need to know what I should get on my final exam to achieve 77% or 80% in my final course grade.

Here is how our grading works.

2 Midterms (Each worth 15%)= total of 30%
Quizzes (Total worth 15%)
Homework (Worth 5%)
Final (Worth 50%)

What I have:

Midterm 1: got 35%
Midterm 2: got 63.50%

Quizzes (So far): 84.8%
Homework (So far): 96%
Final exam: ..Still need to do it..

Roger: Your current grade is a 64.6%. To get a 77% overall, you’ll need at least a 89.4% on your final exam. To get a 80% overall, you’ll need at least a 95.4% on your final exam.

Hi Roger,
My AP History grade is split in to three categories: classwork (50%), multiple choice final (25%), and free response final (25%).
In classwork, I have a 84.38%. There will be a couple of other small assignments, but I imagine my grade will probably stay at this number.

There are two multiple choice finals (one each quarter). One is worth 29 points. I scored a 23/29 on the first one. I have one more to take that will be worth 30 points (but I can score up to a 36/30).

There are two free response finals (one each quarter). One is worth 30 points. I scored a 21/30 on the first one. I have one more to take that will be worth 30 points (but I can sore up to a 36/30)

What do I need on each of the second quarter finals to achieve an 87.5 in the class? What do I need on them to achieve a 90 in the class?

Roger: To get a 87.5% overall, you’ll need to score at least a 106.4% (31.9/30) on the two remaining finals. To get a 90% overall, you’ll need to score at least a 116.3% (34.9/30) on the two remaining finals.

hi Roger, I have an 89.3% in my class right now and exams are worth 45% of our grade. We have two exams this trimester and I already got an 85% on one of them. Homework is worth 10% of our grade (assuming I get 22/22 on the homework). Class work is worth 5% of our grade and if I assume I get 50/50 on the class work too, what will I need to get on the 2nd exam to get a 90 in the class?

Roger: Your numbers only add up to 60%. What is the other 40% of your grade?

Hello, I want to know what I need to get on my THIRD quiz for an 80% in the class OR an 85%.

Here is how our grading is.

3 quizzes (worth 15% each) so 45% in total
Lab (worth 40%)
Participation ( worth 2.5%)
Class activities ( worth 12.5%)

I achieved:
Quiz 1: 67%
Quiz 2: 75%
Quiz 3: (Haven't done it)

Lab: (So far) 94%

Participation: 75%

Class activities (so far): 81%

Roger: You will need at least a 60.7% on your third quiz to get a 80% overall. You will need at least a 94% on your third quiz to get a 85% overall. (Your current grade is a 83.4%.)

So if I'm in a points based class that I currently have an 86.5% in, and I have about 8 weeks left until my semester report card, how hard should I work? We have anywhere from 4 to 7 tests left (all ranging from 60-120 points) as well as the final for the semester just before the end of the semester. Will I be able to get an A?

Roger: How much is your final exam worth? And how many points do you have in the class overall? You should be aiming to get a 95%+ (rough estimate) on all your remaining coursework, if you want to get at least a 90% overall.

Hi! I'm sitting with a 72% in the class with 2 more discussion boards to do and each is 5%. My prof has said we just need to get a pass overall(term work plus exam mark). Since the exam is worth 30% it can make a big difference on my final grade. What would I need on the exam to get a pass(55%)? Or a 60%?

Roger: You will need to get at least a 29.5% on the final exam to pass (55%). You will need to get at least a 42% on the final exam to get a 60% overall.

Hello Roger. I have a confusing situation in AP Calc BC, I hope that you can help me.
Our grade breaks down as such:
10% homework (I have obtained 9.91% of the homework category points)
65% tests (I have obtained 57.73% of the test category points, which is 500)
25% final.
Here is where it gets tricky. We have the option to have our final replace our lowest test score. My lowest test score is a 76/100. We have taken 5 tests (each 100 pts) and I currently have a 90 overall (my teacher cuts off the decimal), and an 88 is an A. What would I need to get on the final exam that would replace the 76% and also let me keep an 88?

I hope that wasn't too confusing, thank you!!

Tyrone.

Roger: You’ll need to get at least a 79.5% on your final exam to get a 88% (A) overall. That’s not much higher than your current overall test score! If you get a 84.8% on the final exam, your overall grade will be a 90%. If you get a 90.1% on the final exam, your overall grade will be a 92%.

I have semesters, and my required classes are 2 semesters long. At the end of a semester I got a grade, meaning I have two grades and they are each 40%. the final is worth only 20%. I totally failed in French (59.45%) and I want to know what I need to make in my second semester so I get at least a 70%.

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 77.03% on your second semester to get a 70% overall.

Exams are worth 70% . The exams consist of 4 test and 1 final. Also 30 % of my grade is homework, quizzes and workshop.
My exam grade is an average 62% but I have only taken 3 test. I still have one test and a final.
The 30 % of my garde average out to 95%. What do i need on my last test and final to make at least a 70 or 75 in the class.

Roger: Well, your current grade looks like it’s a 71.9%. I’ll assume all your tests and finals are worth the same amount. To get at least a 70% overall, you will need to average at least a 55.2% on your last test and final. To get at least a 75% overall, you will need to average at least a 73.1% on your last test and final.

#2: 63.33%
#3: 83.93%
#4: 78.08%

Can you please tell me that I need on the final (test #5) to pass with the 75%, and what I need to get an 80%?

Thank you,
Becca

Roger: You’ll need at least a 56.33% on the final to get a 75% test average. You’ll need at least a 81.33% on the final to get a 80% test average.

In my A&P class we have four exam grades and a homework grade. My overall grade is an 84% right now. I would like to get at least a 90% in the class. Is this possible with only one exam left? (Each exam is 100 pts. and the homework is 100 pts. as well.)

Roger: I assume that your 84% includes three tests and your homework grade. If so, you will need at least a 114% on the last test to get a 90% overall.
