Hi Roger. My school does high honors where kids with an overall average of 95% get an award. Currently I have a 93.3% over all average. It's the end of the year and exams are upon us and I was hoping to get high honors. I have 5 exams and I have taken 2. I got 100% on both of them and I was wondering how well I would have to do on my other exams to get an over all average of at least 95%. P.S my exams take up 20% percent of my grade per class and I have 5 classes and I exam in each class.

Roger: Is your “93.3%” an average over all 5 of your classes? Does that already include the 2 exams you’ve taken so far? In that case, I need to know what your current class average in each of your 5 classes is.

Hi roger so I have a 85% in my biology class and I just took the last test it's not the final but it's worth 40% of my grade. I got a 84% on it how much will that bring it up?

Roger: It depends on (1) how many tests you’ve taken so far, (2) your current test average, and (3) if you have any empty categories in your grade (e.g. how much is your “final exam” category worth?).

Hi Roger. My class' "A" goes from 100-85%. if I currently have a 90.36% in my class, and my final is worth 30%, what is the lowest I can get on my final and still get above an 85%? Please and thank you.

Roger: You’ll need to score at least a 72.5% on your final to get a 85.0% overall.

hi Roger. I have a 90% in my math class and my final is worth 15 percent. What do I need to get to keep an A?

Roger: You’ll need to score at least a 90% on your final exam to get a 90% overall.

If I currently have a 89% in a class and would like at least a 93% and the final grade going in the grade book is worth 20% of my grade what do I need to make on the final test to get the 93

Roger: You’ll need to score at least a 109.0% on your final exam to get a 93% overall.

Okay. So I have an 83% overall for a quarter class. I've recently bombed a test, so lets bump that down to 70-75%. Projects and tests are 60% of our grade. Everything else is 40%. I want to get at lest an 80% overall. Is that possible? If so, how good will I have to do on my last final grade (project)?

Roger: How many projects and tests have you done so far? How much are projects worth compared to tests? What’s your current score in the “projects and tests” category?

so I have a 93% in Spanish as of now and on my last 2 test grades I got an 80 & 84. tests are weighted 30% and my average is a 90%.

now my question is how much will my grade drop and what do I need on my next two tests to have a 94%

thank you and pls answer ASAP!!

Roger: It depends on how many tests you’ve taken so far. Also, do you have any empty categories in your grade? (Like a “participation” category that has no score yet.) By the way, try out the new calculator option labeled “I need something else”. It should be able to answer your question.

Hey guys,

I need some help. My final is coming up and I wanna get a grasp on what I need to score to get a B. I currently have a 75.86% and I want an 80% overall at the end of the class. I have my final to do still, which is worth 20%, but the final also replaces my lowest test grade which is a 55%. We have a total of 4 tests including the final. My test grades for the the first three were: 76%, 55%, and 75%. Thanks in advance

Roger: How much is your test category worth? Try out the new calculator option labeled “Something else”. Tell the calculator that you have 3 tests, but that your final exam also counts as a test. Then, tell the calculator that your lowest test grade is dropped.

Ok so, I have a Senior project that is worth 300 points. It counts as my grade for the semester. If i got a 95% for the first quarter and I currently have a 89% if i receive 0/300 for not presenting what would my overall grade be for the second quarter and the semester???

Roger: How many points do you have in your 2nd quarter so far?

Hey Roger, I just want to say thanks for doing what you do. This program is great, I love all the options. You must have a full time job, yet you take the time to personally answer questions for those who need help.Your work is very much appreciated and I hope good things come to your future. Thanks again!

I have a 78 in my English class and I got a 65 on my 6 weeks test and it's 20 % of my grade. What would my grade be after it's entered in?

Roger: It depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. For example, if your “78%” overall grade represents 40% of your total coursework, then your overall grade should go down to a 73.7%.

Hello Roger!

In math class we have 2 tests (30% each) and one final exam (40%).

On the first test I got 76%
On the second test I got 95%

What do I need to get on the final exam to get an A in the class? Is it possible?

Roger: Your current overall grade is a 85.5%. You’ll need to score at least a 96.8% on your final exam to raise your grade to a 90%.

In my honors math class, I currently have a 98.1 average.
I have taken two quizzes. First quiz I got a 100 and second I got a 90. Each quiz is weighted at 30% of the grade.
I have also taken two mini projects and have scored hundreds on those. They are weighted at 15% of my grade.
I have three homework grades, and have gotten hundreds on those as well. They are weighted as 5% of my grade.
I have taken 1 test, and gotten a 100 on it. Tests are weighted at 50% of my grade.
I just recently took a test, and I feel like I did poorly. In my mind, I feel as if I got around an 80. If so, what would my new grade be if I received and 80 on this test? Also, can you put how you solved this? Thank you.

Roger: Based on your individual category grades, your current grade should be a 98.5%, not a 98.1%. Anyway, your overall grade should drop by 5 percentage points. That would bring your grade down to a 93.5% (or a 93.1%, if you can explain why your current overall grade is a 98.1%). The trick to solving this is to consider what happens to your test category average after your 2nd test. Since you’ve only taken one test so far, your new test average should be the average of 100% and 80%, which is 90%. Since your test category is worth 50% of your overall grade (and you have no empty categories in your grade), a 10% drop in your test average translates to a 5% drop in your overall grade.

Hello,

I have 4 categories for my class grade weights. Assignments are worth 20%, Quizzes are worth 20%, midterm exam is worth 30%, and final exam is worth 30%. I have not yet taken the final.

My midterm exam was a 95%.
My two quizzes are 90% and 100%.
The four assignments in now are 100%, 95%, 90%, and one 0.

What is my current grade in the class right now?
Thanks!!

Roger: Your current grade is a 88.2%. You’ll need to score at least a 94.2% on your final exam to get a 90% overall.

What would be better?

90 and a 88 or 80 and 98?

Roger: They’re exactly the same (assuming your two grades are worth the same percentage of your overall grade).

Anon
Mon, 20 Mar 2017 18:10:37 GMT

So I have a class and our grades are on a 4 point scale

The first paper was 8% and I got a 3.67/4
Second essay was say 10% I got a 4/4
3rd essay 15% i got a 3.3/4
4th essay 3.8/4 worth 10%
Test 1 is 10% 2.5/4
Test 2 2/4 10%
Participation 4/4 10%
Last essay 17% 3.8/4
Final test ( haven't taken it yet)

What's the lowest that I can get on the last test in order to end up with atleast a B in the class?

Roger: I’ll assume your final test is worth 10% of your grade. Your current average should be a 3.4/4. Assuming that a B is a 3.0, you’ll need to score at least a -64.6% (e.g. -2.6/4) on your final test. Since the requirement is negative, you can score any score on your final test and get at least a 3.0 overall.

I need to make an 88 this semester in order to pass my Algebra 2 class.

My first semester broke down:
NW1 65
NW2 53
EXAM 0

SEMESTER1 52

NW3 70
NW4 ?
EXAM ?

SEMESTER2 88

My principal told me I would have to make an 88, for semester 2 in order to pass the class. I was wondering what grades would I have to make for NW4 & the EXAM in order to get an 88 in that class.

NW3 (42.5%)
NW4 (42.5%)
EXAM (15%)

Roger: You’ll need to average at least a 101.3% on your “NW4” and “EXAM” to get a 88% for your semester 2 grade. By the way, your first semester grade should be a 50.2% according to your “NW1” and “NW2” grades, assuming that they’re also each worth 42.5% of your first semester grade. Do you have more precise scores for your NW* exams?

So I have 4 exams each worth 20% of my grade, in addition to 6 labs which is another 20% of my grade. I got a 45 first exam, and so far on my labs I have got an 80 and 87, how well would I need to do on the rest of the labs, and exams to get a B in class ? Or is an A even an option ?

Roger: Your current overall grade should be a 64.25%. You’ll need to average at least a 89.2% on your remaining 3 exams and 4 labs to get an 80% overall. If you want a 90% overall, you’ll need to average at least a 102.9% on your remaining 3 exams and 4 labs.

I have a 4.0 for the past 3terms and have been busting my butt?going to be very disappointed for a low grade!!!

First midterm: 73.8%
Homework: 1) 40/20, 2) 23.8/25
The two midterms are worth 20% each. The final exam is worth 35%. Homework (total of 6 assignments) is worth 15%. Attendance gives the last 10%. What would I need on the second midterm and final to get at least a 90% in the class?

Roger: Your current homework average is a 147.6%. I’ll assume that you’ll continue to receive copious amounts of extra credit on your homework and that your homework average will stay around a 147.6%. (I’ll also assume that you’ll get 100% in attendance.) In that case, your current overall grade is a 104.2%. You’ll need to average at least a 78.4% on your 2nd midterm and final exam to get a 90% overall.

In my physics class I have a 76% at a c the final is worth 30% of my grade and my teacher said if you fail it will drop two letter grades meaning I will go to an F, is this correct. He explained that since it's 30% of my grade it will drop three times where as if it was 20% it would drop two times. I need at least a 50% because he grades at a curb which is a D- to pass so is he telling me the correct stuff?

And if my grades in this class were both 85 for the first two quarter and my midterm was 20 % of my two grades and i failed it what would my overall grade be

Roger: I’ll assume that you got a 50% on your midterm. In that case, your overall grade should drop to a 78%. This is true regardless of whether your midterm is worth 20% of grade for 1 quarter, or 20% of your grade for 2 quarters.

So i now have a 89% due to the semester test i took (which is 10% of my grade and i got a 64% on), is there anyway that a small assignment that is worth 10 points could bring my grade up to a 90 again?

Roger: What percentage of your grade is your 10 point assignment worth? And how much of your coursework have you completed so far?

Audrey
Wed, 18 Jan 2017 17:07:37 GMT

If I have a 94% in science and a project is 20% of my grade, how much do I need to get on the test to still have an A?

Roger: Project or test? The answer depends on how much of your coursework you’ve completed so far. If your project is the assignment left, then you’ll need to score at least a 74% on your project to get a 90% overall. But if you have more assignments to do (tests, other projects, etc.), then the answer will be higher.
